Octavius

Octavius Pov:     The half breed was pulled out of the pub by her human companion.  I dismissed her and her pathetic human, my concern was more on this Merrow fool who was attacking me.  Why was he defending the half breed, it was obvious she was Welkin, what did he care if I said anything to her.  The fight didn't last long before the pub owner broke us up, it was forbidden for Welkin and Merrow to fight on land according to human laws.       "You better watch your back Welkin" said another Merrow who was in the pub, I just scoffed at him, straightened my uniform and walked out.  I was here on official business, we have been receiving word that the Welkin, Merrow hybrid may be in the city.  My mission was clear, find the girl, bring her back to Nosaroc, and have her publicly executed, in the mist of her demise we will convince the humans that the Merrow were planning on using her to start a war and take over the land kingdoms.  When in reality it is us Welkin who will be taking over.  I walked down the white marble street, it was insulting that King Thorn thought he could model this chunk of rock after the glorious Kingdom of Nosaroc.  I transformed, my pure white wings spread, my talons grew, and I took flight.       The feeling of the wind in my hair and the sound of the wind, calmed my nerves.  Flying, being high above the world, made everything fall away.  I soared through the clouds, dampening my hair and wings, I emerged on the other side, greeted by the sight of Nosaroc.  The  crystal city, the crystal was made to shine and reflect the clouds and the blue of the sky.  It really was a magnificent sight to behold.  I weaved though the towering structures, making my way to the palace.  I landed at the front gates of the palace, my fellow soldiers let me in without question, I was well known, I came from a long line of strong loyal soldiers.  My father, his father, and his father before him all served as the general of the kings army.  That was all until my brother was killed, nine years ago when the hybrid was first seen, my brother was in charge of her capture.       Orlando was ten years my senior, he brought great pride to our family for being at the top of his class in the soldiers academy.  My goal was to be just like him when I got older, Orlando was tough and mean, but he was respected by everyone, I wanted that kind of respect for myself.  Growing up Orlando was my fathers favorite, and I was always seen as week for being my mothers favorite.  When I was fifteen one of the Welkin children came bursting through the clouds screaming and crying about a monster on land.  She said that the monster was half Welkin and half Merrow, she said that the creature had hair so magnificently gold in color it was almost like staring into the sun, and the only Welkin with hair like the sun, was the Queen herself.  Queen Selene the most beautiful woman in the world, who was known for her radiant hair that looked like it was made of pure gold.  We Welkin were all gifted with beautiful gold colored hair, but in comparison to the Queen our hair simply looked dull.  The kingdom was in an uproar at the news the girl had brought, could it be true, did the Queen have an affair with a Merrow?  Or was it just a coincidence that there was a hybrid that shared a similar trait with the Queen?  All of our questions were answered soon when the King locked the Queen up, away from the prying eyes of her subjects.  It was obvious that the Queen had, had an affair with a Merrow, our greatest and most sacred law was that no Welkin must ever reproduce, or have any kind of romantic interaction with a Merrow, and our Queen broke that law.  Orlando was the first man ready to go capture the hybrid, he seemed excited to do so in a way that almost scared me at the time.  As he left that night he turned to me and said,     "The Queen betrayed her own people Octavius, it is time tings change around here, if our King cannot control his wife, what is to stop the Merrow, or even the Humans from trying to seize our kingdom? It is time to show the world what us Welkin's are really capable of."  and with those last words to me he left never to return.  When word came back that Orlando had actually been killed by the human couple that took care of the hybrid, our family became the laughing stock of Nosaroc.  My father was so ashamed that he pushed me even harder to become better then my brother, so I could fix the damage he had done.      I walked through the large crystal hallways until i reached the thrown room, the large double doors swung open,     "Octavius Golding, My Lord" someone announced,  the room was practically empty aside from the kings most trusted advisor, and about fifteen guards lining the walls.  In the center of the room sat King Ulric on a silver thrown with black silk cushions.  Sitting next to the king was Prince Rush, this caught me by surprise, usually the King would arrange for the Queen to be present, so she could hear for herself, his plot to kill her bastard child.  Prince Rush looked just like his father, narrow angular features, and small shifty eyes.       "Octavius what do you have to report?" the king asked      "I have yet to find the hybrid, but some of the humans claim to have seen a girl who hides her face." I said, "I have looked into many young women that look to be around the hybrids age, all hide paertsm og their faced but none bearing both Merrow and Welkin features."  I waited for the King to speak, he looked to be deep in thought, impatient Prince Rush spoke up.     "So you have come to report nothing, you are as useless as your brother" he said, it took everything in me not to attack him.     "Rush, I allowed you to sit in on my meeting per your request, but I never said you would be allowed to speak." The King hissed, "none the less Octavius, my son is right, next time come back with the hybrid, or don't come back at all"      "Yes your majesty" I said bowing my head low,     "I would hate to see your father lose both of his sons, do not disappoint me boy" the King warned.     "Yes My Lord, I will not return unless I have apprehended they hybrid"      "Good boy," I felt like a dog being thrown scraps by his evil master, "you are dismissed." and with a wave of his long bony hand the king sent me away.  I needed to get back to land and continue my search for the hybrid as soon as possible, I flew as fast as I could through the city, and through another group of damp clouds.  My mind was so focused on my task at hand I didn't even notice the group of Merrow men waiting for me at the spot where I had taken off.
