Chapter 3

I woke gasping for air. The fear of my nightmares still haunting me as I wake. I hold my chest and try to control my breathing. Once under control, I grab my phone to check the time, 2:35 AM. I groan knowing I won't be able to sleep for at least the next hour. I slip back into my tinkerbell slippers and head out to get some water. As I enter the kitchen I'm met with a different man than Mr. Meanie. He's just as tall, if not taller, his eyes a deep brown, his hair caramel with honey blonde highlights falling just around his eyes giving him a shaggy look. My eyes traveled down from his face only to be met with the fact that he's shirtless!? I feel my face heat up as he looks up at me. "Oh so you're the little thing Kai won't stop ranting about." So that was Mr. Meanie's name. The man laughed as he took me in. His eyes traveling down to my Strawberry Shortcake shirt and fuzzy shorts, before landing on my slippers. He chuckled, "He called you a brat, but I gotta say. . . I don't see it." "Good! Cause I'm not a brat," I pout. I'm not a brat, I swear! Okay well maybe sometimes, but only because sometimes people don't deserve your good behavior. "Whatever you say." He gave me a boyish smile that showed off his dimples. My heart fluttered at the sight. Goddamn it, no stupid heart, we don't fall for strangers. "Anyways sorry to interrupt, I just came to get some water," I said as I tried to walk over to grab a glass. Before I could reach the cabinet I felt a hand on my shoulder. Instinctively I jump, spinning around, eyes wide. I watch confusion flash quickly over his eyes. I laugh, "S-sorry you startled me." I smiled hoping he wouldn't read too much into it. Lucky for me he didn't seem to notice too much. He just reached above me and grabbed me a glass and filled it up with water from the fridge. He handed me the cup and sat down at the island. "So what's your name?" He asked, breaking the silence. "Rain," I looked down, I was used to people make fun of my name, it was exactly conventional. "Rhys, but don't worry you'll be calling me something different very soon," Rhys winked at me. I stared back confused. What did he mean? What would I be calling him besides his name? Rhys smirked at my confusion, raising an eyebrow and leaning on the countertop. "Don't worry, you'll figure it out soon enough." I took a sip of my water, hoping to calm my dry throat. "Okay. . . Cryptic much?" I laugh. He shrugs, "Mystery's half the fun baby doll." I felt his eyes boring into me, like he wanted every part of my soul. I shrank against the counter, looking down at my cup, willing the ice cubes to save me somehow. "So," Rhys drawled, watching me just a little too closely, "how long have you known Kai?" I blink, "Um, since this afternoon." He lets out a low laugh, "Seriously? That's all it took to get under his skin?" He raised an eyebrow, "He normally ignores people for weeks before snapping." "I didn't mean to upset him." I grumbled. "Yeah that's what makes it f*****g hilarious." He smiled, again dimples flashing. Gosh I hated how good he looked. "So are the pigtails and bunny slippers a nightly occurrence or just for first impressions?" He smirked. I'm suddenly reminded how I'm dressed versus how he looks. My face immediately heats up and I'm sure I'm bright red. "They're Tinkerbell not bunnies," I pout looking down at my slippers. "And I didn't know I was going to be meeting another person right now." I mumbled. I look up to meet his eyes only to be met with a smirk and a look I can't quite place behind his eyes. Feeling suddenly self-conscious I make a beeline to my room not even bothering to say good night. I hear him laughing as I shut my door, I place my water on the desk and grab Mr. Moo to tell him all about what I just experienced. After making sure he was caught up, I curled up in my stuffies cocoon and awaited terror filled sleep to take me once again.
