Chapter 3

Terry’s POV….

I’m in my office for the zillionth hour when my wolf starts to get antsy. He has been getting on my nerves these last couple of nights and now I’m working with little to no sleep. I don’t know why but I feel the need to check in on Joey and Brandon when through our mind-link they connect.” “Yo! T Joey says we need you in the infirmary.” “What’s up what’s wrong?” Brandon begins “We found a female she-wolf at the boundary where our land meets the old Blood Hunters Pack. She was fighting three other wolves when we got there. she is hurt.” “A rogue?” “probably but before we can really question her, she passed out from her injuries.” “Okay, guys I’m on my way”. I mindlink my brothers..“Hey Dan, Mikey, Joey found a rogue crossing our lands it’s a she-wolf and they are taking her to the infirmary. I’m heading there now to question her and see what’s going on. Check-in on the pack warriors and make sure our borders are secured. Give mom a heads up in case I need her to talk to the girl for any female things.” “Got it! On it!” they responded simultaneously through our mind-link”. “As I shift into my wolf, he is becoming more agitated as we approach the infirmary. I shift back to my human form and enter. I can smell my Beta and Gamma as I walk towards their scent with a new purpose in mind. To question this rogue and how dare she come on my land, our land. As questions pop into my head about what mode I will direct in with this matter the most amazing scent hits my nostrils. It’s a combination of Watermelon and Cherries. As I open the door leading into the room my wolf screams in my head MATE!!! I could only stare at her while she is lying in bed. She has bandages covering her legs and right arm.  “What the Hell happened?!!!” I screamed at the two of them. In all the years of our friendship, I don’t think I ever truly used my Alpha voice on them. They just stared at me like I had ten heads. Brandon was the first to speak. “We told you T when we got there, she was about to fight with the third wolf. When the wolf smelled us there, he took off running. We went to check her out and make sure she was okay.” She passed out when we told her what territory she crossed into. Then the pack doctor enters and begins to speak to us. “Good Evening Alpha Terry, My name is Lydia and the head doctor here that treated her. She is suffering from many different wounds. She has multiple ribs fractures as well as multiple contusions and lacerations from the fight.” She is resting comfortably right now and should be awake soon. If all goes well, she should be almost fully healed by morning the next day the latest.” She bows and exits the room. “I’m having so many mixed emotions right now. At first, elation that I finally have a mate, the anger that she is hurt and she got hurt on my territory, confused as to why the Mood Goddess would select a rogue as my mate when she knows my history, and just plain exhaustion and not knowing what the heck I’m going to do about any of this!”  Joey and Brandon were having a conversation through mind-link when my two younger brothers walk hurriedly in the room. As they enter Joey and Brandon leave. Mikey speaks first” Yo you good?” “No, I answer”. “What’s up what happened Joe and Brandon said to get here fast that you needed us? Dan asked” “I look around the room to make sure that it’s just the three of us before I speak. “Meet my mate the rogue!” I say sarcastically. “Seriously!” Mikey said. “No Mikey I’m just going to pick some random chick rogue that came into our territory and say she is my mate just for s**t and giggles!!!!” I whisper yell at him.  “Okay, no need for sarcasm just making sure I heard you right.”Mikey finished. Dan said, “Well, wait a minute we don’t really know what happened she could be injured from the attack and has a story so let’s just chill out and wait for her to be awake before we go jumping to conclusions.” “If she really is a rogue she will be sentenced to death!” I said. “TJ come on man the Mood Goddess THE MOON GODDESS picked her for you as a mate dude there has to be a reason for it just chill and shut up.” Mikey said. My brothers begin to explain that they upgraded patrols to cover the borders on all sides and doubling the warriors for any sneak attacks. So, we are covered for tonight. I mind-linked our mom to come here so we can talk with her because she needs to know this. Maybe we can all figure this out since I really can’t have a clear head right now. "You have been working triple shifts for a few nights you need to rest before making any rash decisions right now!” Mikey said, “I can grab some clothes for you so you can stay the night here and stay with her” “Why would I do that?!” I asked him. He said “Grandma says that the mate bond that mates have help to heal each other.” “And…” I asked. “Well if you stay close to her to help heal her then she can heal faster and then she will be awake then we can get her story and you can get the stick out your ass finally!” He said. I’m about to reach over the girl to strangle my little brother when the door opens, and our mom comes in. “What is going on now? she pants. "What have you guys gotten yourselves into now?” She asked.  “I’m in bed nice and comfy when these two mind-links me to come here quickly." She said exasperately as she points to my brothers. "You guys know I am old and out of shape to rush anywhere. So, what’s up what wrong?” she is asking us while waving her hands in the air as she speaks when she happens to notice the girl lying in bed. She gasps and says, “It can’t be!” “Mom you know her?” Mikey asks. Mom shakily walks towards the bed and pulls the blanket down. “Boys turn around for a second”. Mikey and Dan turn but I refuse. She looks at me questioning. “Mate” is all I say. She nods and unties the robe of her gown. My breath hitches when I see her smooth skin and my wolf is growling in my head but I’m watching my mom search her body for something and when she finds it tears sting her eyes and she begins to quietly cry. I walk around the bed to where she is to look at what she found. It’s a birthmark located underneath her armpit above the rib. It looks like it is in the shape of a ¾ moon with two swords crossed over and blood drops. “What’s wrong mom?” I asked. “I think this is Alpha Baiden’s daughter Bria.” She takes a deep breath. She covers "Bria" up and turns to us.  “Boys sit we need to talk.” She was so serious that it was a little funny, but the look in her eyes held pain. My mom is a small petite woman barely standing at five feet she is the youngest daughter in her family and the shortest. When she used to yell at us as pups, we could never take her seriously until she really flipped out then her Spanish crazy side came out and we learned quickly not to mess with her. The four of us take a seat and wait for her to compose herself so she can begin. “As you guys know about our heritage and how we come from Royal blood and so forth. The three of us nod and she continues. Well, you know that we were not meant to have mates that up until your grandparents met all marriages and pacts were arranged. Again, we nod. Well, your grandpa had arranged your aunt’s pacts and had talks with Alpha Baiden’s grandfather for me to mate with Alpha Brice. The three of us gasp. We never knew this before. “I was always a rebel and gave your grandparents a run for their money. I refused to be with Alpha Brice. I ran away and Grandpa got so mad he sent me away to an all-girls academy for “my own good” lol. It was at the school I met your father. He was working at a gas station in town at the time and it was an instant connection. In a matter of seconds, I felt whole and I knew I could never ever follow through with what your grandpa wanted. Your father and I eloped. When I came back, I broke the news to your grandfather. I didn’t realize the true significance of my choice or whom it affected. I just knew I wanted to be with your father, and nothing was going to stop me. Needless to say, grandma calmed him down, but now he had to calm Alpha Brice down. I found out I was pregnant with you. Alpha Brice was furious, but he was more afraid of your grandfather than to try to start a war over it, so he went and made Barbara his Luna. They had two children. A son named Blaine and a Daughter named Bria Marie.  I thought everything had calmed down and we were all good until the night of the attack. On the night of the attack, there was fighting everywhere. From all sides, it was wolf vs wolf, human vs human. Through the mate bond, I can feel your father in pain and shifted to fight by his side. Your father was fighting Alpha Brice in the clearing where our borders meet. Your father is strong for a human and your grandfather made sure he trained with the best just in case something like this happened. When I got there, I could hear Brice arguing with your father. How I was promised to him and how your father stole me from him. I shifted back and got into the argument. I apologized to Brice and said that I thought he was happy with his family. He scoffed and said that Barbara was always second. Brice threw a punch at your father and your father had the upper hand when Alpha Brice shifted into his wolf form because he knew he was losing.  By then your grandfather got there from the other side and began to fight him in wolf form. Barbara came from behind your grandfather and stabbed him. She and I fought, and she ran away. We took your grandfather to the pack doctor and headed back to fight. When we got to their land it was decimated. Homes were burned down, bodies beheaded, We found the heads of Brice, Blaine, and Barbara. Their bodies burned in a bonfire the rogues must have started. We never found Bria’s body. I always hoped she got away somehow. Your father and I believe that Alpha Brice was working with the rogues to take us over because he knew he didn’t stand a chance against us with his pack alone. From what we knew of Bria, Alpha Brice sent her away to the same academy I had gone to and she didn’t come home until that night. When we returned home, I went to check on your grandfather your grandmother had explained that the knife had silver and that there was silver had poisoned his blood. The poison in him spread like cancer. He fought it but, in the end, it took his life.” My brothers and I listened intently as my mother told us about that night. We never heard this much of the story before. We never asked for details about that night. We just always thought that rogues attacked, and grandpa fought and took them all down before succumbing to his injuries. Mike said “Wow!” Dan just nodded and I was speechless. I couldn’t say anything. I don’t think any of could. We just silently sat there absorbing what our mom had told us. Just sitting there processing the information with so many questions that couldn’t come to mind at the time. My mom spoke again “I don’t know how she ended up here but if the Goddess chose her as your mate then it is for a reason.” “We will let her heal and tell us her side of the story. From there you can make an informed decision about what will happen next.” I just nodded at her suggestion. She got up from her chair and kissed us each on the head before heading back home. Dan was the first to break the awkward silence. “I think mom makes sense for a change. Mom talks crazy sometimes but in this she makes sense. I think you should wait for her to wake up and listen to what she has to say before any rash decisions.” Mikey then said, “Do you want me to head to your place and grab you some clothes and stuff so you can stay here?” I answered, “What is with you and me staying here the night!” He answered “grandma said that the mate bond is powerful. Mates can help each other heal. They balance each other. So, are you staying or going?” “Since when do you listen to grandma? I always listen to grandma you guys never listen to grandma. I, on the other hand, listen to her and pay attention to when she speaks which is why I’m her favorite. So, I’ll head to your house and grab you something and I’ll have someone bring you a cot or something to sleep in for the night.  I mind-linked some pack warriors to guard her room while you guys are here. We don’t know if those rogues were just a random attack or they are here to finish what they started two years ago". I nodded in agreement. Until Bria woke up and told us her side, we couldn’t trust anyone or anything right now. Dan went out and found someone that brought a cot into the room. They both laughed at me as my feet dangled off the end of the cot. Being six feet four didn’t help with being comfortable. After I got settled, they left to go do their thing and make sure things were settles. Mikey said he will be back in the morning with my things and check on us. As I laid down on the cot trying to get comfortable and alone with my thoughts. I glance at the girl laying in her bed she seems to be having some sort of nightmare. Her eyes are twitching beneath her eyelids. I see her mouth move as if she is speaking with someone in her sleep. I don’t know why but I reach for her hand and squeeze. She instantly calms and smiles. My wolf finally speaks “Mate isn’t here to hurt us she needs us and we need her” I know but I need to hear her story. I just can’t trust yet just not yet! He doesn’t say anything else and I finally drifted off to sleep…
