Chapter 9
We went back into our rooms and let Queen Valerie and Kyle enjoy their time.Damon then pulled me to the corner and he looked unusually serious. His body was tensed and he said, “Sofie, It’s time we go to the last faction, Daemonium.”
I agreed and we said our final goodbyes to the new couple and they thanked us and we left.
We reached Daemonium and it looked dreadful. There were sick people everywhere and kids roaming around in rags without their parents. Tears swelled up in my eyes looking at the condition these people were in. I turned to Damon but he was gone. I noticed that the sun was setting. I guess this could be the reason why he had disappeared. Suddenly a boy came towards me and and grabbed my hand but I pulled back. He was crying and he said in between tears “Please help. My mother she’s, I don't know but please!” I didn't want to make the same mistake as last time with the boy but I decided to follow my instincts.
I reached their small hut and there I saw a lady lying limply on the thin mattress. I went towards her and placed my head on her forehead.
It was burning. I quickly grabbed water from my bag and made her drink it. I also decided to make some soup for her with the things in my magical bag and also got some medicine. “Is my mom going to be okay?” I held the boy’s hand and said yes. He then handed me a mattress to lay on as I said I would watch over his mother. “Why is your kingdom like this?”
The boy looked sad and replied “We used to be happy before, poor but happy, the king was a great ruler but the ministers corrupted him, made him believe things that weren’t right. My father, he was the town mayor. He didn't agree with the methods of the ministers so he rebelled and in the end they killed him, we barely have food, no clean water now that my father is gone and because he rebelled this town and its people weren’t citizens of Daemonium anymore but our town isn't the only one, there's hundreds like us. We don't get any supplies no food or water, nobody comes to our town.
The taxes are more than we can pay and it all goes into the pockets of the ministers.” My blood started to boil, who was this delusional king?! I looked at the boy filled with determination. I was ready. I wanted to help them.
It was about 18:30. I know I was supposed to wait for Damon but I believed I could do it on my own.
I gave the boy the medicine and told him I would make it better. I promised.
I sat on the bullock cart which was heading towards the castle and I decided to take a short nap.
~A few hours later~
I woke after my nap and saw us reaching the castle. It was darker than any I had seen before. I could barely notice the difference between it and the dark sky. Thick mist shrouded it and suddenly I got goosebumps. I had a weird feeling about this.
We finally reached in front of the castle but they didn't let just anyone in. So I decide to disguise myself as an entertainer and try to fit in the group of the other entertainers. I changed into something more bright and colorful, and hoped the guards wouldn't see through me. I walked towards the guards and they stopped me. “You are?”
I stuttered “Well… I am.. You know”
The guards then looked skeptical and replied
“You are?”
I took a deep breath and replied to them “ I am a dancer”
Thankfully they let me in.
I quickly run to the other group of performers and try to blend in.
The hallways of this castle gave out a much darker vibe. There were ghastly paintings hung across but one caught my attention. It was a gigantic painting of a family but one side of it was covered. I looked at the man on the right side and his eyes caught my attention. They looked like familiar pair of hazel eyes that I loved. I paused to look at it but then saw that the group was far ahead and ran to them.
We then stood before the courtroom and the doors opened.
I turned my head to the right and saw disgusting fat ministers, drinking wine and eating chicken with dancers surrounding them. It was same with my left side. I then looked at the throne.
There I saw something that caused my heart to crush into pieces, I saw a black throne with 2 dancers around it and tears trickled down my face. Damon sat on the throne, he wore a black suit and his eyes were red. He stared right through me with a fierce look and smirked.
My legs grew weak and I collapsed.
“That very first day that we met
It's a feeling I'll never forget.
All the experiences that we've shared,
I knew right away that you were rare.
You see, it's hard to find someone like you,
Usually, they're too good to be true.
Though I should've entered with more ration,
With you I felt so much passion.
I wish those things had never happened.
It feels as though my love's been abandoned.
All I wanted was to make you happy,
So why is it that I have to feel so crappy?
I want nothing more than for us to move on,
But it's so hard now that the trust is gone.
I want to get past this, I really do...
What can I do to make you be true?
My love for you is like an undying flame.
And I once wished for our love to remain.
Do you remember that day, the day that it snowed?
It's the day that I wished for our love to grow.
You hurt me that night, you need to know that you did.
And I need you to know that I can forgive.
But I'm really struggling with trying to forget,
Because I still feel the same as that first day we met.”
