Cop POV
I woke up with a start and realized I had stayed much longer then I had wished to with Briana, so I picked myself up off the chair and headed to the door. Once at the door I looked back just to be sure that I didn’t miss anything, then I whispered, “Wake up soon girl.”
I left the hospital and on the way home picked up some food for my family to eat. “How is that poor young girl?” my aunt Nellie asked me as soon as I got home.
I frown as I say, “she is still asleep. I know she will wake up but the doctors are losing hope. Although something seemed different when I left today.”
“Maybe after dinner I will go visit her. It has been a while since I have been to visit her.”
“I’m sure she would appreciate another visitor besides me all the time.”
“It’s settled then I will go after dinner. Girls to the table.”
We settled down to eat and afterwards I helped my aunt with the dishes so she could head to the hospital. I got the girls settled into bed once again wishing that my wife was here and that the mugger had been caught, but no one saw anything or knew what he looked like.
Aunt POV
I had just gotten to the floor the girls room as on when I see a nurse with some paper and pencils going into her room. I wonder who is visiting her, from what my nephew said he is the only one who does. As I get closer I overhear a conversation.
“Here are the drawing supplies you asked for dear. It’s such a shame, that young man left before we could tell him the good news.”
“Yes it is. I just need to get this image from my mind on paper.”
“I will leave you to it my dear.”
I peek around the door and see the young lady drawing quickly on the paper. I’m mesmerized by the speed in which she is drawing. I start to walk forward to see what she is drawing. As soon as I see the face on the paper I can’t help but say, “ Oh my!”
The girls head pops up and looks at me. “Who are you?” she asked slightly confused.
“The cop is my nephew,” I mumble still staring at the image. “Please keep drawing.”
I watch as she draws a scene next of my nephew’s wife curled around her belly protecting her baby. The next picture has me on the phone with the police department. “Send someone to room 625 at the hospital immediately, this is Officer Scott’s aunt. Please hurry and do NOT tell my nephew.”
“What is wrong?” the girl asked with a frightened look on her face. “Did I do something wrong?”
“Oh No! My child but you might have just cracked a case wide open.”
“A case?” more confusion was written all over her face as she frowns. I point to the pictures she had drawn. “But they are just dream images from while I was asleep I just felt like they were important.”
“They my be dream images to you my dear but to my family they mean the end to an almost 2 year mystery. This woman was my nephew’s wife. The baby she is protecting is his daughter.”
“So I really heard his may his wife died? Is this what they look like?” She asked as she quickly drew a scratch of the girls. I could only nod with tears in my eyes, her next statement shocked me. “ I have dreamed of this family for years. They were my escape from my real life family. Now I know why I felt drawn to him.”
