Heading Home

485 Words
The Girl POV   It’s been a week or so since I woke up and the doctors say I can go home today.  Aunt Nellie, as she insists I call her, will be picking me up soon.  I don’t know what will be expected of me in my new home but it has to be better then my past. This is my chance to make my life how I want it to be and I won’t let anyone take it from me.    My plan is to finish my education and then figure things out from there.  Hopefully I can be the woman in my dreams and have that family I want.  The Officer, Scott as he also insisted on being called, has continued to be nice to me.  I will one day repay his kindness for everything he has done for me.       When Aunt Nellie comes to pick me up, I’m surprised to see Scott’s children with her.  I give her a confused look, which she notices but shakes her head.  I get the idea that she will explain later.  She brought new clothes with her for me to wear.  When I go to the bathroom to change my clothes I see that in the bag is several options in things to wear.  I try the jeans and the leggings on and decide to go with the jeans, because I feel more protected in them.  I try on the different shirts and go with a t-shirt and an oversized hoody.  Once ready the nurse pushes me out of the building to head to Aunt Nellie’s car.    As we are driving to Scott’s house, where she is staying, I notice a beach.  “Can we stop at the beach for a few minutes?”  The children chime in also about wanting to play on the beach.  Aunt Nellie finds a parking spot and has us take off our shoes.  I walk along the edge of the water, with the legs of my pants rolled up to keep them dry.  I pick up shells as I go and slip them into my pocket.  Lost in my own thoughts I don’t realize how much time has past, I look up and discover that the sun is setting as I am heading back towards where Aunt Nellie and the girls are.   “I’m so sorry!  I didn’t realize it was getting so late.  Scott must be worried about us,” I exclaim in a worried voice.   “Don’t worry, my dear, I called him to let him know where we are and that we aren’t far from the house.”  We head back to the car and finish the drive to the house.  I help the girls with their baths and get them into dry clothes.
