Raini’s(P.O.V.)
Stepping out into the dawn, I knew today was a big day. Father would be back
soon. He had left this morning to see the neighboring pack. Today was the
day papa had arranged for a potential match. Jake, he is the Alpha’s only son.
Having grown up together it was not all that uncomfortable. Jake was very
handsome, apart from being a childhood friend, and me having a crush on him
for the longest, still did not help the fact that he has been with almost every
girl he has come across. Not only that but he is overly cocky, and thinks of
himself as the god's gift to women.
Pulling my hair up I decided to go find my sister. Probably at the beach looking
for shells. An quizzical feeling was surrounding me today and I wanted to
speak to her. I was not sure how to go about the events of the day. I had
several emotions raging inside of me.
Stormi was in a low pool of water picking up shells just as I had suspected. As
if she was able to sense me, she stood up and turned towards me just as I
met the edge of the water and land. Raini, "What has brought you down to the
beach today little sister?" She asked while moving out of the tide pool.
Shrugging my shoulders, I did not want to tell her my worries. "Just wanted to
give you company." I spoke.
The look on her face shows that she knows me better. Being the last two of
the girls left in our family of twelve siblings we have always been close but
now have become almost as one. Moving back to where the waves barely
reached, I sat down and began playing in the sand. “Does this have to do with
today’s events?" Stormi asked.
"I know you as I know myself, I see the worry on your face. You can be sure it
will go the way you want it to.”
"This is not what worried me. I am the last of our sisters to be matched. My
intuition told me this would be happening very soon and I am not sure I am
ready.” I wasn't worried per say, just had a feeling that today would only prove
my notions of Jake being my mate. I started to feel the pull when we were
younger and would see each other. I thought it was just do to us being close. As we grew older the feelings and the pull began to become more prominent. That is for me atleast.
The last time I saw him was when I was sixteen and he was seventeen. He
had gone to his uncle’s pack to conclude his Alpha training, so he would be
able to take over once his father stepped down when he turned twenty-one.
"More of wishing there could be a way to see if my suspicions are verified
before I go through with this .Jake has been very promiscuous. What if we are
mates? I am not sure he even wants a mate. He always said he did not want
to be mated.” I continue. "I just have the feeling he is going to reject me. In
turn ruining our friendship." I told her.
She just sat down next to me.
"Raini," Stormi was looking out into the ocean as she said this. "Have you
spoken to momma and papa about how you feel?" I shook my head not
wanting to answer aloud. The truth was I was too ashamed to. I felt like it
would put my father in a harder position than what he is in now, a broken
friendship is better than not having an alliance with another pack. "I have
already said I will hold my head up high and do my duty to our pack. So, what
can be done?" I asked, looking straight at her.
My sister sighed, "Ok, but you need to say something. I listen to her every
word. Should I really talk to them?
Questions only began to swarm my mind further. Stormi continued.
"Speak to papa when he gets back, he will listen, and he will give you, his
advice." I decided to let the conversation seep in. I will at least try to tell my
parents how I feel. That is a promise to myself.
I knew papa would be back soon and so did Stormi so we both stood up. She
offered me her hand so we could walk back up to the pack hut together. "It will
be ok." She said while lacing her fingers in mine.
walking the path we had created from years of taking the same route to the
beach. We did not talk the rest of the trip. Arriving at the edge of the grounds
enjoying all that we shared unspoken. Once we got back, we could tell papa
was on his way home due to all the activity. Aiden had arrived. Stormi had not
noticed this yet as she walked with her head down. I stopped suddenly
causing her arm to jerk her to a stop as well. This made her lift her head to
look at me. Smiling at her, I looked over to the main hut. She followed my gaze with her eyes and saw her husband in mid conversation with our mother. She
lit up into a brighter smile, let go of my hand and began to run to her husband.
This made me happy for her.
My mother heard all the commotion and looked at us, prompting Aiden to see
and prepare himself for the impact of his wife. He looked at her with utter
adoration. I couldn't wait to have that in my life. At the age of nineteen I was
ready to find that for myself. As Aiden and Stormi entered their own world in
each other's arms, I turned to my mother who had arms open waiting for me.
"My little one," she said. "Papa will be here soon, come we must prepare you;
much is needed to be discussed." I glanced over at my sister to see her
looking at me. The look on her face shows me that I must take this time to
speak to mama, so I shake my head and follow my mother inside.
Once inside I noticed the busy work of the women. Had I been gone that long.
Perhaps. Nothing was for me to do anyways so it will be fine I thought to
myself. My mother began to speak, "What is in your head" I began to play with
the strings on my dress as a distraction unraveling them a little at a time. “A
Lot Mama", I answered. "Will you be mad at me if I tell you some doubts I
have?" I knew as soon as I said that I became afraid of her answer. I
cautiously looked up at her. The look she gave me was a stern one but not of
trouble, only that of amusement.
" Little one, now I know why you disappeared so suddenly this morning, and
should have known it was to see your sister on the beach. She could never
deny you anything you asked of her." She laughed. " But no, I would not be
mad nor worried of any potential outfall." As she is saying all of this I start to
wonder more about my father and what he would say.
Mamma must have been able to read my thoughts on my face because she
was quick to respond. " It is not what you are thinking, Raini. He is very
understanding. You will talk to him for yourself when he arrives." As mama
finished her sentence, she began to gather what was needed to make myself
presentable.
We began going through clothes and jewelry. I decided on a simple electric blue sun dress and flats.. My
necklace was made of shells with one pearl in the middle.
