CHAPTER ONE
"Why is everyone so stupid." I thought as I tucked my long, red hair behind my ears. A bad habit Mother frowned upon. Even though my thought was more of a statement than a question my best friend, Leo, answered telepathically; "Because, your Highness, you haven't told them WHAT to think yet." He grinned as he looked across the ballroom at me in my green, jewl encrusted gown. That was drawing additional attention to me. It was a ivory, creamy green color. The corset had tiny blue sapphires sewn into it with flowy tulle sleeves that exposed my shoulders. I locked eyes with Leo, squinted at him slightly to show my annoyance with his intrusion and told him to shut up. Cutting off the mind connection that we shared together - temporarily of course. Sadly tonight was not one of the nights that Leo be intruding on my thoughts or saying things to make me laugh. Which would happen at the worst possible time of course. In the last couple hundred years of our friendship we've almost been caught communicating telepathically. It's a big no-no. Especially between a male and female. It is also becoming less comnon as the years go on and is considered to be dying out. "Grace! Child, I swear to - are you even listening? Grace!" Mother shouted in my ear and snapping her jewled fingers in my face. Her bracelets jingling away annoyingly. "Yes, Mother. As always, I am here." I replied cooly with a slight smile. Mother stiffened and straightened up a bit more. Smoothing out her own gown made of velvet; that was a deep, blood red color. She wouldn't make a scene or chastise me in front of people. She'd wait and it'd be horrible. "Hmmm. King Everner has requested that you meet him at 3 AM tomorrow. In the Glasshouse, specifically." a cool toned reply generally means something not good. I opened my mouth to protest but Emilia, my sister, sequeled at the mer mention of King Everner. Stupid name by the way. his first name is Elijah. Older than most and only younger than a few. He was a quiet, slender, raven haired vampire who led our flock of 500. We didn't see him much. Outside of random events. Leo was still looking at me; trying to work past my block. I smirked. He was very tall, dimples and hair the color of sunshine. Which looked stunning against his deep olive skin. Eyes a shocking green. I shook my head at the images that started to form in my mind anytime I thought about him. "I am not sure why he's requesting to see me at such a odd hour?" quizzically I replied to Mother after Emilia calmed down, who huffed and puffed like the big baf wolf. "Really, Grace. Sometimes you're truly unbearable to be around as you act so dumb or clueless." Mother spun on her heel and walked away. Ending the conversation. Emilia followed quickly behind her. Giving me a slight fown. Which I knew meant she'd talk to our Mother and find out the details. Emilia was her favorite after all. Mostly because she was obedient. Generally, I know what she's saying and attempt to really draw it out to irritate her. Other times I haven't the slightest idea and get dealt this wonderful personality and version of Mother - although she doesn't have many decent personalities this one is sadly the best. My own fault I guess. I just continue on and roll my eyes. Slowly walking around the ballroom. "Hi." Leo finally broke my mind block. He's getting quicker. I smiled slightly. "Hello, Leonardo." "Ew, gross. Never call me that." "Fat chance." "Mother says Elijah wants to see me." "Elijah Everner?" He sounded more concerned than surprised. "Who else do we know named Elijah?" "Maybe, I was hoping it wasn't him." "Huh? Why?" "Never you mind, friend." Leo broke and blocked the connection. "What the hell?" He has never done that. Always me. He has never shut me out of his mind, our connection. Something is up. I turned around and Leo was leaving out into the gardens. I picked up my dress slightly and started walking, quickly towards his direction. Hopefully I didn't drawn too much attention to myself. "Damn this long ass dress!"
