The Encounter

It was at first a peaceful morning for those staying at the station. Everyone was up packing up as Officer CJ and his junior officers emptied the gun shelves and loaded them in the patrol cars. All the service weapons and tear gas were loaded up and nothing was left out. Some of the patients from the hospitals are now recovering while some have already responded to treatment. As they were making their way outside, some thugs stood outside the defense wall staring at them. One of the thugs echoed, “Hey Cops, what are you up to? Is there no one to arrest?” The other thugs burst into laughter. As the thugs continued mocking them, “We need some cars as you can see, we are here to get yours,” one of them said. Officer CJ signaled his men to take everyone into the station as he moves two steps closer towards the defense wall and said, “Look, man, the city is messed up and shitting everyone up. But you can’t come here asking for vehicles.” One of the thugs cuts in, “Hold on, we are not asking we are demanding.” The other officers are now coming out from the station with some men who have been with them to join CJ.  As the debate between officer CJ and the thugs changed to a serious threat, one of the thugs fired a shot at CJ. Hastily, officer CJ and the rest took cover. The rest of them inside the station became scared. As the shot has been fired, other thugs started shooting at officer CJ and his crew. The shooting continued but they were not getting clear shots at the people they were shooting. At this time the shootings were now attracting some deadies. “Should we return fire?" one of the junior officers asked CJ. “Don’t shoot until you get a clear shot,” Officer CJ replied. Lots of bullets have been released and no clear shots yet. From where the thugs were standing a scream was heard; as soon as the scream was heard the shooting stopped. One of the thugs has been bitten by the dead. The attention of the thugs turned towards the deadies as they try to get away, they were already surrounded by the deadies. Officer CJ leaned on one of the defense cars to check what was going on. “Oh s**t!” Officer CJ exclaimed. “What is happening?” one of the men asked. “The deadies,” Officer CJ replied. The thugs are fighting their way through to avoid being bitten by the deadies. But they ran out of bullets. By then few of them have been bitten. As they try to get rid of the deadies around, screaming draws the attention of more deadies. The thugs fought the deadies by hitting them with their guns. “What should we do?” one of the junior officers asked. “I don’t know” Officer CJ replied. People who were taken inside the station to avoid violence, starting coming out. The thugs are losing their strength as they cried out, “Help! Help!” Their voice began to fade in. A doctor who is still with officer CJ said, “We can’t just watch them. Do something please.” A man quickly replied, “Now you want to help those who have been shooting at us.” As CJ wanted to jump outside the defense wall, his junior officers held him down. “What are you trying to do?” One of the officers asked. “Let go of me” CJ ordered. “No sir, you will draw the attention of the deadies to us,” the officer said. From the struggle between officer CJ and his men, some deadies noticed their presence as they started teetering to the defense wall. At that time, those who have been standing to watch the scenario crouched and one of them whispered, “Be quiet.” They became calm but for those outside, they have been torn apart. Only two of the thugs were able to escape into a building at the next block. Others were bitten and torn apart. Some deadies are still feeding on the thugs they have devoured while others walk staggered looking for new prey. “How do we get out of here?” one of the men whispered. “We need to distract them to be able to drive through,” officer CJ replied. “How?” One of the junior officers asked with curiosity. “Just follow my lead,” officer CJ replied. They crawled to the side fence and scaled the fence. From that angle, Officer CJ and his junior officer fired shots in the air. The deadies followed the sound of the shots shambling. This they continued doing until they ran out of bullets. They followed the other block and returned to the station. He quickly asked everyone to get in the car. Officer CJ went back to the station making sure no one will be left behind; as he steps out and shuts the entrance door of the station. He entered his patrol car leading others as they make their way to the Atlas Lab. Mr. White has been making plans to visit the Atlas Lab as he vowed. In Base 9, where he has established a new lab. A report was brought to him that the case of the deadies is now been recorded in the neighboring cities. He was surprised that he has not been contacted by those who contracted him in handling the case. Nevertheless, he has not forgotten about Jamison. He has selected the best of his assigned soldiers who are now waiting for his orders. One of his scientists has been held in custody by his soldiers. The scientist has been tortured and threatened to be used as a lab rat for not carrying out the specific instructions. She was the scientist who rescued Mr. White back then at the checking point. After going through Mr. White’s files, she found out the secret behind the birth of the deadies and since then she has been relenting to carry out the task assigned to her. Mr. White walks into the holding room and approached her; he grabbed her hair and whispered into her ear, “Who else saw the file?” The scientist kept quiet. “I am not asking a rhetorical question,” Mr. White yelled. “Who saw the files besides you?” Mr. White asked for the second time. At this time the scientist spat at him and said, “You piece of s**t, why don’t you go ask your momma?” At this saying, Mr. White was angered and he ordered one of the soldiers to keep her in cold water until he says stop. Still, on their way to Atlas Lab, one of the vehicles ran out of gas. Officer CJ reversed to check why the other vehicle has stopped. As he approached, it was the vehicle carrying the kids from the children's ward and their nurses. “What’s the matter?” officer CJ asked the officer driving the vehicle. “We ran out of gas,” he replied.” “Oh s**t!” Officer CJ exclaimed. “You know any gas station around?” The junior officer asked. “No. Let me get a map from my dashboard, CJ replied.” As he walks to his patrol car, others parked their cars and they were heading towards them. Officer CJ grabbed the map and spread it on the bonnet of his patrol car. One of the men riding with him came out and both searched the map to see if there is any gas station around. “What is going on?” one of the doctors asked. “We need gas,” the man riding with CJ replied. The rest who were in the other vehicles began to murmur.  As they continued, officer CJ angrily asked, “What is wrong with you guys?” One of them replied, “It is too risky standing out here.” “Then get back to the car," CJ ordered. “Look,” the man riding with CJ said as he points to the map. “The gas station is some minutes away from here,” he added. “Like how many minutes?” CJ asked. “20 minutes,” the man replied. The rest are becoming troubled with the situation and are not comfortable anymore waiting. CJ has asked them to return to their car but none complied. They continued murmuring as they overheard the man riding with CJ said, “20 minutes.” “Listen, guys,” CJ said as he called their attention. “You all should return to your car and stay calm,” CJ added. “We can’t draw unnecessary attention,” CJ continued, “I will go and get some gas because we can’t leave anyone behind.” One of the men cuts in angrily saying, “Then let them join others in their car.” “No room for them. I will be back in 40.” CJ replied as he instructed his officers to keep everyone calm and make sure they did not attract the attention of the deadies. He drove off with the man who has been riding with him. They headed to the gas station. At the Atlas Lab, everyone has been waiting for their arrival and they became worried. No way to reach them. Jamison asked Dr. McQueen to radio them with the lab’s radio signal but this time he declined. “Do you know how many that will listen to it?” He asked Jamison. “We can’t squat more people and we need to squat those who we can trust,” Dr. McQueen added. “Yea, I guess you are the right Boss” Jamison replied. As Jamison wants to walk out, Dr. McQueen said, “Son, I have noticed you are getting closer with Kay.” Jamison smiled and asked, “How do you know that?” “I see the way you look at her,” Dr. McQueen answered. As Jamison wants to continue the conversation, Kay walked in. “Greetings Doc,” she greeted Dr. McQueen as she walks next to Jamison. “Greetings dear,” Dr. McQueen replied. Dr. McQueen excused himself. “Hey love, have been waiting for you at the canteen, we are supposed to eat breakfast together,” Kay said. “Forgive me, my love, I was occupied with research,” Jamison apologies and held her hand and asked, “I hope it’s not late for us to eat together now?” “On one condition,” Kay replied. “Name it my dear,” Jamison said. “You will get to feed me,” Kay gently requested wearing a smile. “Sure, I will,” Jamison said as they both headed to the canteen. Finally, CJ with the man has reached the gas station. “Quick, let’s fill the tank and get some for the rest,” CJ said. The man hurried and opened the trunk and to fill the gallons. As he was doing that CJ moves around to secure the area. He moved into the shop at the gas station, it has been cleared. No supplies left. And as he observes he saw footprints and they were new prints. He hurried back to where the man was getting the gas. The man was already in danger as a man has grabbed him behind and holding him hostage. “Let him go,” CJ said. Quickly he pulled out his pistol pointing it at the man. “Nope, you let us go,” the man said. “Us?” CJ surprisingly asked. Before he could get a reply someone hit him from behind. He fell to his knees, a pregnant lady grabbed his gun and pointed it at him. “Get up!” she said. “You can’t be doing this,” CJ said as he stood up. “Cop, if you want to walk out here alive, do as I say,” the pregnant lady said as she ordered CJ and the man riding with him to enter the mini shop at the gas station. CJ complied. They were locked inside the mini shop. The man holding CJ’s partner hostage asked the pregnant lady to go get the van behind the gas station as he takes the patrol car. “Hurry let’s get out of here,” the man said as he entered the patrol car and zoomed off with the pregnant lady who drives the van. Inside the mini shop, CJ exclaimed, “s**t!” as he hits his hand on the shelves.
