36 The dark cobbled streets were slick with rain, shining in the yellow light of the overhanging street lanterns. Four rough looking men and a couple of ragged women slunk along the shadows of the street, deviating around the circles of light cast by the lanterns. They had sought shelter in a tavern while the rain pelted down outside but only when the last of the customers had bid their farewells to the landlord, had the group of six risen from their table in the corner and nodding their thanks, headed out into the street. As they reached a crossroads, the stocky swaggering man in the lead, his thinning grey hair pulled back into a straggly ponytail, peered down the darkened street to his left and stopped, looking for a house on the corner with an orange door.
