Chapter 1: The Night That Changed Everything
The city never slept.
It breathed through neon lights, moving cars, and strangers who passed each other without knowing they might change someone’s life forever.
Alina Reyes hated the city at night.
It reminded her of everything she lost.
She tightened her grip on the strap of her bag as she stepped out of the convenience store, the cold wind brushing against her skin.
Her shift had ended later than usual, and the streets were now nearly empty except for the occasional passing car and flickering streetlights.
Her feet ached from standing for ten hours straight.
Her mind was worse.
Bills.
Rent.
Her mother’s medication.
Every step she took felt heavier than the last, but stopping was never an option.
Not when she had no one else to rely on.
As she reached the sidewalk, she noticed a black luxury car parked across the street — sleek, polished, and completely out of place in her part of town.
People like her didn’t belong near cars like that.
And people who owned them definitely didn’t belong here.
She looked away and continued walking.
Until she heard it.
A loud crash.
Tires screeching.
A sharp sound of metal hitting metal echoed through the silent street.
Alina turned around instinctively.
Her eyes widened.
A motorcycle had lost control and slammed into the side of the black car.
The rider rolled across the pavement, motionless.
For a moment, everything went still.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
Then the car door opened.
A tall man stepped out — his presence calm despite the chaos surrounding him.
He didn’t panic.
He didn’t shout.
He simply walked toward the fallen rider with a composure that made Alina’s chest tighten for reasons she couldn’t explain.
Their eyes met for the first time.
And somehow, she knew —
Her life would never be the same again.
