Callie was holding a cup of coffee in both hands as she looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows in Mark’s office. Her hands had been cold since the day before, and she hoped it would help warm them as she looked for Jimmy and her daughter on the slopes. Mark had been needed to attend to something at the front desk, which gave her the perfect opportunity to check on Maya. As she gazed out the window, she thought about how many times she had done that. Mark’s father had always welcomed her and Jimmy into the lodge and treated them as his children when they were there.
