CHAPTER 9
Leona is working hard these days. It’s been two weeks from the incident with Vivian and she really tries to avoid her.
Today she is gonna announce that she will lead the expedition to the south, something that she is afraid they won’t like.
The Grandmaster is absent for some classes, having other Masters do it. It seems there are matters that he has to attend no matter what.
“This will be our lesson for today,” the Master says and leaves.
The boys start leaving but Leona stops them.
“I need to tell you something so don’t go.” They all wait there for her to continue.
“What happened Leon?” Josh asks.
“The south is in trouble. It seems that some dark forces have taken over some of the lands there. We aren’t sure what it is, but we will be sent to find out. We got several complaints from the villages there and everytime we sent a soldier, he never made it back. So now, this becomes a matter for the Dragons and our first task.”
The boys are excited as they finally gonna use their abilities and newly found skills.
“That’s amazing Leon! How did you learn all this?” Noah asks.
“Well, I was assigned as the leader of our group.”
Everyone is just staring and not making a sound. They don't like the idea as every one of them thinks he is better for the job.
“Wait, that is a joke, right? Who in the right mind would put YOU in charge?” Val never fails to intimidate Leona.
“It was me that I picked him,” a voice comes from behind them. Val turns white as he sees the prince passing. They all bow, and Val’s sweat can be seen from across the field.
“Prince, I didn’t know it was you” he tries to cover it.
“Save it. I think Leon is better on taking that responsibility. We worked on a plan that he will go over with you and tomorrow, you will be send to the south with our airship. Now, I won’t be able to come too since some urgent matters need my attention. Follow Leon’s plan and command. We went over this together. Undermining him will mean you undermine me. Understood?.”
Unanimously, they agreed. Who says no to the prince.
“Go on Leon. I have to attend a meeting,” and like that, he leaves.
“Alright so the plan is to investigate first, so we will have to blend in..” Leona started going over the plan.
Ren is walking across the yard and makes it to the palace. There, his father is waiting for all the members to arrive.
“You made it,” he comments.
“Yes father.”
“I learned that you came up with a plan for the south. That is good to hear.”
“Thank you. But if it weren’t for Leon I wouldn’t make it.” His father gives it a thought as he doesn’t see much on Leona.
“What’s with this boy? I have seen better warriors on his group. Why him?” he is curious.
“I just feel it. I obviously examined his abilities. They are promising, ask the Grandmaster. But you know, it’s more of a feeling. I have this sense that tells me that him and I are gonna work great and that I should trust him, you know.”
His father knows that sometimes the Emperor would find a warrior that he would communicate better and could trust everything. For him, that was Grandmaster Wu.
“I trust your instinct then.”
The group disperses and Leona is walking down the hall to get to her room.
“Hey” Josh catches up.
“Oh hey” she responds.
“I believe you will do great you know,” he comforts her.
“Thanks. I think you are the only one believing that.”
“No, trust me. More people respect you. It’s just they don’t have the balls to tell you so.”
Leona laughs at his comment.
‘Maybe he is right.’ she thinks.
“Thank you man,” and she gives him a fist bump.
She is back to her room, relaxing.
Everything that she needs is packed by Xialing and she just needs a good night's sleep.
“Everywhere is full of blood. Limbs and heads spread around the field. People are screaming and crying from the horror they’ve just witnessed. Leona is standing there with b****y hands. She doesn’t know what to do, she just stands there. She breathes heavy and her head is spinning. She drags a body, a body of a fellow Dragon.
‘He is dead’ a deep voice says. She doesn’t want to look back and continues dragging him.
‘Look at me’ he commands, and she can’t help but to do so. She sees a man with eyes red and vibrant. It feels like she is staring directly to hell.
‘Now, you are gonna die’ and his hand is reaching for her.”
“NO!” she screams and opens her eyes. She is covered in sweat and is unable to process what just happened.
‘This is a bad dream, and nothing more.’ she tries to convince herself.
Well, is it just a bad dream?
