Prologue
She looked into his eyes as his palms held his body above her. One palm on either side of her face, his muscular arms blocking her sight almost forcing her to stare back into his beautiful light brown eyes. She slowly moved her hands to his bare chest, letting her fingertips ghost over the rock hard muscles. He was beautiful and many of her people had expressed that admiration. "Velorina... Speak to me. Tell me how much you love me." His deep voice finally broke the dreadful silence, but the Queen couldn't bare to play a heartbreaking game as she knew how it would end. "Alaric, tell me what you wished to speak to me about. I am not a stupid child. I am more than aware that you risked coming here for a reason." Her words cut harshly, ending the game before it even got started. A swift and calculated movement put Velorina on top of Alaric, she was now straddling him while desperately trying to keep his full attention. She heard him sigh, a very annoyed and tired sigh. "Velorina.. Give up the war." Four words managed to smack the young Queen in her face, four words made her want to kick him out then send someone to finish him off. "Our life would be so much easier if you would give up the war and stay underneath me. We both know that you live to be under me, the war made it possible. Now it's time to put an end to it." Velorina sat up straight as her hands traced over her thighs to her hips. She let one hand make it's way up to her breast while the other made it's way to her back. The black silk robe slid off her shoulder as her fingers wrapped around a small handle that was attached to a sheath hidden behind her back. Her eyes made their way back to Alaric's. He reminded her of a stupid dog, even the children in her coven were smarter than him. "Alaric... My coven depends on this war. Your dogs would tear them apart. Children... Women... Innocent blood spilled for no reason. I must say though... I never seen you coming here for such a request. Why would you ever...?" The question was meant to be rhetorical, but the confused frown on Alaric's face was placed with certain suspicions. He opened his mouth in an attempt to put those suspicions to rest when Velorina pulled out the sliver dagger and slammed it into Alaric's chest. Within a few short seconds the poison kicked in and he started to gasp for air as blood spilled out of his chest like a fountain after she yanked the dagger back. Velorina watched as the blood of her lover pooled around her knees, her silk black robe easily becoming stained red. Only then did she realize what she did, a sickening scream ripped from her lips as she tried to stop the bleeding. His blood now staining her delicate looking hands. "Witch! Witch save him!" She repeated the scream until a petite woman stood in the doorway. The witch tilted her head and watched the scene in front of her. Velorina's screams turned to desperate whines as she scooped pitiful handfuls of blood and attempted to pour them back into the gaping hole in Alaric's chest. The fast acting poison was burning through the flesh and making the whole bigger by the second, it was made by the witch for this very moment. "Forgive me, my Queen he is already beyond the point of help. The poison was meant to spread fast, remember? Now you must drink before it is to late." At the last words Velorina's throat was set ablaze, tears ran down her face as she tried to fight her instinct to drink every drop. Her hands wrapped around her throat as a hiss escaped her lips, her tears spilled down her face faster. Velorina's thirst managed to overpower her self-control, her fangs plunged into Alaric's chest as a final choked whine left his lips. Velorina drank like her life depended on it, she didn't stop even after she felt him take his last breath. She drank every drop. Once the witch was sure that the Queen had drank enough she signaled for two bodyguards to tear the Queen away from Alaric's cold lifeless body, two more dragged the body off the bed and out of the room. Slowly everyone left the young Queen to face her emotions. Velorina took her anger, sadness and hatred out on the room. Hours went by and the heartbreaking sounds of Velorina's emotions could be heard from the farthest places in the castle. Finally Velorina threw open her chamber doors, the witch was leaning against the wall across from the doors. Their eyes met as Velorina took a deep breath. "Let us go perform the ritual witch. It is time to win this war."
