Ruby I walked out of Malcolm's office with legs that felt like water. The door shut behind me, and I had to pause for a moment in the hallway, my hand pressed against the wall to steady the storm in my chest. Oh goddess. A marriage contract. Those words rang in my ears louder than the sound of the vibrating tablet. My heart had been pounding as I entered his office, expecting punishment, maybe even dismissal, but nothing could have prepared me for that proposal. He didn't look like someone that was joking. His voice had been calm, steady, almost businesslike, and most of all, charming. I forced myself back to my desk, lowering into the chair with shaky hands. The tablet slipped once, clattering on the table. I grabbed it quickly, and heaved a sigh of relief as there were no damages.
