Cole’s friend Amanda spent a lot of time with me. For no reason. Or, I guess, no reason except she liked me. I had a little trouble getting my head around that.
Her family was a lot like mine, actually. Mother with a stay-at-home job, father with a well-paid blue-collar job, one boy and one girl. Amanda and Aquino took their kids to church but didn’t make them go to church school. They all played soccer, volleyball, and tennis. All of them could sing and play the piano. I guess when somebody in the house is a professional music teacher and vocal coach, there’s no getting out of that.
She told me she worked on a show with Cole twenty or so years ago; they’d stayed in touch ever since. Told me some stories about that job, and about what Cole was like when he was her age. Sh
