Chapter 16: Epilogue 2

It's been about 2 years since Colten and I have been married. And I have to say I love it. It's so fun just waking up next to him and all the crazy things he drags me into. I'm now sitting anxiously on a chair in my best friend Bridget's apartment. "You're freaking out for nothing." She assures me. "Am not!" I snap. "Are too. You never get this nervous. Not even at your wedding." "Because I was pretty damn sure no one would let him run out. Now he just can." "Again, stop freaking out. You don't even know anything." She shakes her head. "I'm pretty sure 3 months means something! And this bump! I look like I hate the whole town. I've been so busy I haven't noticed." I hold my head in my hands and groan. "Ariana! Snap out of it! Colten loves you." "But what if he doesn't want this?" "Has he ever said that?" "Well no but-" "No buts! Now come on it's time." She says, pulling me up and into the bathroom. My heart pounded in my chest. She handed me the stick. I couldn’t bring myself to look at it. “Damnit woman!” Bridget snaps. I take a deep breath and look down. Two, tiny pink bars hold the screen. I think I’m going to throw up. "I can't have a kid! I'm 21! I'm barley even legal to drink! Oh my God! I had a cup of wine the other night! Do you think it hurt it?!" I exclaim, clutching my stomach. "Only one way to find out." She says grabbing her purse. "You didn't." I narrow my eyes. "Oh darlin' I did. Now come on your appointment is in 10." She smiles. "Did I ever tell you I hate you?" "Did I mention you'll get huge over the next 6 months?" She winks. I groan as she pulls me out to the car to drive me to my appointment. * * * "I feel weird." I say, laying back as the doctor checked me out. "It's normal." Bridget assures. "It feels weird. I shouldn't even be here without Colten." I sigh. "Oh, most women come with their mom or best friend ma'am. Nothing to worry about." The doctor assures. I groan. "Okay Mrs. Evans. Would you like to know the s*x?" He asks, pulling off his gloves. Turns out I’m farther along than I thought. "Yes!" "No!" Bridget and I say in unison. "Why not?" I ask. "Don't you want to hear with Colten?" "Bridget I'm already here so that's out the window. Yes please." I tell him. My stomach bubbles with nerves. "You're having a boy." He tells me. For some reason a smile was brought to my face. I was carrying life in me. He says nothing I've ate or drank so far has affected my baby. But now I must watch everything I eat. "And you said you don't smoke, or drink correct?" He asks. "Well occasionally drink wine." I explain. "Well good. No more wine obviously. Here's your first picture and you can go get dressed and be on your way." He nods and leaves the room. I look at the little thing inside me. "It looks like a bean." I comment. Bridget starts laughing. "Come on hon let's go tell the father." She pulls me up. * * * I lay in bed with Colten close to me. "What's wrong? You've been acting weird all day." "I have?" I ask. "Well I mean it seems so. Are you okay babe?" He asks, concern in his eyes. Well it's now or never. "I have to tell you something." I say looking down. "Okay?" He says, sitting up more. I sigh and perch myself up as well. "I sort of- Well Bridget made me- Well no it was my idea. And partially my fault. And your fault too." I chuckle. His face just looked more and more confused. "I'm lost." He comments. "Colten, I- I'm pregnant." I say nervously. He’s taken back. He blinks rapidly a few times. "You're- you're what?" He asks. "I'm pregnant. You know, bun in the oven type deal?" I ratify. "When did this happen?" He asks, his eyes closed. Oh no. What if he didn't want a baby? "About 3 months ago. I just officially found out today." He exhales sharply. "You don't want him do you?" I whisper, putting my head down. "Him?" His voice softens. "Yeah it's a boy. I got this." I pull out the picture I hid in my book on my nightstand. I hold it out to him. His destressed face turns into a smile. "We're having a baby." he says. I nod. He turns to me, laying a hand on my stomach. "We made a baby." he gasp. "Yeah. A boy." I nod. He lifts my chin up and presses his lips to mine. "I love you. And this baby, you know that right?" He tells me. "Yeah. I just thought maybe you didn't want a kid. I mean we've never talked about it being so soon." I shrug. "Well now we're having a boy!" He smiles. "What do you want his name to be?" "You're carrying him for 6 more months. You name him." He rubs my stomach. "I like Haden." "Haden Evans it is." he says then brings his lips to mine. We were having a baby!
