CHAPTER 6-CLAIMED TERRITORY
The school felt different when Jayla stepped in that morning, not quieter, not louder, just sharper, like something was waiting to happen. Mia noticed it immediately, okay.... I don't like this energy, Jayla adjusted her bag strap, nothing is going to happen, Mia gave her a look, that's exactly what people say right before everything happens. Jayla didn't respond, but her eyes stayed forward, because she could feel it too.
That attention wasn't random anymore,it was directed. In the hallway near the lockers,a group of students had gathered earlier than usual, not the noisy kind of crowd but the intentional kind. the kind that formed when something important was about to unfold and at the center of it stood her, Eliana Kingsley, everyone knew her. Rich family, powerful background, always perfectly dressed, always surrounded by people who laughed a little too quickly at her jokes. and right now, she was staring directly at Jayla, not quietly, not curiously, but with clear irritation.
Mia whispered instantly,oh no, Jayla stopped walking, Eliana stepped forward, blocking her path,so you're here, Eliana said. Jayla looked at her calmly, move,a few students gasped softly, Eliana didn't move, instead she smiled but it wasn't friendly, it's interesting, Eliana said slowly,I expected more. Jayla tilted her head slightly, expected what?. Eliana's eyes flicked briefly around the hallway then back to her, the girl everyone is suddenly talking about, she said, the one supposedly getting close to Julian Julius, that name again.
Mia immediately step forward we don't have time for this, but Eliana ignored her completely. Her attention stayed locked on Jayla, I just want to understand something, Eliana continued, what exactly are you doing?. Jayla didn't react, standing. A few students snickered, Eliana's smile tightened slightly.
You know what I mean, she said, Julian doesn't talk to people like, not casually, not randomly,so it's funny that you suddenly appear and now everyone thinks there's something between you two. Jayla's expression didn't change, but her patience was clearly thinning. There's nothing between us, she said clearly. Eliana nodded slowly, like she was considering that but didn't fully believe it. that's not what people are saying, she replied, Jayla finally stepped closer, closing the distance slightly,I don't care what people are saying, she said. And I don't care what you think either, the hallway went quiet, Eliana's smile faded slightly, then she laughed softly, You're bold, she said. I'll give you that, she leaned slightly closer, lowering her voice.
But Julian Julius doesn't belong in your world, Mia immediately stepped forward again, And who made you the authority on that? she asked.
Eliana finally looked at her,oh I know you, she said dismissively. You're just the background friend,Mia stiffened but before she could respond, footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway, the crowd shifted again. Because Julian Julius was walking towards them and behind him, Ethan park followed like usual, already sensing trouble before it even arrived. Julian's gaze locked on the scene immediately, not surprised, not confused, just observing. He stopped a few steps away, what's going on? Ethan asked lightly, though his tone already suggested he knew. Eliana's expression changed instantly, the irritation softened into something else, something more intentional.
Julian, she said gently, like she owned the right to say his name that way, Julian didn't respond to her tone, his eyes briefly moved to Jayla, then back to Eliana. I asked a question,he said calmly, the hallway went even quieter, Eliana straightened slightly, stepping closer to him,I was just talking, she said, About...... misunderstandings.
Julian's expression didn't change, there are none, that made her pause. Ethan smirked faintly from behind him, Eliana recovered quickly, people are saying things about you and her. Julian's jaw tightened slightly, ignore them,he said. Eliana blinked, that's it? Yes, a beat, then Eliana turned her gaze back to Jayla, something in her eyes sharpened again. So it's true then, she said softly, You're not denying her. Julian's eyes flicked briefly to Jayla again, that silence, just a second too long was enough, Eliana smiled again slowly.
Like she had just found something she could use, interesting, she whispered, then she turned and walked away, her group following quickly behind her, the hallway slowly started moving again, but the tension didn't leave. Not for Jayla, not for Julian. Mia exhaled sharply, okay... that was way too much for one morning, Jayla didn't respond, because her attention was still on Julian and Julian despite everything was still watching the direction Eliana left in. Not because of her, but because of what she might now try to do next, Ethan leaned slightly toward him, You've officially made things worse. Julian didn't answer but his silence said everything, this wasn't over not even close.
