Blurb

The moon Goddess works her magic in very mysterious ways. Some she blesses with a majestic wolf of their own; bound together in body and soul. Others, it would seem she does not favour quite as much. Those who are not blessed with a wolf must be expelled from werewolf society. With her eighteenth birthday fast approaching, will Emberlynn be one of the lucky ones or the poorer few who were not meant for their world?

CHAPTER 1: Escape
EMBERLYNN'S POV: Trying to squeeze my rather generously proportioned booty out of the tiny washroom window was probably a bad idea in hindsight. Worse than that was my decision to tackle this task headfirst, despite this particular washroom being on the second floor. So, to summarize, many mistakes were made in the decision making process here. However, dangling out of the window head first and only kept safely in the washroom by my big booty, struggling to squish through the tiny frame, it really was too late to reassess my plan. "Okay, Emberlynn. The only way is down, so just get it done and over with." Admittedly, talking to myself was a bad habit of mine, but in this case, it really did help gear me up. Well, it was either the pep talk I just gave myself or the two large glasses of wine I had consumed tonight finally kicking in. Just then, I heard a rip and squeezed my eyes shut in remembrance of the beautiful dress I was wearing that had cost my daddy almost an entire week of wages. Being that my daddy is the beta of our pack, this dress probably cost a pretty penny. The first rip was followed by a second and then a third, and before I could even comprehend what was happening, I was falling head first into a conveniently placed bush below. The bush was so overly bushy that it almost resembled a cloud. I would love to say that I descended into the shrubbery silently to not alert anyone of my elegant escape, but that was just not the case. Doing my best impression of a banshee and wailing at the top of my lungs, I plunged into the bush in a fashion that was almost the complete opposite of the way an Olympic swimmer may dive into a pool. By some sheer dumb luck my screams were almost completely drowned out by the rather upbeat dance number that was playing inside. Despite that silver lining, I was now stuck in a bush that, despite its cloud-like appearance, was feeling rather spiky. I winced slightly at the feeling of the sharp twigs digging into my ribs. Snapping away branches and leaves, I could finally see my freedom. Carefully extracting myself from the bush, a picture of disorientation. With my arms and legs a flailing mess, comparable to that of a spider being washed down a drain, I emerged from the bush that a moment ago was my captor. Taking a moment, I looked down at my body to assess myself for any signs of injury. Not entirely to my surpriseI could see a few minor scrapes on my knees and elbows, but all in all, I could say I got off lightly. Realistically, I had spent far too long executing this rather hap hazard escape of mine. It was far from the stealthy getaway I had planned. Preparing myself to make like the wind, I stooped to a stealthier stance and started running home. I only lived a few minutes away from the Amber Moon packhouse where the party was still in full swing. However, I pushed myself to quicken my pace, in hopes I could make it home sooner rather than later. Let's face it, after the less than quick getaway I had just made, I really needed to cut as many minutes as possible lest somebody spots me. I had been running for only a minute or two when my house started to come into view. Oddly, I could have sworn this journey usually takes me a little longer. However, I am not usually running at lightening speed, so there is that slight difference, I suppose. Upon reaching the door to my house, I fished my keys out of my bra and quickly undone the lock. Knowing full well that my parents and siblings are all party animals, I felt certain they would all still be enjoying the party. So, with that in mind, I headed straight to my room to shower and get changed into some comfier clothes. Our home is one of the larger houses in our pack lands. This is due to my father's high tanking title. Consisting of four floors, the first was communal for our kitchen, dining room, family room and a small cloak room just off the entry way. The second floor was my parents' floor. The third floor was equally divided between my brother Albus and my sister Blue. The fourth floor is the attic, which is my room. Whilst my room is slightly smaller than Albus' and Blue's rooms, I am under the opinion that my humble quarters are by far cozier. Plodding up the last few steps to my room, I threw myself at my door, hugging it ferociously. Had anyone been here to witness this moment, I am certain it was not one I would ever live down. That being said, I had never before been happier to see my room than at that moment. With a rather dramatic sigh (if I do say so myself), I slowly peeled my cheek off my door and entered my room. Throwing a longing glance towards my bed, I debated just crawling underneath the covers and sleeping until this night seemed like a dream. Realistically, that thought itself was the deluded dream. However, about ten minutes ago, I was sitting in a bush, so a shower was not negotiable at this moment in time. "Bath, then bed, Emberlynn. In that exact order, girl." I spoke to myself again. On normal days, I usually don't give myself so many pep talks, but today was anything but a normal day. Rifling through my closet, I pulled out some undies and an oversize top and took them with me to my bathroom. All of my usual products were lined up on the shelf ready for me, so preparing for my shower was as simple as turning the dial and waiting for the water to heat up. I could feel the heat radiating from the shower, so I pulled down my underlies and shrugged off what was remaining of my once beautiful gown. Submitting to the steam, I stepped into the gloriously hot water. With the water cascading down my body; drumming down on my shoulders like a heavenly massage, I let myself de-stress as much as possible given the day I had endured. The only way I was truly going to relax was curled up in my bed. With that in mind, I quickly jumped out of the shower and rubbed myself dry with a towel. Throwing my t-shirt over my head, I hopped out of the bathroom and dove onto my bed. I smushed my pillows into a comfortable position and snuggled under the blanket until only my head was visible. Closing my eyes and smiling to myself, I finally felt content. I am in my happy place. Blissfully comfortable and warm and tucked away from the world in my little cocoon of blankets, I suppose I can finally reflect on this tremendously conflicting day. After all, I knew I would certainly be plagued with questions in the morning. My family are frequently sticking their noses in my business, and with today being such a big day, there is just no way they would let this go without any questions.
