CHAPTER:8

Ella P.O.V. Dad left, and I stood there for a moment, wondering what was wrong with him. “Is my dad okay?” I asked myself quietly before dishing some food onto my plate. I carried it back to the living room, where Lillian was sitting on the couch, watching a movie. I sat beside her with a worried expression, staring at the screen without really paying attention. “Do you really think Dad has asthma?” I asked. Lillian turned to me. “I honestly don’t know. I just pray he’s okay. If they diagnose him with any serious sickness, we don’t even have money for treatment.” “I pray so too. We just have to keep hoping.” I began eating, and after a while, something funny happened in the movie. We both burst out laughing, forgetting our worries for a moment. Then my phone rang. I picked it up. The number was unknown. “Hello?” I answered. “Hello, is this Ella Diego?” the person asked from the other side of the phone. “Yes, it is.” I replied with panic. " It your father. He has been admitted to a hospital. A friend brought him there, but the friend has already left. You need to come immediately and take charge.” she said as she cutted the line. My smile disappeared. Lillian noticed my expression. “What happened?” “They said Dad has been admitted to a hospital.” “What?” Lillian shouted. We immediately rushed out of the house. But when we reached the bus stop, we realized we didn't have the hospital's address. I quickly called the number back. After they gave us the address, we stopped a cab and headed straight there. When we arrived, we rushed inside and found Dad lying unconscious on a hospital bed. “Oh my God,” I screamed silently. I stared at Dad's unconscious face, and tears immediately filled my eyes. I couldn't control them. “What is all this?” I whispered. “We just started getting back on our feet, and now this. How am I supposed to pay for his treatment?” A doctor walked into the room and looked at us. “Please, can I speak with you for a moment?” I followed him into his office and sat down nervously. “Doctor, is everything okay?” I asked. He took a deep breath. “Your father has been diagnosed with kidney failure.” “What?” I stared at him in disbelief. “Yes. His condition is serious. He needs kidney transplant, and without it, his condition could become life-threatening.” My eyes filled with more tears. “But I don't have money.” “I understand, but you have about two weeks to arrange the necessary treatment,” he explained. “What caused it?” I asked. “He has been drinking heavily for a long time, and it has damaged one of his kidneys. The other kidney is now struggling to cope with the extra work.” he said, " And the payment is 2 million dollars" he said. I stared at him in shock, "two what" I asked. "madam he needs the surgery in two weeks" he said as he dismissed me. I walked out of the office with a blank expression. Lillian rushed toward me. “Ella, is Dad going to be okay?” “He has kidney failure,” I whispered. "What?" Lilian said. “And the payment is two million dollars.”My heart sank as I said the price. “Two million dollars?” I repeated, barely able to speak. I turned toward Lillian. “We're doomed,” I whispered.
