A Werewolf War

Cece aka Grace was right on time, knocking on the large white double doors of her 2 story house. Although mini mansion might be more accurate, as it was the largest residential dwelling in the coven. Her mother was on the council, of course she lived in a place befitting her. Ophelia took 2 stairs down at a time to rush to the door, giving an absent minded brush to her baggy t shirt and shorts. She was in comfy mode after getting home, changing into oversized clothes and partaking in a powdered donut - hence the brush down. "Cece!" The freckle faced teen all but sang as she yanked the doors open. "Do I have to tell at you again to just COME IN instead of knocking? I swear I've given you permission for over a decade." Grace's smile was glorious, but she always was the beauty queen. Ophelia was famous by association to her mother, but in her eyes Grace made her look like a fish. Gorgeous looks, almost terrifyingly smart as she was always top class, and if that wasn't enough she was a duel elementalist. At 18 her judgement ceremony revealed affinities to Earth AND wind. She was moderate in both categories, but just being a duel elementalist was nothing to scoff at. Maybe if Grace was her mother's child she would actually be proud of her lineage. Instead she got a dud. A failure. Only thing she got from her mom was her hair color. At her judgement ceremony the judgement orb went blank for the first time in recorded history for their town. Zero affinities. Probably why they approved her trip to San Diego honestly, she literally couldn't make trouble. "And I'll repeat for the millionth time, I am not walking into a council members house without knocking, no matter how close we are!" Grace spoke with playful exasperation, following their usual banter to a T as she pushed her way inside. "You got powder on your face by the way. Having too much fun without me?" Ophelia rolled her eyes as she closed the door. "Mother isn't even here. Some big meeting about the Eclipse Moon pack." "Oh? What about this time?" The raven haired witch pressed. She was always curious about politics, while the brown eyed girl actively tried not to think of it. "I think they recently took over another satellite pack and it's got everyone freaking out." She said it off handedly, trying to bury the topic. At least it was just the two of them; her father had died long ago, and her mother was often out. No siblings. She was used to all of this. But she knew with Grace's tiny gasp she wasn't getting out of this easily. She stole a glance over her shoulder to look at her friends large eyes. Her pretty rosebud mouth slightly opened before quickly closing in a tight annoyed line. "No, not again! What are those cursed weres thinking? That pack was already huge, they must know we'd take notice..." Ophelia paused walking as her eyes narrowed slightly. "...they must not care. Surely not a war?" Grace continued her thought and the red head tapped her own freckled nose, signalling that she thought the same way. "Werewolves and Witches have never gotten along, but it's been mostly peaceful. Why would they be doing this NOW?" Ophelia started walking again, motioning her friend to continue with her down the hallway towards the kitchen. Books were already set up on the island for them to review. "It goes without saying to not tell anyone. Can't have everyone panic. But...new Alpha. We don't know his motive, and I certainly don't know any specifics, aside that this escalation started after he took over." With a pointed look that signalled the end of this conversation - it just made her feel uneasy talking about confidential information even to her ride or die bestie - she sat down at the island and cracked open a book. "Ok, poisons 101. Let's review the chapter summaries." And with that began the long night of studying.
