Chapter14

Jack POV

I walked out of her hotel room, thinking what I just saw and how she reacted to the burn scar.

Maybe what I did was wrong, but I didn't expect to see that. I thought she was hiding something dangers.

I remember that burn scar of her. It looked familiar, like I've seen it somewhere else. I think I saw someone has the same burn scar like her. But who? I don't think it was someone I know in person or... It was a case?

Ya, it was a case, along time ago. I saw the picture. It has exactly the same scar like her. Circle with XS letter in the middle. The same place like her. Left lower back.

I was still waiting for the elevator to came when Sam phone called me.

" Hello Sam" I greet him.

" Helo Jack, how's it going? Did you find her?" he asked me.

" Ya, I found her. She stayed in the hotel near the station." I said. I didn't notice the elevator open and closed again as someone else going inside and press the button down. Oh well.

" Oh good then. Is she put you in trouble? " Sam asked me.

" Of course not." I answered him." Any news? "

" Yes, matter of fact. The finger print result of her just come out." he said.

" Tell me" I said paying attention, because I'm sure Alexandra Carter was not her real name as Max Carter wasn't.

" She come out with Julie Monroe name." he said. I knew it!

" Julie Monroe reported missing 7 years ago when she was 15 years old. She is an orphan, and live with her foster parents when it happen. I'll send you the data and her picture." Sam explained.

" Okay Sam, anything else? "

" she live in North Carolina backthen, and so is Max. So, this is might be the connection between them. " Sam said.

" okay.... One more things Sam, " I said.

" Ya? "

" can you check on an old case for me? Say... 7-10 years ago. About a burning mark with XS letter on lower back? " I asked Sam. Sam doing the report on the headquarter, that's why he cant go with me to St. Louis.

" Sure, but why? The girl had anything to do with it? " he asked.

" Matter of fact, ya. She had that, and I need you to check on it and send me the file. ASAP." I said.

" How do you know? You search for her?" he asked me.

I clear my throat. I remember when I search for her a moment ago. That was something. I mean Im an FBI special Agent, I search a lot of people many times , but with her, feels different. I feel some spark when I trail my hand on her. And holding her plump breast is something I can't forget. Gosh I have to strain my self backthen.

" Jack? Are you there?" he asked me.

" Yes, I'm here. Sorry.

" mm... Can you get the case for me? " I said

" Sure, I'll let you know. "

" By the way, the plane will be depart at 10, so get ready. I'll meet you when you arrive in Clarksburg. "Sam said.

" Sure things. Thanks Sam. "

" No problem Partner." he said. And we hanged up.

Sam send me the file he get for Julie Monroe. I read it and looked the picture of her when she was only 15. It was her. Beautiful little girls.

Why she and Max change their name and hiding? What are they hiding from? They definitely hiding, because there were no facial record on them in any social media.

I looked at her picture again and I felt guilty for what I did to her just now. And after a second thought I change my mind to buy breakfast for us and then I turned around back to the room. I open the door and she still sat in the bed.

" Where's the food?" She asked me curious, saw me back with empty hands.

" I change my mind." I said as I looked at her. Gosh, she need to wear her bra. I rub my forehead with my finger.

" What do you mean? You don't bring us breakfast?" She asked. " well, if you don't, then let me."

This stubborn woman.

" Go get your clothes fix, we going out for breakfast" I said as I open her handcuff.

She looked at her clothes, and get blushed as she cover her breast with her hand. And then she went inside the bathroom. I let her take her time in the bathroom. There were no way out there.

Then she came out of the bathroom after few minutes, wear some make up and her wig.

" Do you really have to wear that wig? We are going for breakfast not a date" I said looking at her beautiful appearance only for breakfast.

" Well, ya. I want to." she said. Then she put on her white sneaker shoes. And about to take her backpack.

" no no, leave the backpack here. We just going downstair in the restaurant." I said.

And she leave her backpack there.

" Let's go" I said as I open the door, and let her went outside. I walked with her and put the handcuff in her right hand and I handcuff my left hand with her.

" What are you doing?" She said stopping walk.

" breakfast. Come on" I said

" I'm not going, if you handcuff me like this. What would people think?" she said. I think she felt embarrassed if I cuff her.

" you are under my custody, I'm not going to let you walked like that. Beside I learn from my experience " I said. Well, she run when I uncuff her in Frank house. How am I supposed to trust her not to run?

" Then I prefer eat in my room," she said, not moving.

Stubborn.

" Suit your self" I said as I keep walking. And that make me pulled her right hand.

" Agent Hampton, stop!" She called me. I keep walking.

" You hurting me" she said. And I stop.

" You want to walked or not?" I asked her as I walked back to her. She shook her head.

" Fine" I said as I carried her in my shoulder and hold her legs with my hand. My left hand hold in higher place, higher than her thigh as my left hand cuffed with her righ hand.

" Agent Hampton, put me down." she said punching my back.

I pust the elevator button, and wait for the elevator to open. Luckily it open right away. An old woman stand inside.

I step inside the elevator, with the weird looked from the old woman.

" My wife, she is so spoil. " I said. I hear Alexa groan. And I smiled. The old woman smile.

" Put me down! Now! " she said. Stubborn.

And I put her down. Her face was blushed to red and her dress a little bit messed up. And she fix it right away. She didn't looked at me, I know she was a little bit embarrassed.

" look at you two.." the old women smile and cover her mouth.

" We are cute aren't we?" I asked the old woman jokingly.

" you two remind me when I was young with my husband. You looked happy together." she said and gave a small laugh.

" It's my floor. I leave you two now " she said as she winked and step out of the elevator.

And I couldn't help my self not to laugh when the elevator door closed.

" Shut up" Alexa said, but I can see she was smiling.

We finally got to the ground floor and walked to the restaurant. We told the waiters, seat for 2, and he gave us a table at the corner.

" seriously agent Hampton, I'm not going anywhere, can you open the handcuff, I'm not comfortable with that." she said. " people looking at us."

" so what? We are happy couple." I said teasing her.

" I'm serious agent Hampton. Beside I'm a right handed, I can't eat if you cuff my hand. " she said.

Gosh, this woman asked too much. Who asked her to be a thief anyway?

I open my handcuff and her, and then I move her cuff to her left side. She staring at me as I move to her left side and cuffed my right hand.

" Happy? " I said." Now order your food."

" I can't believe you" she said as she looking at the menu.

I took a napkin and put it in between our hand to cover the cuff.

" if that make you better, no one would see the cuff." I said smiling.

" Whatever." she said.

The waiter leave us after we order our breakfast.

" So Julie, why are you running away?" I asked her intentionally as I looked at her.

She almost drop her menu book hear me called her Julie. She really is Julie.

She looked around like she afraid someone else will hear us.

" Agent Hampton....." she said with lower voice and looking at my eyes. Her beautiful brown eye showing that she was cautious.

" please don't called me that name." she said. I can see that she was scare, afraid if anyone else know her name was Julie.

" But that is your real name isn't it?" I asked her. She know that I already know who she is. And she nodded.

" Why you and Max change your identity? "I asked her in low voice like her as I move closer to her.

She looked around again before she answer me.

" There is a reason why we change our name. But I'm not going to tell you here. Too many people" she said almost like a whisper.

" Okay. So you answer my first question then."

" What question?" she asked me

The waiter came with our orders. And we stop talking for awhile

" Why are you running away?" I repeat my question. Whisper also.

" Because I don't want to be in jail? Isn't that a good reason?" she said " You are going to put me in jail right? For the robbery? "

She started to eat her breakfast.

" I caught you doing a robbery. But you have the reason why you do that. And you help the fed to get Frank arrested. You cooperate. That could help you. " I said. Explaining her position.

" really? " she asked me. She sound interesting.

" You could hire a lawyer or if not, the government can provide you one. " I said to her. She thinking about what I said.

" Let me asked you something... How many time have you done a robbery?" I asked her.

She looked at me. She looked hasitate to answer my question.

" off the record. Tell me honestly, have you ever done any criminal activity before these 2 robbery?" I asked her again

" off the record? " she make sure.

" Ya. " I answer.

" None." she said. I knew she said the truth. She didn't looked like a criminal to me. She did that because she had to. She didn't have any choice. I might talk to my supervise about her, and make some deal for her. But she probably still have to go to jail, at least for a short time because of her crime. But I know she did a lot of help to the fed by turning Frank and his ledger as a proof. But first I had to send her to headquarter safely.

I looked at my watch, it was almost 9.

" Are you done?" I asked her. She nodded.

I asked the waiter to bring our bill and pay it. We need to go to her room to get ready.

" lets go back" I said as I stand up and she followed.

" Gather your stuff, we are going to leave now." I said to her as we arrive in her room.

" Go where?" she asked me.

" Airport. We took plane to the headquarters." I told her. She gather her stuff in her backpack.

And then someone knocking on the door. I told her to be quite as I took a peek at the peep hole.

A man with suit stand outside the door.

I open the door slightly, and let the door chain.

" Yes? " I asked the man with my gun ready in my hand behind the door.

" Agent Hampton? I'm agent Fox from St. Louis office. Can I come in?" he said as he showed me his badge.

" May I know what is this all about? " I asked him. I don't have any reminder about any other agent interfered. Her safety is my priority.

" Supervisor Pearson told me to help you with the transfer" he said smiling. Pearson? No one told me about that. I looked at him. His badge is real, but Im not sure about him. But I let him in.

" Sure," I said as I open the door for him. I looked outside in the corridor. No one, it was quite.

He step in and looked around.

" Alexa, can you take your stuff in the bathroom?" I asked her as I asked her to go somewhere else.

" Okay" she said as she walked to the bathroom with her backpack.

" Do you know agent Dunn?" I asked him

" Ya, he is my senior." he said. He? I know there was only one agent Dunn in St. Louis office, and she definitely not a man.

" Are you sure?" I asked him

" Ya, he help me with a case last month." he said without looking.

" I will put the gun down if I were you." I told him as I pointed my gun on his back.

" Agent Dunn is a she" I told him. He sighed.

" Okay, easy." he raise his hand and put his gun in the floor.

Alexa come out of the bathroom and surprised to see me pointing gun on him.

" What happen? She asked me.

" Go behind me. "I told her

She walked slowly to my back

" Who told you to come here? " I asked him.

" I told you. It's Supervisor Pearson. " he said. Keep on his alibi.

I take my phone from my pocket and called supervisor Pearson my self. It was ringing. But before he picked it up Agent Fox pushed me back and make me loose my balance, but I grip on the wall and prevent me from falling.

I grab Agent Fox legs as he tried to get his gun on floor. We were fighting in the floor. He punched me few time and I punched him few more time. I saw Alexa in the corner scare as she looking both of us.

" Who send you?" I Asked him As I pin him to the ground.

Agent fox didn't answer me, he manage to pin me down, but I keep struggle.

" She have to die, you better cooperate Hampton, or you come with her. " he said

" You bastard!" I yelled at him as I punched him.

He reach for my gun as we both fighting for it. And then suddenly Alexa hit him with a dim light from the bed side table and he fall to the ground.

My breath was panting.

" Why don't you do that earlier?" I said to her as I grab my gun and my phone.

" You.. you don't ask." she said. Gosh. Should I asked?

I check on agent Fox ID and took a picture of it. Harold Fox. He really are an Fbi agent, but from North Carolina office not St. Louis.

" Come on, we have to go." I said.

I grab her hand and open the door. I looked outside to check if anyone in the corridor or anything suspicious. But it was quite, so I decide to walked in the corridor with Alexa and phone called Sam. He picked up the phone.

" hi Jack, are you in the plane already?" he asked me.

" we are compromised Sam, someone is trying to killed us." I told sam

" Who?" he asked me

" someone inside." I said. " his name is Harold Fox"

" okay, I will check on him." Sam said.

The elevator door open. It was empty. Alexa and I walked in. I press 1st floor button. And the elevator started moving down.

" then it's not save for you to take the plane. " Sam told me.

" I know, we'll figure out. Can you find out what happen from the headquarters?" I asked him.

" Ya, I'll let you know." he said.

The elevator stop in 1st floor. I came out and hold her hand.

" What about the case I asked you Sam? "

" The burn scar? I'm still looking for it. " he said.

" Okay, let me know if you have some progress." I told him

" Sure, becarefull Jack" Sam told me concern.

" I'll let you know Sam. Thank you"

And we hang up.

" Why we stop in 1st floor?" Alexa asked me.

" I'm sure agent fox is not alone. Someone will wait for us come out from elevator. We take the stairs," I told her.

We walked down the stair and before we open the stair door to the lobby, I told her to stop.

" Alexa, they are looking for an Fbi agent and a criminal woman. So I want us to acted as a couple. Can you do that? " I asked her.

" and how am I supposed to do that?" she asked me like a naive.

" should I teach you about that?" I asked her rolling my eyes.

" Okay" she said sagged her shoulder

" Give me your bag" I said as I remember something.

" why?" she asked me

" Just give me that." I said as I reach for her bag. I tear her side bag a little and pull out a small device, throw it to the ground and crushed it with my foot.

" So that's how you know where I am." she said. Yes, we put tracer in her backpack. But since we were compromise with insider, I think it wasn't save for us.

" Took off your hood." I said.

" what now? You put trace on my hood too?" She said as she took off her hood.

" No, we are a couple and your hood will draw attention." I said as I fold her hood and put it in her backpack. I took her backpack with me and hold her waist before I open the door and walked out.

" Just acted natural" I told her and hold her closer to me.

I saw 2 man in a suit, and they wear sunglasses standing in the corner of the hotel looking at the elevator. One of the man looking at our direction, so I pin her to the wall and stand closed to her.

" What are you doing?" She asked me.

" there are 2 man looking at us" I whisper in her ear. " just pretend we were talking intimate."

" taking intimate?" she looked at me.

" Yeah, like now." I smile looking at her funny expression, her face blushed in a second. I will love to watch her like that for hours, but we have to move at any second. I looked thru the cabinet glass reflection, the 2 men were not looking at us anymore.

" Come on" I said as I put her in my arms and walked to my car.

A man with suit walked to us as I unlock my car and make a bip sound. s**t. They already wait for us.

" let's go," I told her to walked faster.

The man walked faster to us. And both of us step inside the car fast. I started the engine and I looked from my interior mirror, the man reach for his gun

" get down" I told Alexa. I started to drive backward out of my parking space and he started to shoot. Alexa screaming when she hear a gun shoot pointed to us.

I bend down to avoid his bullet and started to shoot with my gun in one hand and driving with my other hand. I shoot the man legs as he fall to the ground.

I accelerate my car before they have time to catch for us. I looked at the mirror, no one following us.

" Are you okay?" I asked her.

" Yes" she said.

" Are they FBI agent too?" she asked me

"maybe"

" Why fbi agent want to kill me?

" I don't know why they want to kill you. " I told her honestly. I can't trust anyone now.

" Will you kill me too?" she asked me scared.

" And if I want to killed you, I would do that while you were sleep " I said laughing.

And then I saw another car drive so fast toward us.

" Oh s**t! " I cursed.

" What?" she asked and the looking to my eyes direction. She gasp as she relized someone chasing after us.

" Hold on" I said as I accelerate my car.

We were speeding at each other. He pulled out his gun and started shooting at us. Alexa scream.

" s**t" I cursed as his bullet almost got us.

I bumped his car with mine, and make him drop his gun. And then we bumped each other and make both of us loosing balance and drive out of the road as I saw his car rolling over unsteady road. I tried to control my stearing wheel as my car out of road and hitting a tree.
