Mate

"I didn't mean to, I swear, I never meant to kill him. I didn't know what to do so I ran. " I said while I continued weeping as memories from that night came back.
"Try to calm down. Take deep breaths. Don't worry, everything is going to be okay."
Her gentle voice made everything feel better,and I gradually calmed down. For the next few minutes, I told them everything about my family from my parents to step family and how they treated me. I didn't leave out a single detail and I felt better after that.
After Dr Roberts discharged me,Claire drove me to her house which is quite beautiful. It is a 3 bedroom house and she prepared one room for me. I was grateful when she told me to stay with her, especially since I had nowhere else to go. She lives alone and she was more than happy to finally have some company.
"When is Dr Roberts coming?”
I asked, after I freshened up and changed into the clothes Susan gave me. Dr Roberts said he'll come over and they were going to answer all the questions that I had.
"Hopefully in 10 minutes."
she said and asked me to sit down next to her.
"I will need you to have an open mind to whatever we are going to tell you. It might
be very strange to you but please try to understand. At the end of this, you would have figured that your life will be different from what you are used to. But I will be here for you throughout.”
"This is a joke right? "
I said and started laughing but when I saw that they were serious I stopped.
"But that's impossible, werewolves don't exist, and I'm definitely not a werewolf. "
Dr Roberts arrived a few minutes ago and had told me how him and Susan are werewolves and that I'm like them. They told me that the reason I was feeling like I was burning up was because I was having my first shift. They later explained what werewolves are, their abilities and hierarchy. This was all confusing.
"Skylar, everything we have said so far is true. You should have noticed the changes that "
"I'm not a werewolf! You all are out of your mind!" I snapped.
"Skylar. " Susan tried to speak but I cut her off.
"No! You are all crazy."
“'Hi Skylar”
I heard a faint voice at the back of my head but I brushed it off as just my subconscious. I started feeling like someone was banging my head and I let out a loud scream but it was more of a growl. But how?

"Get out of my head!" I shouted.
'I can't. I'm part of you now.' it replied.
"What's happening to me?!"
" Sky sweetie, please calm down. These are the changes that Isaac was talking about. You have to trust us, so that we can help you control them. Remember what I
said? Your life has now completely changed. You just have to trust us. "
Susan said and after a while I just nodded.
"But how is it possible that I'm a werewolf?
As far as I know my parents were both human." I asked
"In your situation, one of your parents must have been a werewolf, therefore
their offspring would be half werewolf, which is what you are. In most cases half werewolves usually remain human throughout their lifetime unless something triggers their wolf, in your case it was when you were defending yourself from your stepbrother, your wolf killed him"
Doctor Roberts said.
"But why would a werewolf have a child with a human, isn't that genetically impossible?"
I asked and they both chuckled.
"I think now is a good time to introduce the term 'mates' . "
Susan said with the wildest smile.
"Mates?”
Mate is like soulmates in human words. Every werewolf has a mate given by the moon goddess. They are destined for each other and their bond is very strong. They can recognise each other through a unique scent and also looking into each other’s eyes. When you turn eighteen that's when you would be able to find your mate" She paused and seemed as if she was recalling an event from the past.
"The mate bond is a beautiful thing…but
when your mate dies, he/she takes a part of you with them, you would want to die with them."
"I think my mother was a werewolf. When my father died, she completely changed and drank her sorrows away. Then she finally took her own life and left a note saying she couldn't go on without him. "
I roughly wiped my tears. I didn't want to cry for her, it angered me. She never cared about me and how her death would affect me.
" If you ask me, mate is a horrible thing. "
I concluded.
"When you finally find your mate, it will be far from horrible. "
Susan said, trying to reassure me.
"You mean I have a mate out there?"Is there a way I can reject him?I don't want a mate, especially considering what it did
to my mother. I don't want to be like her."
I said meaning every word
"oh sweetie, don't say that, it….”
Susan was saying when Dr Roberts interrupted her.
“How about you let her rest for tonight and we'll continue tomorrow.”
Gray's POV
“I lay down on my bed thinking about everything that happened today. Tomorrow is the mating ceremony and my mom won't even look at me when I went to see her. She doesn't want me to mate with Chloe. It's highly possible that our relationship will strain more after the ceremony. During the mating ceremony, I will mark Chloe, thus making her the Luna of the pack. The mark is permanent and I would be bound to her forever, even if I meet my mate after that,I would never be with them.Basically I will be trapped with Chloe forever.
Skylar's POV
Susan we would be attending a mating ceremony with the alpha and some girl in the pack. She said it will help me learn more about werewolf culture and also I'll need to meet the Alpha for formalities and all.
We are currently driving to the pack house Dr Roberts's Jeep. I don't know what's wrong with my wolf but she just felt jumpy suddenly and wanted me to tell Dr Roberts to drive faster.
"We are almost at the pack house, the hall is just behind it."
Dr Roberts said when he saw my eagerness. After like 5 minutes I saw a huge mansion and I honestly thought it was a Royal Mansion until Dr Roberts said it is the pack house.
"We are here. "
Susan said.
"We are a few minutes late, let's quickly head to the hall " Dr Roberts said and We followed him.
"I welcome you again"
A voice said as soon as we reached the hall, it was so husky yet tender at the same time, making my wolf more excited than she was before. I kept on following Dr Roberts with Susan holding my hand until
an intoxicating scent filled my nose, it smells like lavender and blueberries, oh goodness where is it coming from and
why was it driving my wolf crazy?
"Are you alright sweetie?"
Susan asked and realized I had stopped walking. I just nodded and continued following behind. The scent kept growing stronger and my wolf was just jumpy it was
like she wanted to say something. Then I suddenly saw a handsome figure with a strong chiseled jaw. His dark, thick hair was falling slightly into his intense hazel
eyes that were piercing into mine. My wolf finally screamed in my head.
