"Skylar!" The sharp voice of my stepmom pierced the air and I instantly shot up from my sleeping position. I fumbled with the alarm clock that was meant to wake me up and saw that I had slept an hour longer than I intended. I groaned, knowing that I would get in trouble for this "Skylar!" She yelled again, getting louder. I quickly got out of bed and began making my way downstairs when I heard her footsteps coming my way. I finally reached downstairs and I froze in the middle of the hallway, her brown eyes seemed black and furious and her blonde hair was still ruffled with sleep. She came closer and I nearly took a step back but I stopped myself as I remembered what happened the last time I did. "Yes, Stella?" I cautiously spoke as I looked down at my feet. I was carrying most of my weight on my right leg since I was still injured from my last beating. My left leg really needed medical attention, and they all knew that, but they don't want to risk anyone figuring out how I got injured.When my dad died six years ago, my mom was completely torn. I mean, we were all devasted and crying for weeks, but it was like my mother took it to another level. She started drinking and staying out late, never picking me up from school or my soccer games, so I learnt to walk from then on. All of our relatives moved away and never contacted us again, not even a card for my birthday. And everything was just different. I always thought that my mom would learn to live with his death like I had and that she would stop all the drinking and drugs, but it only seemed to get worse. one day she came home with a new guy, my stepdad, she didn't even notice how he was treating me. The first time he hit me was when I didn't pass him the beer and he got mad, punched me right in the face. I had a bruise for days and she never once asked about it. Then a few months passed and we found my mom hanging from the ceiling with a rope tied around her neck, a small note with only one sentence was underneath her. "I can't go on without him." She didn't say anything to me in her last words and she didn't even mention me. I was her only child! Didn't she think about what would happen to me when I no longer had her? And then my stepdad, Raymond, started hitting me more often and soon married another lady. That lady's name is Stella. Stella has a child who is one year older than me, Thomas. I thought that they would stop the beatings from Raymond and help me, but they only encouraged it and did it themselves. Stella's hand slapped me across my already sore cheek, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!" I held back my wince as I looked up at her "Sorry ma'am" She huffed. "You were supposed to wake us up an hour ago! Now we're going to be late" She spat "Argh, shut up!" Thomas came stumbling through his door, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. "I'm trying to sleep!" Stella scoffed, "You have to get ready for school.And you only have ten minutes thanks to Skylar. " "Wha-? s**t!" He glared at me and hurried down the hallway to the bathroom, pushing me against the wall along the way. Gray’s POV "Gray!" Chloe's voice distracted me from my work. And I growled in annoyance. "What is it Chloe?" I asked and looked at her. She is leaning on my office door, in a black tight, short dress, that made her breasts look as if they were about to sprint out any moment from now. And I couldn't help but rolled my eyes knowing she dressed like that to seduce me. "I've been standing here for the past 20 minutes but you didn't even notice my presence. "Get to the point Chloe" She huffed and stared at me with her bright green eyes. "Fine.I wanted to know if you have decided on the date yet?" She is asking about the mating ceremony. I finally decided to mate with Chloe,after so many years of searching for my mate with no luck.I had to take up the Alpha title from a very young age when my father died from a brutal rogue attack even though he was a strong Alpha he wouldn't have had a chance against an army of rogues. As Alpha of Moonlight Pack, I have a huge responsibility on my shoulders but I managed to make the pack the strongest and biggest pack in Europe within 7 years. A strong pack like mine needs a strong Luna. I've waited long enough for the moon goddess to bless me with my own mate but to no avail. Which is why I finally decided to mate with Chloe, who is the former beta's daughter and current beta's sister. Her bloodline gives her the potential of being the strong Luna that this pack needs. Chloe also hadn't found her mate, well let's just say she was fine about not finding him because she always had a thing for me from way back. When I finally proposed this offer to her, it was as if she had been waiting for a very long time. I have no sort of feelings whatsoever for Chloe, and I'm probably going to regret this in the long run, but I'm doing this for the good of the pack. Plus it has been bloody 5 years of searching! "Soon" I said without looking at her and I could hear her excitement. She jumped on me and placed her cold lips on mine. Arghhh, I guess I'm going to become the world's most unhappy Alpha. Skylar's POV "Skylar!" Thomas called from across the busy hall of students ready to go home. He jogged up to me while I nervously shifted from foot to foot. "Uh...yes, Thomas?" I asked, making sure we were in full view of others. everything about him looked friendly and inviting. Everything except for his dark brown eyes that glared into my light blue ones. He always pretends to be nice to me at school, putting on kind smiles and occasional hugs, but once we walk through our front door, he's back to treating me like a piece of trash he found on the side of the street. "I was just going to ask if you would like a ride home today? Mum said something about needing to talk to us. " He looked at me knowingly, squinting his eyes slightly as if to dare me to decline. I plastered on a smile and nodded "Sure.” Even though my heart was beating fast and I felt fear creep down my spine. I entered his car and he drove us home. Once we reached the house,I anxiously walked through the door to find Stella and Raymond sitting on the couch waiting for me. "Don't worry, I'm sure you will black out quickly this time. " Thomas whispered to me and with a develish smirk as he walked upstairs and we heard him shut his door. Raymond stood up fast,wobbling a little since he was drunk as usual. "Skylar!" He pointed at me glaring through my skull. "Stella told me that you didn't wake them up on time. Is that true?" He narrowed his eyes and Stella had a small smile on her face. I gulped and slowly nodded, "Y-Yes. But I swear it was a mistake!"
