JUST AS WE CAME into the station at Caluso, about halfway to Turin, my new phone rang. It was Jim.
“Hello Jim, I am glad to find out the phone works.”
“Where are you now?”
“I bought a train ticket back to Florence but will get off in Turin and rent a car and drive to Monte Carlo to meet Cindy.”
“Any trouble so far?”
“No, I think I got out of Castellamonte clean. By my calculations, by the time they realize I have left, it will be too late to meet the train in Florence.”
