Tears Of An African Child

My name is Kingsley, am a native of Aguleri a community in Anambra State Nigeria, am 26, but am in prison, i have been in prison for the past 7 years and i still have about 10 years more to serve before i am free, but before then, i hope to write my story so that other African kids can learn and understand the dangers of living as a child in Africa, especially those who have been brought up in what we term as " ghetto". My story is a sad one, one that tells a tale of suffering on the streets, of days we could not eat, of days when we cant afford a thing, my mother is terribly sick, my dad is late, i was told i look very much like him, but i don't  know him, today my mum is sick and i have to get medication for her, all that is left at home is just 500naira about 1.5 dollars , i have not eaten and am hungry but my mum's health is important to me now, i went to a nearby pharmacy to get some drugs, the attendant ask me what the problem is, i can't even explain cos i don't know what my mum was suffering from. Before i could know it tears was pouring down my cheeks, the attendant being the owner of the shop felt so much pity for me, and followed me to the house to see my mum, when we got there he saw that the problem was much and it was not something that he could take care of, he asked me to wait that he is coming, i sat down besides my mum, he left to get his car to take mum to the hospital,, in less than thirty minutes he was back, we carried mum into the vehicle and we headed to the hospital, on our way my mum died, as a kid i thought my mum was sleeping, we got to the hospital the doctor checked my mum and confirmed she was dead, i felt like my soul left me and i wept bitterly. The death of my mum opened a new chapter that turned me into something else that i became, that put me where i am today. i deeply regret the death of my mum cos i would not have been where i am if mum was alive.
