Chapter 1.
"Hey baseborn, what are you doing today?" Darren Harper, and his best friends Douglas Brown and Wade Holt, approached another guy of the same age. Baseborn wasn't his name and calling him that usually gets him pissed up.
"My name is Scott, how many times do I have to repeat myself before it sinks into those little brains of yours." He drops the bucket and towel he was holding, as he stared at them with rage.
"Come on dude, we're not here to pick another fight with you. We'd like you to join us on a job and the pay is good. Isn't that right?" Darren looked at his friends who nodded in affirmation to what he said. "Besides, I'll call you whatever I'd like to call you."
"And you expect me to believe you." Scott could not fall for that presumed lie. The Darren he knew will never bring him a job offer. They've always been enemies since Darren vowed to always pick on him.
"Look, Scott, or whatever you call yourself, I know we don't like each other, but this is a four person job and you're the only one crazy enough to complete the circle for this job. Besides, we're doing this for the money and nothing else. After today, we can go back to being enemies."
"Are you in or not?" Wade added.
Scott took a moment to process the whole thing they said and thought it was a risk worth taking for them to come to him that way unlike their usual manner of approach.
"Count me in."
"That's what I'm talking about." Douglas felt excited, as he took the lead, heading for the car they came with.
A few hours later, Douglas stopped the car right in front of a 'do not cross" sign and they all came down.
"Wow, this job must be really dangerous." Scott was astonished.
"Yeah, I told you." Darren replied, "We have to be very quiet and act swiftly if we want this job to be a success."
A few steps forward, Scott began to get uncomfortable with the whole place, given how awfully quiet it was, not to mention the sign they passed and some bullets seen on the ground.
"Is it too late to back out?"
"What?!" Darren, Douglas and Wade exclaimed in surprise as they stopped, none of them expected Scott to say such a thing because he always acts tough despite how hard they tried to intimidate him.
"I mean, look around, this place is probably more dangerous than it appears to be. The bullets and blood stains on the ground are just enough to tell how dangerous it is to be out here alone without any weapons."
"And who said we aren't prepared?" Darren brought out a pistol from the waistline of his trousers.
"Whoa!" Scott's mouth went wide open, he didn't see that coming, but still he continued. "A pistol? That's still not going to be enough amour for whatever is out here, trust me."
While he was still talking, they began to hear strange noises coming from the partly destroyed buildings around, and in a matter of time, some weird beings started coming after them with unmeasurable speed.
"Holy s**t!" Wade froze, he knew about such beings but had not seen them before.
As the beings drew closer, Darren started to shoot at random. "f**k! Head for the car!" He shouted as they were not dying from his gunshot.
Before now, Douglas had already taken to his hills upon sighting the beings. He entered the car, without waiting for any of his friends, he drove off to save his life first.
"f**k you, Douglas!" Darren screamed as the car left them. He knew what would happen next so he stopped shooting and waited for the hungry beings.
The beings had the form of a human, but stunk like hell with fangs and claws, having green eyes and scarred skin, likely from gunshots and their own claws. Since Darren, Wade and Scott did not put up a fight for survival, they were bitten with ease, causing them to fall to the ground in death.
Hours later, some soldiers arrived at that location, they came as a result of the gunshots they heard, and began patrolling the area. Soon one of the soldiers shouted to alert the captain.
"Sir, you need to see this."
"It can't be." The captain was shocked as he realized that Scott's breath was still normal though he was unconscious still.

When Scott regained consciousness, he found himself on a sickbed, with all manner of tubes and wires connected to his body. Instantly, he began unplugging them out of his system.
"Calm down kid, you are safe." A soldier in his late fifties said, making him pause the removal of those tubes. "I am Major Walter Sharp. My men found you lying conscious some meters away from this parameter."
"Where am I?"
"This is military outpost two. Do you remember what happened and how you got out there?"
Scott didn't answer at once, the memory flashed back as he recalled everything that happened, then he realized again what the major called himself and where he was, which made him continue the unplugging of the remaining tubes.
"I think I am fine, Major and thanks for your concern. Now can I leave?" Stan got on his feet feeling strong as ever.
"I'm afraid no." Walter noticed Scott's memory of what happened was intact. "You were bitten by a hungry and didn't transform, which is usual, so you'll have to tell us who you are?"
"I'm nobody, please let me go." Scott begged as he began to feel frightened. He had the feeling they wouldn't let him go if his stay is prolonged a bit.
"What's your name son?"
Before he could lie about his name or even give a response, a female scientist walked into the ward, "Sir, you wouldn't believe what we found."
"Right on time, Nellie," Walter was relieved a bit as he expected good news.
"Our database shows he's connected to Floyd Malton. This is one of the twins, Sir."
"Well done Miss Black." Walter applauded her as he turned to Scott. "Hello young Malton."
Seeing that the identity he was trying to hide from them was discovered, he saw no reason to act ignorant anymore, so he replied. "Hello Murderer."
Both Walter and Nellie were shocked by what Scott called him, it proved to them that Scott knew more than he ought to know, and the unexpected shock that showed on their faces made it impossible for them to explain or say anything again to him.
Then Colonel Oliver Clay walked in on them, and seeing the surprise on both Walter and Nellie's face, he said to Walter thinking he knew the reason behind their surprise. "I see you've heard the news already. Well, he's under your command now. You know what to do."
"Yes Sir." Walter hesitated as the order was something he wished there was a way he could object to, but his hands were tied.
