The Two Chair Theory

Anara’s  p. o. v. Me and jatin were thinking about the Board meeting which was just 2 months ahead that’s why we were looking forward to today’s meeting. we were waiting when meeting’s strategic results were in front of us. We needed a strategy for our plan and these papers were going to be foundation of that. It was not like we wanted to betray our parents or do bluff to board members. But in our view it was needed for the company. V &V ( vasim and vora) company was founded by our fathers and they ran it last 25 years with their equal efforts by sitting into these two chairs. In every success they had equal participation. They think alike that’s why it was easy for them to run but in our case things were different. The power of these two chairs was united in their time and the reason was they were founders and every board member respected and obeyed them, but in our case while succession some board member would try to disperse the power in board members also. It could result as weak links. We knew so much about this company. We apprenticed in it during our vacation and worked in it every moment we got and had seen every change it made. I got out of my thoughts when Jatin asked my focus to a project report. It was arranged so fine that looks like one person work but a person competitive enough would make a project like this in least of one month time and we announced this meeting’s agenda 20 days ago. there was indeed  a missing piece in this puzzle but this project was all we required, And if this was done by a single person then our problem finally found a solution. I inquired from the planning officer who was meeting head about that and found that it was wholly done by a new young employee and that was hard to believe. “We should meet her and check by ourselves” I thought aloud. Jatin nodded in agreement. -          “But it is practically impossible to complete a project like this before the board meeting.” said the middle aged planning officer scrunching his nose and seeing from above his thick rimmed glasses. -          “If it is really developed in last 2 weeks then she made this already possible and that could be cleared if we have surety from her.” I told him in sharp voice. -          “And for that if we have to appoint her as a new planning officer to add in the office we will surely do. If I am not wrong she is competitive enough for this job.” added Jatin. Sometimes we really think alike. -          “But she is new and completely inexperienced and do know nothing about this company, its agenda and its goals. How can she be given this big responsibility?” he inquired. -          “I think we don’t even need to meet her. She is competitive enough to let a planning officer feel insecure.” I replied sarcastically. -          “ Okay! I think I should prepare this meeting room for that cause today’s meeting is going to be long enough. May I excuse myself.” he said and stood up from chair. -          “Go ahead.” said I. -          And we need complete data about this project in the meeting room.” added Jatin looking through the project file. The planning officer escaped through meeting room door and we sank back to the project file. If we have to find the reality we have to prepare for that. After spending 3 hours and gobbling up 4 cups of coffee we were ready to cross examine the lady so we made a call for her. After some time lift opened and I seen a medium height young girl with shyness and hesitation in her demeanour. She was looking like an introvert child was left in an amusement park alone and when she entered in the office she looked as if it was her favourite large marry-go- round in front of her instead of us, but then I noticed it was not us but the view behind us. It was indeed magnificent I myself liked it so much. After a brief introduction we sent her in meeting room to prepare. When she was out of sight I asked Jatin if he is confident about her because she was not looking confident enough to do a simple task how she is supposed to do a project of that big scale in this short span of time and we are thinking about bigger than this. -      " I’ve seen slight flames of confidence in her eyes. may be your focus was busy in noticing anything else so you didn’t noticed it. once we are in there everything will be cleared.” Jatin stated gesturing to the meeting room. I hope this evening goes as we expected from it. - - - - - - -  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - --
