The silence was deafening. I sat with legs pulled up between my laps, my eye lids heavy from sleep. The cold ceramic and grime floor brought cold to my body but the cold didn't bother me. Through my body ached from staying in the same position for hours, it didn't matter. My mind was in a loop, still and unmoving.
Watching as formless things formed and disappeared as i shut my eyes vanishing them from sight but it lingered on.
My thoughts wondered back to the event it seemed blur and distance, my worry increased thinking of Ebere and her warning. Imagining how her voice would rise slightly for a scolding if she was to see me here. The thought only brought tears to my eyes knowing I might leave behind the only friend I ever had. I felt at that moment alone in this cruel world i have been thrown into.
A tapping sound drew near, slowly it came closer, lifting my head a little with unsteady heart beat. I figure stood watching beyond the iron hod, moving my head tiredly I stretched my neck to get a clearer view. The figure seemed to mold into a man. Clear dark eyes shined with the little light hanging from the back wall, his features weren't clearly seen, his height average and structure slim. Bending down, my eyes narrowed at his every move. Ready to be taken away, I don't move but only inch closer to wall.
Without knowing a plate of food moved towards the small pathway of the steel cage. I looked at it with longing, my stomach growling in hunger, looking up he was gone without a trance. I don't move to take the food and only stare at the inanimate object.
*****************************************
Nothing happened for hours, I wasn't sure if it was a new day or how many days have been here. I drifted in and out from sleep occasionally waking up from a nightmare where am torn between reality and fiction. Occasionally is half images of the forest. The jade green leaves spackle with sun. Am racing down the path, the trees flashing by with every determined footsteps I take. The place is peaceful and calm. My own oasis. Then the image is eased wiped off replaced with screams and blood under nothing but smoky clouds with taunting laughs and agonized screams.
Laying my head between my legs, my fist roles up in fist. Files roamed around the open food, there occasionally dropped off two times a day. It remained untouched a total of seven plates.
My cloth are sticky and wet. Heavy smell of urine clouded around me. My ears shaped hearing the sound of footsteps coming closer, I looked up expecting the man who always delivered the food. Once my graze is up those intense orbs that invade my dreams and kept me awake at night pierces mine.
His presence was demanding, his large height intimating almost reaching the end of the bars. I was grateful for the wall that separated us but his intense orbs watched mine like a pray looking me up and down. I could feel myself squirm under his close observation, hating myself that he still had that effect on me. Broad shoulders hunched down slowly squatting down to my eye level. He place he hands on his knees expert predictor eyes lock me in place.
My heart hammed own its own accord traitorously. His intoxicating scent invade the cage, masking the wasteful smell. He doesn't speak and only watches me closely. Feeling ashamed I look away. Staring at the cobblestones that covers the cell walls.
'What happened that night'? His voice baritone voice commands answer. Answer I can't give.
Sighing softly, I crave back my solitude. Ignoring his questions.
'Answer me' he roars this time more louder. It echos through the wall his voice vibrating back then fading softly.
'when would I be killed?' I ignore this words and asked my own instead. My voice is hoarse, barely above a whisper. My throat still stings a little from the choking.
He doesn't reply to my questions but just stay silent I could feel his eyes on mine.
'you haven't answered my question and you are in no position to ask your own' his voice is lower and less rough. I look side meeting his eyes. The subtle folds of his forehead strength up a little, his manly feature less unwelcoming.
'i don't know' I find myself answering.
He huffs out, I can sense anger rolling off him. He is in no position to be anger I am in this cage locked up like an animal.
' what are you doing here' i demand.
He doesn't speak for sometime while his lips forms into a thin line.
'why did you save me' I ask quietly. cutting him off before he could speck, my head scream at me, I should beg and ask for forgiveness given that I did insult him. I take the high rode, priding myself till death.
'You could have allowed me to die than leaving me to die like this like an animal' I continued. My throat contracted together. Tears blinded my vision. I hated this feeling this pathetic feeling that somehow he has brought into my life.
'Vivian' he says my name slowly, my name rolling out from his sinful mouth. It brings unwanted emotions.
Lifting his hands to his head, he rubs his forehead harshly. Sighing and hissing.
'Am not going to kill you' he says slowly.
I don't believe a word he says and turn my head away from his.
'Because I don't want to' he explains fruitlessly. His words are empty to my ears I am still locked up and about to loss my sanity. However it doesn't change the reason why my heart beats at his tune.
'Alpha Leone' I say out his name for the first time after finding out that night. Slowly liking the way it rolled out from my tongue. He turns when I say his name.
' I hate you' I spat out.
Once the words are out, his face harden even more, I don't break eye contact making sure he sees my anger, my pain angled towards him. He doesn't respond to my declaration. Lifting himself slowly up, he stands on two foot. When his back is turned to mine and he is about to go. He stops but doesn't turn back.
'you are not going to die' with those final words he walked away leaving with a promise that somehow brings hope.
I watch with the corner of my eye as he walks down the into the dark hallway. Feeling the urge to crawl towards the iron rod and call out his name. Pressing my head against the wall, I scream out in anguish, angry tears rolling out, screaming like a banshee. My feets kicking at the air, hands rolled up in unyielding fist. Once the tears dried and more refuse to come out. I roll into the floor, allowing the cold to embrace my battered body. An humourous laugh escape my lips, I continue to laugh out, with no care in the world. It echo out coming out empty.
When my charada is over, I heard footsteps ahead, with blurry vision I wiping my eyes with the back of my hand. A silhouette inched closer towards the bar, something jiggled behind, I blinked rapidly trying to see who it was. The cracking of iron cage opened noiselessly, feeling disoriented I don't move. With the dim light a shadow formed into a man with stern expression, rough looking features. He moved forward, I inched back. My heart beating, pulse racing. He pulled at my arm raising me up like a weight nothing, which I didn't. With frightful wide eyes, I looked at his harden face. The willpower to fight died as he continued to drag me out of the cell and into the dark hall.
Bright light shined ahead, squirting my eyes I tried to adjust.
Another room came into view but without the oppressing iron, a single bob light swayed back and forth hanging dangerously down below a single wooden chair with sliver cuffs attached to it. I gulped uneasily, the man pushed me forward, I sat on the cold chair. Chaining my hands and legs, my freedom was kept once more. He walked out through the door once his done. The cold object are tight on my skin making it impossible to move.
The door opened slowly Keleshi the man I saw in the Alpha room walked in followed by another strange face than spice filled the air. He walked in without meeting my eyes, his assurance going into s**t. When three pairs of eyes turned to mine scrutinizing, feeling squamish under there assessing graze, I don't meet there eyes and keep my eyes on the door. Knowing how awful I looked and smelt.
"Who do you work for"? A voice questioned. I turned to them, the third man asking the question. I don't respond to him and only look back to the door.
My ears twitch hearing someone approach, a hard slap was administered on my cheek, the burning sensation burned than throbbed painful adding more salt to my injured body. Grabbing into my chin his nail scratch the upper layer, turning my face forcefully to his, eyes burned holes into mine, commanding my submission.
"You would answer when asked a question" he spat out. His hot breath on my face along with some of his saliva dropping on my cheeks. His nail dig harder into my chin making me whisper out in pain. I nodded my head, tears blurring my vision. He pushed at face releasing my chin.
"Keleshi" he called out still by side.
I hung my head shamefully, tears threating to spill, my throat burned from the assault.
A bang sound made me jump, Keleshi icy glare watch me with malice.
"Who do you work for"? He repeated the question from early.
Hesitating "No one" I said barely above a whisper.
My answer didn't seemed satisfactory.
' What happened that night' he asked.
Coughing out, I tried slowly to explain my part, somehow trying to prove my innocence.
' You want me to believe you had no part for the attack that happened during the lunar ball?' his tone was mocking almost like it was a lie.
I stumbled on my words trying to speak clearly. But he cut me off.
'if you don't say the truth, you would be truly unlucky' his threat was signal enough but I had nothing to give, I only had my side of the story trying to convince.
He backed off from the table going back, he moved towards a box at the corner, I had no idea how it came there. He removes a small knife, it shaped blade with pointed sharped tip, he stands up and walks towards me, slowly the knife on his right hand. My eyes stays glued at the object. He place the knife on the table, his eyes never leaving mine.
'You have two options' he starts.
'Either you say the truth or you die and is going to be slow and painful' he continues.
When I fail to speak, he picks up the knife from the table, my handcuff hands his primary target. With his left hand he lays flat my right hand holding it tight in place. I struggle from his iron grip, panic setting in. I watch as he brings it closer the tip piecing my flesh, not hard enough to draw blood. He push harder, I scream out in pain as it goes through my flesh.
Perspiration runs down my forehead, my breath coming out in irregular beats. Splash of red covers the wooden table. He moves away removing the knife, I scream out. The torture continues with the same fashion, the end of the blade going in and out from my flash. My
screams becoming muffles. With battered and bruised body, I feel my eyes close up giving into the darkness.
I snapped my eyes open, woken back into consciousness. Blurry images flashed through my orbs, a slight pain wires from my hand. My thought seem to snapped back to reality, the white walls becoming familiar. I look around the room and it's completely empty.
I came slowly to the realization that my arms aren't longer chained to the table, looking down so are my feet it's also unchained.
I don't have time to contemplate on they mistake, I stand up with wobbly feet moving to the door.
I peep out once it's open checking around for any movement. When I see non I begin to run. With every step my heart hammer through my rib cage. I don't stop till am at the last floor. By a miracle I go closer to the front door without seeing a soul. Pushing it with my good arm it doesn't budge at first. Trying harder I use my shoulders. From on top the stairs a guard spot me, he looks me over, from my wounded arm to my dirty stained cloth. I continue to push on the door with wide eyes. The guard charges down the stairs coming towards me. I must look like a escaping prisoner. With more urgency I push harder, gritting my teeth together. His about to come closer. The door finally c***k open, pushing myself forward I escape through the little grasp not before pushing it shut. Giving myself a seconds to run. I match down the small posh, the clear field my target. Am racing through the grass with bare feet before the door bangs open. I turn back worryingly the guard is hot on pursuit. I continue to race down the clear field looking back at the guard. I stumble on my own foot, my ass on the floor.
He picks up pace, his body seem to shift. Bones cracking and head moving into an irregular angle. He bends to the floor, howling out. His cloth gets ripped out with share force leaving him naked, his arm changing into fur becoming much larger. His teeth crash together painful, his head mutilating into a dog like face. Sharp canine elongate itself. His shoulder bends backward moving and cracking at the same time. My eyes are glued at the transformation. He jumps out from his body becoming into a four legged beast.
I scream out, using my hands to move back. His eyes are golden brown, teeth bearing out it threat. It moves forward slowly.
'Vivian' I hear my name turning away, I see Leone running towards us.
Within seconds he transforms into a black hair beast. He is huge easily powering over the brown wolf. He charges into the brown wolf, teeth digging into the neck of the other wolf. There stumble into the floor both bearing out there teeth. I stand on both leg my heart beating like a drum, looking left and right in panic state. I begin to run into the forest. Not once looking back, I race down turning left and right. Sticks piercing into my skin, the sun shining bright above. My breathing is shallow, I look back checking around if am begin followed.
I yelp out, my feet leaving the ground, leaving gravity.
