Chapter 3

443 Words
The two friends are shocked with what they observed. Unlike the real world where society functions on morals and good behaviour, the City of Knobbs seemed to work the opposite way. Throughout their exploration of the city, invisible to the naked Knobb-eye, the boys saw a mother who rewarded her child from stealing from a street vendor, scolded another for being nice to a pedestrian, and a bus driver who bribed a policeman and got a gold badge for it. Some students were also playing truant and were welcomed back home with open arms during school hours. “JESUS!” Charlie exclaimed. “This is some upside-down, inside-out world you have created, Fabian.” “Ha. Wait till you see the other two worlds in my other two stories……” Before he could finish speaking, a loud BANG! rang out through the crowd. Everyone screamed and ran for shelter. Some of them began to hide under market stalls. Some went indoors. Some ducked behind alleyways and vehicles and slammed the door shut. Despite being rather bad beings, no Knobb wants to die, apparently. The boys, too, began to panic. “ *Gasp!* What was that? Are they gunshots?” Charlie quivered. “Oh no. It’s Mark III, the notorious Knobb-Headed Gangster!” Fabian exclaimed. He always has three henchmen with him and has a long red scar on his face. He’s the baddest of the Knobbs. Let’s get outta here!” The two boys ran through the crowded streets, running straight into people and coming out completely undetected. Both of them were thankful for the fact that they couldn’t be seen, heard or touched by any character in that world. When they both realised that at about the same time, they stopped at a quiet spot, some distance from the city. “H-hey, F-Fabian……,” Charlie panted, “if no one can sense us… at all... in this story…… how come w-we’re running away from them? Any bullet would just go right through us!” Fabian thought for a moment. “True…… but I guess we panicked and then, ran first and thought later, huh?” Charlie nodded and laughed. “Yeah. Survival instinct, I guess.” “Wanna…… check out my…... second story?” Fabian asked, still panting. “It’s a less chaotic world, I promise.” “Yeah, let’s get outta here.” And the boys touched Fabian’s magical notebook and vanished from the scenes of Fabian’s first ever story.
