Chapter Two: Kicked out

"It's not what you think it is, Jacob. I'm telling the truth. You can ask him yourself! He tried to force himself on me. Jacob, I'm innocent! I would never stoop so low...that would be an insult to my dignity." "Dignity?" he growled. "Do you even know what dignity is? Because if you did, you wouldn't be sitting there lying when I saw everything that took place here. "You weren't even ashamed, having an affair with a man on our marital bed." Jacob growled again as he stared at the man, who had now put his shirt back on. He walked toward him, grabbed him by the collar, and without hesitation, connected his fist to the man's face. "Aren’t you ashamed, huh?" he said as he threw another punch. "Having an affair with another man’s wife." He kept punching, but finally, the man got the better of him. He shoved Jacob to the floor and, in that charged moment, fled the room. Jacob quickly got to his feet and ran after him, but once he got outside, the man was nowhere to be found. He turned to me, still lying on the floor, and decided to vent his anger on me instead. "And as for you," he growled, "you claimed you love me, yet you go ahead and sleep around with men?" He spat. "You disgust me." Then, a bitter chuckle escaped his lips. "What’s the point of having s*x with different men when you’re barren? You couldn’t even bear me a child after all the nights we spent together. "This is it. I’m ending this relationship for good." Had I heard him right? Did he just say he wanted to end our five-year relationship? He had to be kidding, I retorted in disbelief. I stood to my feet. "Jacob, you have to believe me. I didn’t do this. I can’t do something like that, you know me! Please, don’t do what you’re about to do. How will I face the world? How will I face myself?" I walked to where he stood and placed my hand on his cheek, my eyes red and teary, but he pushed me away and landed a slap on my face. "Hadn’t I told you not to touch me? I’ve made up my mind, Nora. I can’t be with a barren and disgusting woman like you, who doesn’t even have dignity!" My eyes widened in shock. Today was supposed to be a special day for me, yet I was facing the harshest pain. But what surprised me more was Jacob grabbing my hair and yanking it hard as he dragged me out of the room. "Jacob, you’re hurting me!" I begged, but he didn’t respond. He just kept pulling me, and I struggled against his grip, whimpering. He dragged me by the hair down the stairs, and once we got to where everyone was, he threw me on the floor again. Eyes stared at me as my own husband treated me like trash. My body ached painfully, my vision blurry. I looked at Candy, who had a smug expression on her face, her smile never wavering. Jacob, on the other hand, walked back up the stairs and headed to his room. A few minutes later, he came down with a pen and papers in his hands. When he got to where I crouched on the floor, he flung the papers in my face. "There! I’ve had enough of this nonsense. I can’t be with a w***e. Sign the divorce papers and get out of my house." I stared at him. "You can’t possibly be serious about this, Jacob. How could you..." "Just sign the goddamn paper!" he yelled, his voice the only sound heard in the hall. Tears fell down my cheeks. I couldn’t, how could I just end my relationship with Jacob like that? "Jacob, you have to think things through." "Oh, I’ve thought things through," he replied. "I’ve signed the papers already. It’s left to you now. Sign it and get the hell out of my house." "Jacob, I can’t possibly sign it," I wept as everyone stared at me, some giggling at my suffering, while others feigned pity. "Ugh! Just sign it already!" Candy’s voice cut through the silence. "Yeah!" another man added. "He doesn’t want you anymore, why keep to the marriage? Sign it!" I hesitated. I couldn’t do it. But then Jacob lunged forward. He picked up the pen from the floor, forced it into my hand, and made me write my name on the papers. Tears streamed down my face as he forced my hand against my will. Once the paper was signed, he grabbed me by the hand and began dragging me out of the house like I was a piece of garbage. "Jacob, please," I begged, but he didn’t listen. He kept dragging me, completely blinded by love for Candy and hate towards me. With one final shove, he flung me out of the mansion’s door and closed it right before my eyes. I scrambled on the floor, then stood on my feet, rushing back to the door and pounding on it with all the strength I had in me. "Open up, Jacob! Please, I beg you, just open up!" I cried, hoping he would hear my plea and come to his senses. But no one came to my aid. I crouched to the floor in tears, leaning against the wood frame of the door. Everything felt like a dream. How had it all come down to this? Today was supposed to be my day, and now I was the one being kicked out of the house. I stood up, the weight of the incident pressing down on me. My mind flashed back to the early years, how Jacob used to call me his world, how he treated me like I was a queen, like I was the best thing that had ever happened to him. And then I remembered everything that happened tonight. Now I was in the streets, walking. I didn’t know where I was going, I just knew I was moving, and that was enough. I was so clouded in my thoughts that I didn’t even notice a car coming, one that almost ran me over had I not jumped aside in time. After walking for about an hour, my legs grew weak beneath me. My vision blurred. I collapsed onto the floor, leaning on the rail of a bridge I was on. Just as I did, I noticed a pool of blood rushing from between my legs. My mouth opened in shock. I wanted to scream, but no voice came out. I just laid there, tears streaming down my face, and in that moment… darkness consumed me ********** My head ached and my eyes blinked open as a bright light shone on my face. I could hear the beeping of machines and that terrible scent that always made me sick to my stomach. Yes, it was clear. I was in a hospital. But how the hell had I gotten here? I asked myself. I forced myself to sit upright, pain pulsing through my spine. Things began to clear up. I could finally see well. An oxygen mask was strapped to my face and an Infusion line tied to my arm. Both made me feel more uncomfortable than helped. I removed the oxygen mask from my face, then the Infusion Pain pulsed through my arms, but in time, I felt better. I heaved a heavy sigh and forced myself off the hospital bed. As I did, I tried to take a step, but the whole room spun around. I nearly fell, if not for the fact that I clutched the hospital bed for balance. Just then, the door opened and two figures emerged. I recognized one instantly. I didn’t need to be told who he was. Mr. Victor Dane. A rich business tycoon, and Jacob's long-time rival. What I didn’t understand, though, was why he was in the same hospital as me. Beside him was a woman in a white tailored coat. Upon seeing me on my feet, she rushed toward me. "You’re not supposed to be standing!" she said, forcing me gently to sit on the bed. I stared at Mr. Victor, not knowing what to say. But then his calm voice cut through the silence. "Hello, Nora," he said, his expression soft. I didn’t reply, I just stared, still too weak to speak. The doctor looked at me with concern. "You were severely injured, dear," she said. "Luckily, Mr. Victor brought you in just in time. You were saved." I turned from her to Victor. "Thank you," I said, showing gratitude. He nodded silently. I turned back to the doctor. "Doctor... I hope my baby is okay?" I asked, eyes pleading. She hesitated, avoiding eye contact. I turned her to face me. "Doctor... hope my child is alright?" I asked again, tears already gathering in my eyes. "I’m sorry, Mrs. Nora," she said gently. "We tried our best... but unfortunately, you had a miscarriage. You lost your child.”
