Truth about the Tournament

717 Words
Inside the royal palace throne hall, the battle gods decided to take their leave except for Ethan who was invited to discuss things about the tournament that will happen in three months. “Sir Ethan, the real purpose of the tournament is to grant humanity powers to defeat the Demon Lord.” “Defeat the Demon Lord?” Ethan repeated, this was not the information he received from Christine, it was obvious that he was surprised about this matter. “That’s right, there is also a lie about the tournament wherein it happens annually. It was a lie made up of the higher-ups supported by the rest of the country. The truth is the real tournament which we called the Holy Grail Tournament will happen in about three months. Each country will pick their participants and have them fight here in the Bethia Kingdom.” “Okay, then what is their goal?” “Their goal is the same as ours, to defeat the Demon Lord.” This time, Ethan was confused. “I don’t understand, if all countries share the same goals then why are you fighting against each other?” “The truth about that is power.” “Power” Ethan nodded slightly, prompting him to continue. “The Holy Grail Tournament will grant powers to the victor of the said tournament. Powers like divine power, spirit power, elemental power, and the like. So, whoever won this tournament and the grail vested him or her power. It will become a threat to another nation.” “Threat?” “Let me ask you this, Sir Ethan, what do you think will happen if the Demon Lord is exterminated?” Asked by a sudden question, Ethan contemplated for a second. If the Demon Lord is exterminated then humanity will win. That's simple. So he answered him with this thought. But the King shook his head, indicating that it was the wrong answer. “Unfortunately, humanity will find another enemy to satiate their desires. After all, humans are greedy and violent species after all. When the Demon Lord is exterminated then humanity will find another enemy. It could be a spirit, elves, beastman, and so on until there’s no enemy but humanity itself.” With his brief explanation, Ethan understood it. “So, after the Demon Lord is defeated, you think that humanity will succumb to its animalistic desires huh?” The king nodded in affirmation. “I see, with that information, I think I know what to do in the tournament.” “Please sir Ethan, with your guild’s power, the Kingdom of Bethia will be the victor in the Holy Grail Tournament…” Pleading for help, Ethan took a low glance towards the king as if he was a bug crawling from the ground. “So all of you are the same huh? You wish for power too, you really justified it just now on how you view humanity. But we’re different and I believe my guildmates will think the same as me. No one will touch that holy grail without our permission. We will be the victor and keep the reward for ourselves.” The King's face contorted in an infuriating expression after receiving disrespectful remarks towards him. But he has to calm himself, that guy in front of him is powerful and all the heroes of Bethia don't stand a chance against him. “But don’t misunderstand it.” The King was snapped back to reality after hearing his voice. “We will represent the Kingdom of Bethia because that is one of the requirements for joining the tournament. Once the tournament is finished then we will have no business with you and can do whatever we want. Know that we’re only doing this because we seek an answer.” “Answer?” Just before he could continue speaking, Ethan began to turn around and walked forward towards the door. Reaching the doorknob, Ethan stopped and turned once more. “Before I leave there is something I want to tell you. We are not humans, we are Gods from another world.” Leaving the room, the king was left in question. “Gods from another world?”
