The Royal Capital City of the Kingdom of Bethia stood proudly to its name. As one of the wealthiest countries on the continent, the environments are clean and organized. The concrete paved road, sewage systems, lighting pole but instead of electricity, they used magic runes to light up the city.
When it's nighttime, you could mistake it for a modern city without skyscrapers.
Three battle gods in their cloaks are walking in the inner district of the town. They were plazas, and the largest of them was called the Central Plaza. It was filled with stalls selling vegetables, spices, meats, and other such commercial products.
Amidst the crowds, the stall-owners energetically shouted their sales pitches to the people walking by, while the older women haggled with the merchants as they looked for fresh food. Drawn by fragrant scents, young men purchased skewers of roasted meat which oozed with warm juices.
“This might be it…”
After walking for about fifteen minutes, they managed to reach their destination.
The five-story tall building stood in front of them. It was made of concrete and wood and has many people inside it.
One of them looked at the sign of the building and saw so confirmed that they are in the right place.
So the trio entered the building.
This place is called the adventurers' guildhall. It is a building wherein adventurers will take a hunting-monster job.
The place is full of people donning their armor, swords, spear, ax, and staff. Most of them gathered in the corner where the bulletin boards full of subjugation quests were mounted.
In front of them is a line of people that waits patiently for their turn for the receptionist to entertain their request.
Such things are new to them and it was hard to recuperate since they are players who could take missions from the mission tab without talking to Non-player characters.
After ten minutes, it was finally their turn. A girl behind the desk asked the hooded man that conceals its identity:
“Good afternoon, how may I help you?”
“Uhm, we're planning on creating a guild, what is the process?”
“Creating a guild? Uhm, you need to pay for the registration fee first and fill-up the necessary information here.”
The receptionist handed him a piece of paper that seems to be the registration form.
After taking a look at the paper, the hooded man asked another question.
“How much is the registration fee?”
“It depends on the number of members that you will have on the guild. How many are you?”
“We have twelve members but only three of us are here since they are busy on something.”
“I see, if it is twelve members then that would be five small silver coins.”
Telling him the price, the hooded man began to rummage on his pockets to get five small silver coins and thumped them onto the desk.
“I received five small silver coins, please fill up the information sheet on the paper I gave you, and once you’re done please line-up again so I can process your registration.”
“I see,”
Before leaving the desk, the hooded man asked an important question.
“When we create a guild, does that automatically make us adventurers?”
“Yes sir, once you’ve created a guild then you will be automatically an adventurer. Please see the flyers posted on the bulletin board for more information.”
“I see, thank you.”
The hooded man left and sat on the table where the two hooded friends of his were waiting. He pulled out the registration sheet and placed it on the desk.
“Guys, I need your name and class.”
With a ballpen ready, the hooded man waits for an answer.
“Manuel Fernandez, Destroyer Class.”
“Jericho Reyes, Avalanche Class.”
“And me, Jasper Ramos, Duelist Class. And as for the rest, I will list them up here....and done.”
Completing the registration sheet, the hooded man who appears to be Jasper walked to the line of people.
Minutes later, it was his turn.
Jasper handed the piece of paper onto the desk and the receptionist grabbed it and had a look.
Reading the registration form...her eyes widened. She kept looking at Jasper and back to the registration form as if she had some doubts.
Concerned about this, Jasper asked the receptionist if there is some problem but the receptionist shook her head indicating that there is not.
The Receptionist leaned over to have a closer look at his face, but Jasper averted it, making it hard for her to see his face.
“Ma’am, it would be better if we don’t attract attention here. The king advises that we should apply for guild discreetly so if you don’t mind…”
Hearing his reason, the receptionist became startled and returned to her seat with an apologetic expression.
“I’m sorry sir, I just can’t believe that you’re from the Surrender at 20, the guild who fought in the mock battle arranged by His Majesty, I must say that every one of you is strong.”
“Thank you.”
“But we didn’t get to see sir Inigo in action.”
Hearing that, Jasper lowered his head even more...The matter concerning Inigo is utmost secrecy, he is a Saint Class that has a miracle skill that alters life and death in the game if they were to see that. Problems will befall upon them.
For the rest of the class in Surrender at 20 is okay since they are battle-oriented but except for Inigo.
His power is said to be the God who can cure wounds instantly.
“Maybe he wants to show off but wasn't able to because Jon ended it inadvertently.”
“I see, sir Jon is strong as well…”
Talking for more than a minute, the process of registration has been completed. The receptionist gave him a receipt that shows the proof that they have established a new guild in town.
“If you want to take missions right now, there are subjugations quest over there, don’t worry about the rank limitations since I’ve seen your powers anyway.”
“Is that so...hehe” Jasper let out a forced smile followed by a force chuckled as he rubbed his head in praise. He walked forward to the bulletin board full of anticipation. At last, they can experience the reality of adventuring.
However…
Once he arrived at the bulletin board, he saw papers in an alien language.
He can’t read it…
Though there are people around him that he could ask but that would be too embarrassing for him and his pride.
So he snatched one paper from it and suddenly, all the adventurers around him looked at him like crazy.
This startled him first but he ignored it and proceeded to the receptionist again.
“I would like to take this mission please.”
He said with brimming confidence to the receptionist however, when she took a peek at the paper handed by Jasper, her eyes widened again in shock.
“Uhm...you really went on the hardcore quest on your first quest sir…”
“Eh? I’m sorry…” He leaned forward and beckoned her with a finger to lean closer.
“I can’t read.” He whispered.
“Ehhhh??”
It was an obvious reaction. Jasper donning his early twenties avatar who can’t read is truly embarrassing. But the receptionist didn’t mind it, she was just shocked at first. So she began explaining the mission.
“Ahh...that’s why the adventurers around me are looking at me like that.”
The mission that he just picked up is the subjugation of an A-Class monster that looks deep in the forest of Bethia. She said that Orichalcum class and above commonly take this quest. The adventurers didn’t know him at first so that’s why they were surprised when he suddenly took that quest.
“Uhm sir, once you defeat this, you will be ranked up immediately as long as you bring the proof like its horns, skin, hoof, et cetera.”
She added. So that’s how the ranking system works huh? Once you completed a high-ranking quest you’ll be ranked up faster but most adventurers will not take that suicide quest just so they can rank up. They value their lives more than the pay raise.
“Are you going to take this quest, sir?”
“Of course, count me in.”
The receptionist immediately stamped the paper, marking that it was now taken.
Jasper gathered his teammates and debriefed them about the mission and minutes later, they left the guildhall to visit the forest where the A-class monsters lurk.
