CHAPTER 5

1177 Words
Brianna's POV I was standing in the middle of the living room where my parents, Garth's parents, and Garth himself were present. They were discussing something that I definitely didn't want to hear. With each second my anger was boiling, and wanted to walk away as far as possible. “Where have you been, Bri?” asked Brandon, my brother. He walked closer to me. He was indeed my brother who loved me very much. But unfortunately this time I didn't feel like answering his question because my sharp eyes were still on Garth, who was currently wearing a flat face like an ice sculpture. "Whatever your agreement is, it's your business. Don't ever involve me in it!” I said sternly, my voice like a razor that tore through the silence. Garth turned to me with a surprised face for a moment, but before long I heard him chuckle. His voice was like the clanging of iron that made my ears hurt. He walked over to me and then walked around my body like a hawk circling its prey. "Wow! Looks like the brat girl is throwing tantrums again. As expected-" “Enough!” I shrieked loudly, then I stared intently at my ex-lover. "I'm no longer your girl like you said and you have no right to say anything to me. Since yesterday we're just strangers." My parents and my brother stared at me in disbelief. Being the youngest child of the family, I was showered with lots of love and pampering, and that made them think that I was a weak girl who would easily fall down if things didn't go my way. They looked at me as if I had suddenly transformed into someone else, metamorphosed from a caterpillar into a butterfly ready to fly free. Ivone Lawson, my mom, approached me. "Brianna, I understand that you are hurt by Garth but he is the best choice for you. It's not his fault that he had an affair with your friend but it's your friend who has influenced him and deceived you.” I turned to my mom with a chuckle, as if there was no hurt at all in my heart because of Garth's betrayal of me last night. "Do I look like a blind to you?” I asked, then I rolled my eyes at Garth who was standing quite close to me. ”He is not a child who easily got influenced to cheat. A man like him is like a dog who only wail his tail wherever he sees his profit." “How dare you insult my son? Do you think any family would accept a girl like you? God knows with whom you spent a whole night and have no dignity.” Mr.Foster said, smirking evilly. He was satisfied after insulting me, and leaving no extent to pull my dignity down. “I am happy that God saved me not only from your cheater son but a downgraded family.” I shot back what he deserved. If he thinks I will be trapped in his words, and use my family's emotions for his family business then he is wrong. “Brianna, Please stop sweetheart. Don’t talk to Mr. Foster like this. He would cancel this wedding.” My mom tried to pull me away and calm down. I can’t be a weak little girl anymore. I will show the world if I can hold a finger in love then I can break those fingers when they would do wrong with me. I won’t take any abuse with me not today nor in the future. If this Foster family wants a taste of their own medicine then I will give them for sure. “Mrs. Lawson, I would raise the dowry money from 1 million to 2 million as your daughter not only insulted us yesterday but today also has no guilt and realization of her mistake. It's our son, after going through so much is still agreeing to marry her. We are saving your family name, instead of being grateful we are humiliated by her.” He said while scrunching his nose in disappointment. Oh damn girl, they are not only blaming me for his son's mistake but also asking for a dowry from my parents. I saw my family's faces they were so helpless in front of them. just because they are parents of mine. Am I so bad daughter? I won’t let my parent's hard-earned money be taken by them. “I won’t marry your son. Within a week, I will marry not your son but someone who respects me and my family.!” I yelled with all my energy. “You will regret two things, Brianna Lawson,” Garth said, his face darkening like a storm ready to destroy everything. "First for embarrassing me and my family at yesterday's event. Secondly, for making the wrong decision this morning, because I will never give you another chance." “Believe me, that I will never regret anything let alone expect you to give me a chance that I don't really want, Young Master Foster.” I was still standing upright with a big smile, like a flower blooming in a storm. “If you don’t want me to treat you more like a dog or any other animal. Then, save your self-respect and bark out of my house before I kick you out!” Garth turned his head towards his parents, who had confused looks on their faces. "Mom, Dad. Let's leave this house right now!" I saw that the faces of Garth's parents, who had previously smiled cheekily and felt victorious, now turned gloomy like a cloudy sky before rain. But they were reluctant to say the thing that made their faces change. “Brianna, Why do you refuse all this? Even though we are willing-" "No, Dad. No! Don't ever grovel before them. I am not a fragile daughter, but a lioness who can walk her own path,” I tried to reassure them, though I was feeling too exhausted from inside. I saw my mom and my dad looking at each other. It seemed like they were surprised at my attitude. I could feel their confusion piercing the air like fine needles. It was invisible, but I could feel its presence. "Come on, Mom, Dad. You have to trust me." My voice almost broke, I almost acted spoiled and sulked, but I remembered my resolve. I didn't want to be dropped a second time by anyone. I had to be strong like a rock that could withstand the storm. Brandon seemed to encourage me, the light in his eyes like a torch giving warmth in the darkness. “I know you can do it, Bri.” “Thank you,” I replied with a thin, forced smile. In my heart, I hoped that a smile would be enough to calm their doubts. I was exhausted with so many emotions swirling in my mind and to let go of my emotions I needed a drink.
