The Sunshine Days
Yaa's POV "Grandma! Grandma! Grandmaaaaa!!" Oh God, not her again, I thought as Fafa approached the house with her usual high pitched voice. I shook my head knowing she's coming to worry grandma with her discovery. And what's worse is that grandma is resting from today's work. I hate to see her in this state because I know the stress she goes through working at the castle.  Even though it is forbidden to cross the black line, that is the border between the village and the castle, Fafa and I have a hidden spot which leads to the castle. The castle's beauty is beyond imagination but the stories we hear about the castle make it look like a hunted castle with demons. "Yaaaa! You won't believe what I found today! Fafa said crushing me from behind. "Ouch let go of me or I wouldn't be alive to listen to your stupid story!"  "Take back what you just said or I swear by the ancestors I'll crush you until all your bones turn into powder!" Fafa said with anger evident in her voice, but I perfectly know she's faking it because there's no way she ever gets angry and that's my biggest disappointment in life. "I will not," I said defiantly. Within seconds she increased the hold on me, she squeezed and squeezed my shoulder as she earlier said she would. "Grandmaaaaaa!!" I'm now the one screaming because I think now Fafa truly wants to kill me for real. Grandma too cannot stand if I am gone and will come to my rescue. "Yaa, what happened to you?" Grandma appeared from the hut and Fafa released me instantly before grandma saw what she did. She cannot afford grandma's scold. "Grandma! you're finally up!" Fafa said with excitement and hugging grandma with a force that nearly threw her down.  "Careful you'll make me fall," Grandma said shaking her head. "Sit with us grandma," she said without a care as she escorted grandma to one of the stools under the tree beside me and took one stool for herself too. "You won't believe what I heard from the market square today." She proceeded anyway, typical of Fafa. "A white man came to the village this morning to see Ohene Prempeh". Grandma and I both had shocked expressions but her expression and demeanor were worst than mine. "Fafa stop lying, how can a white man cross the black line into our village?" I wanted to release the tension. "She's not lying, Fafa never lies," Grandma said sighing out as if to release some kind of burden on her shoulders. "See? I'm not lying and in fact, I can prove it to you" She went through her sack bag which she always carries around believing she'll continue getting gold pieces on the floor.  I don't blame her because we all have been told that tale and that is the reason why our land is called Gold Coast by the whites. It is believed that they came for all the gold and now there isn't any left. Fafa however believes there is more gold buried in our land since she last picked a piece by the lakeside. She has since been going around with that sack bag. A glittering brought me back from my thoughts. "What is that?" I asked amazed. "They call it a mirror, you can check your reflection in that magical thing!. What's more amazing is that Grandma can also see her reflection too and so can I!" She continued,  "They said you can check your reflection in it for only ten times before it expires. That is why I sneaked it out of my dad's room for you and grandma to check your reflections before I return it." She said excitedly. "You shouldn't have done that!" I shouted. "What if we vanish into it when we check our reflection? What if the whites come for us all?" I started blabbering. "Return it, it is not right!." I concluded. "I agree with Yaa, you must return it to where you took it." "But grand..." Fafa started but was interrupted by grandma, "No buts my dear, you mustn't argue with your elders. Just return it." Grandma finalized. I'm glad grandma took my side this time around. This crazy girl will surely put us all into trouble one day. "Okay, Grandma I will return it. I'll just drop this, I'll be back soon. Don't go to the lake without me Yaa!" She warned as she runs out of the house. ....................................... We got to the lakeside when those stupid boys started throwing stones at us. Fafa was about to turn around and give them a piece of her when I held her arm tightly to stop her from reacting and seemed to work. "Let me teach these rascals a lesson they'll never forget in their lives." She said fuming. "Just let them be, they're not worth the breath," I said to Fafa trying to calm her down. "The more reason why I should kick their asses, especially that arrogant Kofi," She said bitterly. The most daring among them slowly but confidently approached us with a smirk on his face and that is exactly when Fafa forced her arm from my hold and I let her. This guy is digging his grave, I thought silently. I wish I am allowed to scratch off that smirk he wore. "Kofi" Fafa said mentioned his name between clenched teeth when he got to us. "Do not worry as I come in peace, don't mind the stones thrown by my friends. It was meant for the outcast," pointing at me arrogantly and with the smirk still intact, "and not you." he continued calmly Arrogant jerk, I thought. He should count his days and thank grandma for making me swear an oath not to fight anyone in the village, which was quite unfortunate. And a broken oath has severe consequences that no one would wish to face. I turned and slowly headed for the lake bank to fetch water and leave here in peace. I wouldn't want to go through the hustle of reversing the curse of a broken oath. "The person you call an outcast is more of a human to me than you, you jerk. She's someone I can lay my head for, so you better warn your friends because I will forget any relation your family has with mine the next time they try anything." Fafa said in anger. "I don't think so sweetheart, it is obvious you don't understand what is going on," He said calmly with that crooked smirk. "Don't you ever call me that or that'll be the last day you will say goodbye to your front teeth! and whatever is going on in your life non of my business" She said even angrier. He just burst out laughing which I found strange. He hardly acts this way with us and that is why I suspect there is something fishy. What at all is this guy planning? I thought as I observed their exchanges. "Don't deceive yourself sweetheart because you are going to be mine soon. Let's go guys" He stopped and turned to face us "Tell your friend she better move to another village because you will no longer be friends after we get married."  ...............................................    Happy reading guys, and thank you so much for your support! See you in the next chapter.
