Onyx Graystone woke up the way he always did it was his favourite way to wake up beside his girlfriend Eliza. In Onyx's eyes she was the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on even sleeping without seeing the large blue orbs of hers she was still as stunning and Onyx couldn't help but admire her. Today was the day it was her eighteenth birthday finally the pair had been seeing each other since she was fifteen even though he was two years her senior. Onyx didn't care when he laid his eyes on the stunning blonde that was it. Eliza stirred beside him but Onyx was quick to carefully remove her from laying on his chest and get to work. He had spoilt her as he always did lavish gifts, a special breakfast, balloons and streamers he could never stop himself from spoiling her every year always getting up that extra bit early to do so. A large rose gold balloon of eighteen sat in the corner surrounded by pink, rose and silver balloons, in front of the display, sat bouquets and bags of gifts then finally on the table that sat beside the balcony doors of his room was a plate or all her favourite breakfast foods plus the honey, orange tea just the way she liked it. To say Onyx was in love and dedicated to Eliza was an understatement sometimes but he was always willing to go above and beyond for her. "Happy Birthday baby... My mate" he whispered while she still slept soundly. He never felt the mate pull before but he loved her so much he assured himself that was why he felt that way. With one more glance and one more kiss to her forehead and left her to rest. "Morning Nyx" his older brother Huntly greeted. Huntly was preparing to become the Alpha of their pack since the oldest Greystone son Colton died six years prior. All the Greystone boys were admired and respected and Colton wasn't any different dying in battle against another pack. "Morning" Onyx greeted meeting his gaze with the same silver eyes the pair shared. He held a wide smile looking like a child despite the fact he was twenty years old. "So?" Huntly questioned. "She's still asleep so when I pick her up from school I will know for certain but I tell you brother--" "So is she! Is she!" Onyx's mother Edda spoke as soon as she spotted her son. "Mother, she's asleep please" Onyx attempted to hush her and lead them away from her door "she's it, mother. I know it and when she wakes it will only confirm it" Onyx gushed. "Oh my boy I'm so happy" the small woman practically pounced on him in a hug. "Thank you" he couldn't help but chuckle. "That's great news" Huntley commented. "Thank you both. Don't tell father I want to announce it tonight at dinner" Onyx couldn't help his wide smile showing off his perfect teeth "now I have to attend training. Tell my mate I will pick her up after school" Onyx couldn't wipe the smile off his face even as he rushed out the door. Everything was going as he planned and he couldn't be more pleased. Gatlin's POV "Kil-in-cho" "Kal-on-chow" "Kal—" Gatlin huffed as she studied the word on one of her many botanical books. She wanted to make sure she knew as many plant names in Latin as she did English before she left for college in four months "why do I struggle with you so much you stubborn little word" she muttered to herself fixing the unruly head of curls in a careless bun. "Liny!" The sound of her mother's voice echoed up the stairs. Gatlin was late as usual to focus on the studies of her own she was always distracted from what was happening in the real world "Liny! You will be late!" Her mother called once again. Gatlin loved her mother but she wasn't stupid she knew the woman didn't have much patience for her anymore not since she started a new family. Perhaps Gatlin just couldn't fit into the picture-perfect life they led, she was always the odd one out. Her mother Hannah had remarried nine after her father died twelve years ago. Her stepfather Zane wasn't an awful man he just liked things a certain way and Gatlin didn't fit into that bubble. He had his perfect daughter Milla, the baby blue-eyed, a blonde curled doll who was twelve and they had another blue-eyed blonde together named Avalee who was four. Even as Gatlin walked down the stairs and looked on into the dining room, the small little room where they all sat happily eating while Hannah served them food Gatlin didn't fit in their "Liny you're finally up" her mother noticed. "Good morning, Lin" Zane greeted as he continued to focus on the phone beside his plate. Her step-sister and half-sister giggled and tossed food at one another. "I ah didn't set a place I thought you would be going to school," Hannah said glancing at the table set for four as it usually was anyway. "I am going now so it's fine" Gatlin simply shrugged it off. "Oh okay well have a nice day" Hannah gave a small smile to which Gatlin returned but their interactions were always so awkward and sometimes she wished they ignored her presence completely. "Umm... Thanks" was all she said making her way quickly to the door. "Oh, Liny. Happy birthday" Hannah suddenly said as though an afterthought. Gatlin simply gave a nod of acknowledgement before leaving. She was eighteen today and Gatlin had almost forgotten her birthday. She hadn't been looking forward to her eighteenth since she was fourteen and realised her dreams rest outside the pack so she had begged and pleaded with the moon goddess to if she even had a mate to not let him be apart of the pack. Gatlin just wanted to get this day over with and as she began her walk to school. She just hoped it all went according to her plans.
