It had been a few months now since finding out about Onyx being her mate. Trying to sleep had become an impossible task since the night after the party and by the time it reached five in the morning Gatlin simply would give up. She looked like a walking corpse when she stepped into school, she suddenly became thankful she didn't have friends to tell her how horrible she looked and hearing the whispers in the hallway Gatlin chose to ignore everything after all she had a task at hand. A meeting with the Alpha to finally give her desperate plea for graduating since the courses she wished to take began in only a few months. On her way in Gatlin gave the receptionist in the front office a smile before making her way to the back room. The Alpha had many jobs in the pack one of which was acting as principal of the school. "Alpha" Gatlin politely knocked on the door. "Please come in" his deep voice bellowed. Opening the door it was eerie to walk in and see a man that looked so similar to her estranged mate. He had lighter and shorter hair than Onyx's neatly kept shot back and sides but still, the features were uncanny "Hello Gatlin, how are you today?" He greeted her as soon as she opened the door. "Oh good, Alpha. Thank you" she gave a polite smile as she entered the room closing the door behind her. "Please, sit. What is this about? Is everything alright?" he seemed concerned but he had always been a dedicated and caring Alpha. "I wanted to talk about my graduating and my moving. My college studies continue up north and I was hoping to start sooner and graduate by the end of the month?" Gatlin was practically pleading. "You want to leave that soon? Is everything alright, Gatlin?" his eyebrows furrowed as that look of concern remained on his face. "Everything is fine, Alpha" she gave another smile hoping he would buy it, after all, how could she tell such a sweet man that she didn't want to stay in his pack because she didn't feel like she belonged in it "I just really want to get started on my studies." "I see... Well, let's look over your file" Maxon stood up making his way to a cabinet by the wall. He began rifling through the papers until finally pulling out a large file and making his way back to the desk. "I only have to complete my final exam in Lycanthrope history otherwise all my assignments are complete" Gatlin explained as he went through her file. "Gatlin, I do not see why you couldn't graduate earlier but with your grades in warrior training... You would be looking at the original graduation date" Alpha Maxon explained but sighed when the obvious disappointment was on her face "but I can offer you another way if you want to finish up within the month." "Really? Yes of course!" she practically bounced out of her seat. "My offer is you would have to move into the training camp, you can finish your final exam from there but you will be living with the warriors and training every day. Your grades aren't terrible so you only need a bit more training but otherwise, it is all I can offer if you want to leave so soon" Alpha Maxon explained as he crossed his muscular forearms and rested them on the desk. "I will take it, Alpha Maxon thank you!" she smiled wide at the news Gatlin had dreams and studying to become a botanist was one of them. Gatlin practically jumped from her seat and gathered up her bag. "That's wonderful! I will organise it then. Finish off today and tomorrow for school before we send you over. Don't forget you will need to pack some of your items to live over in the camp... You will be happy especially with the new trainer... With my son now taken over as head warrior, he will be training the warriors now. You're in good hands" her smile threatened to fall once he said that. Though how she had been so clueless not to think Onyx would be training the warriors now is a question. Maxon must have noticed the change as he asked:" Is everything alright?" "Um... Yes, everything is fine" she could feel the corner of her lips twitching as she struggled to smile. "Very well, thank you for coming in, Gatlin. Best of luck with training and don't forget to talk to Edda, she hasn't stopped talking about seeing you since the party she would love your company" Gatlin slowly nodded as she edged for the doorway not stuck in thought. "Of course, Alpha. Thank you" she replied before scurrying out of the office she didn't stop till she got to the empty hallway and just beside the office door she leaned back on the locker-filled wall and sighed. Her head fell back against the cold metal. The promise they would stay away from one another has worked so well these past few months she hadn't even seen him but now suddenly seemed impossible and she was filled with worry and dread. "Gatlin" she heard her name being called before quickly looking around and seeing Arro approaching. "What are you doing here?" She questioned once he stopped next to her. "What no comment on me not surprising you? I thought I was making progress" he pouted for a moment before flashing a smirk "I have to see the Alpha“ "Oh... Heading back to your pack then” Gatlin said her gaze turning back to the plain white ceiling. "What's wrong?" He asked leaning a large shoulder onto the locker beside her. Towering over her shorter frame. "I get to graduate earlier just like I wanted—" "That's great... What's the problem then?" Arro seemed a little confused. "Because in order the graduate by the end of the month I have to go out to training camp..." her gaze finally turning to the tall blue-eyed boy beside her "which is now run by Onyx..." "s**t" Arro muttered before smiling once again "don't you worry your pretty little head." She couldn't help but raise a brow at his comment "Why?... It has been easy enough to avoid him now it will be impossible..." she groaned "the pull would have been stronger and stronger. More distance between us the better" it went silent for a moment before Arro straightened himself up fixing the neatly shaped leather jacket over his shoulders. "Like I said don't worry cause your new best friend is going to be training with you—" "My new best friend?" She was more confused at the statement. "Me, I'm talking about me" he rolled his eyes. His odd behaviour was enough to make her want to laugh "my father wants me to train here for the next year to be prepared more for when I take over so over the next month while you're here, Gatlin. I got your back."
