Chapter Three: Morning Rush

806 Words
Lena woke to the soft hum of her alarm, the early morning light filtering through the curtains. She stretched and sat up, a sense of determination settling over her. Today was a new day, and she had work to do. As a detective, her appearance was part of her persona. Stylish yet practical, she always made sure to look clean and well-maintained, a reflection of her sharp mind and attention to detail. She chose a tailored suit in charcoal grey, the color complementing her icy blue eyes. After a final glance in the mirror, Lena pulled her almost white, straight, and silky hair into a polished high ponytail. She finished the look with a pair of stylish yet practical heels. She grabbed her purse from the kitchen counter, opting for the taxi today instead of her motorcycle. The city streets were unpredictable, and she needed to be focused. Living in one of the tallest apartment buildings in the city had its perks. As a wercat, Lena loved heights, the sense of freedom and perspective they offered. She took the elevator down, her mind already on the day ahead. Stepping outside, Lena hailed a taxi, her phone buzzing in her purse. She answered it, hearing the familiar voice of her boss, Jerry, on the other end. “Morning, Lena,” Jerry said. “We’ve got some new leads on your case. I need you to work closely with Detective Alex on this one. He’s already at the office.” “Got it, Jerry,” Lena replied, signaling the driver to hurry. “I’ll be there soon.” Despite her efforts, the taxi seemed to hit every red light in the city. Lena tapped her fingers impatiently on her knee, her mind racing with thoughts of the case. By the time they finally pulled up in front of the old marble building that housed the detective agency, Lena was more than ready to get started. She paid the driver and stepped out, her eyes immediately finding Alex standing out front with two cups of coffee. Alex was handsome, with a chiseled jawline, warm brown eyes, and an athletic build that hinted at his dedication to fitness. His mixed heritage gave his features a unique and striking appeal, and he always had an air of confidence about him. As Alex saw Lena step out of the taxi, his heart skipped a beat. She always looked incredible, but today there was something different. Maybe it was the way her suit highlighted her eyes, or the way her hair caught the light in her polished high ponytail. He admired her from afar, trying to compose himself. Alex had always had a crush on Lena, and if they didn’t work together, he might have mustered the courage to ask her out by now. “Morning, Lena,” Alex greeted her with a smile, handing her one of the coffees. “Thought you might need this.” “Thanks, Alex,” Lena replied, taking the cup gratefully. “You read my mind.” As they walked into the building together, Alex couldn’t help but steal glances at her. He admired her determination, her grace, and the way she carried herself with such confidence. Despite the challenges ahead, Alex knew he would always be there to support her. He was not only a talented detective but also a loyal friend, always ready to lend a helping hand. “Jerry mentioned some new leads,” Lena said, taking a sip of her coffee. “What’s the latest?” Alex nodded, his expression turning serious. “We’ve got a few new suspects and some fresh evidence to go through. It’s going to be a long day, but I think we’re getting closer.” Lena felt a spark of hope. “Good. Let’s get to work.” As they entered the office, Alex couldn’t help but feel a renewed sense of determination. He had always admired Lena’s dedication to her work, and he wanted to be there to support her in any way he could. Even if he couldn’t express his feelings directly, working closely with her on this case was enough for now. Together, they stepped into the office, ready to tackle whatever the day had in store. With Alex by her side, Lena felt a renewed sense of determination. They were a team, and nothing could stop them from uncovering the truth. The familiar hum of the office buzzed around them as they prepared to dive into the new leads, the scent of fresh coffee mingling with the anticipation of the day’s work. Alex set his coffee down on his desk, his mind already racing through the possibilities. He glanced over at Lena, who was reviewing the files Jerry had left on her desk. He couldn’t help but smile, knowing they were in this together.
