I fluttered my eyes open nearly at the same time as the pitter-patter of the rain falling on my window pane.
I reached for the blanket that was on my waist and grabbed it to cover myself from the cold. Slightly opening my eyes, I look at the digital clock on my bedside table.
10:54 am
...Hm?
Did I oversleep?
I found it unusual.
I have daily nightmares but I was able to sleep like a log today. I wasn't even disturbed by the sound coming from the now heavying rain.
The rumbling sound of the thunder made it even harder for me to keep my eyes open and lift myself out of bed.
Bit by bit, I adapted my sight to my surroundings and got up slowly.
My attention went to the whole-length mirror that was just beside my bedroom door. Noticing that I was still wearing the red off-shoulder dress I wore last night, I walked to the horizontal wooden dresser and grabbed some change clothes.
Speaking of dinner, I remember having this chat with Zeke last night then the next thing I know, I am fighting the urge to doze off.
The question is...why am I already on my bed?
It wasn't too long before I realised something in my head.
So Zeke carried me here...
I blushed and a brief chuckle escaped from my lips. I was happy with the idea that not only I am the pack's Luna but also the fact that I am his.
The moment I came down from the stairs, I cooked some sunny side up and paired it up with a toast. I also prepared some packed lunch for Zeke and pancakes for Yvonne since I was gonna go check up on her and talk about Raul.
I quickly glanced outside the window and noticed that the rain was still pouring hard. I carefully placed the packed lunch and pancakes in a plastic bag and took one umbrella from the rack near the doorway.
I opened the door and went outside to the rocky pathway.
My house was quite far from where the other members of the pack were living. It was for safeguarding Zeke, their alpha, from anyone who'll attempt to take his life and because I'm their luna, It was also for my sake.
“I have to be careful not to spill it." I glanced at the plastic bag, holding it even tighter.
When I caught a glimpse of the familiar neighbourhood, I hastened my steps.
Taking a few more turns, I finally passed the thicket of trees that surrounded the route before. I walked a little more before reaching the first queue of houses.
Instead of my usual cheerful demeanour, I was left stunned on my feet. My whole being was frozen.
My fingers suddenly lose their strength, making my grip on the bag weaker. The bag plunges straight into the floor causing wasted food to scatter around my feet.
At that exact moment, my senses were all focused on the scene before me.
Blood.
Dead bodies.
Stains of different hues of red were visible on the once-dry cement. The stench of rotting corpses of children, men and women alike sully the place that once came from these people's vim smiles and their lenient lives.
"AHHH!!!" I shrieked. My knees grew weak and my whole body dropped from shock. Feeling the intolerable pain, I started shaking and clasping my hair, denying what I was seeing.
Dead.
They're dead.
They're dead!
Those sentences echoed repeatedly in my head. Every realization broke me.
Frustration.
Grief.
Rage.
It felt as if my emotions were on the brink of exploding, like a timed bomb that was about to go off.
Throbbed with an intense pain, I held my head hard. Flickering images and distant voices from my past flitted through my mind, like ghostly apparitions.
They seemed to be mocking me, showing me the same scenes of death and decay. Compared to multiple bodies before, it turned into two corpses instead.
The sensation was overwhelming, and I felt myself slipping into a dark, murky abyss.
"Mother! Father!" I weep uncontrollably, shaking the cold remains of my parents.
I waited for some signs that they were still breathing and alive. Though I was taught to act tough, I was still a mere child. I wanted someone to tell me that everything was gonna be alright, that this was all just a very bad dream.
An unknown man eventually approached from behind me. Suddenly feeling the shiver from my back, I slowly turn around.
His large hand landed on my head. It was unpleasing, especially coming from the terrifying presence in front of me.
“Shh..Shh..They're just gonna sleep for a very long time. "
His face looked fuzzy but his sinister grin was lucid enough to make me tremble with fear. He moved his hand and tucked a strand behind my ear.
“Don't worry. You will meet your parents...soon." His body horrifyingly changed to that of a wolf before he abruptly lifted his arm to swing at me—
“Ack!" I gagged, snapping myself back to reality.
Recalling my parents and their deaths made my condition worse than before. I was not strong enough to handle what I just remembered.
Yet again, I was robbed of love and family.
Despite the heaviness that I felt, there was still another person I kept on remembering.
Zeke.
I wobbly walked towards the remains of my pack. They were the people that I'd sworn to protect but now, they were just lifeless bodies I failed to save.
The rain continued to wash their blood, clearing any traces that they'd been massacred.
A couple who were in their wolf form caught my eye. Their furs' resemble two people who I knew very well. It seems like the man was protecting her from the ones who were hurting them.
I step closer, reaching out my trembling hand. A few heartbreaking words have then escaped from my mouth.
"Raul... Y-Yvonne.." After I realized that it was them, I instantly embraced them as tightly as I could. I wailed from the misery that I'll never see or hear their voices ever again.
While pulling their bodies apart from each other, I called out another name. “J-June..."
He was not there.
I tried to look around but there were still no signs of June.
I continued my tracks not knowing where to go or where to look. My spirit's draining at every step, wondering If I'm just looking to witness June's or Zeke's lifeless body.
Without me noticing, I was already in the pack's usual meeting place for the alpha and his close aides.
Even before I could come inside. My sight was already fixed with the red-like liquid that was on the floor. Even if I have a bad feeling, I can't help but follow where it came from.
The door from the office was open, presumably stuck because of something.
I covered my mouth as I saw the disfigured bodies of some werewolves from the main pack's fight force. Including the one I fought from last time.
I hate myself for being relieved thinking there might've been a chance he could be alive since they might've been guarding him.
I was going to turn around and go back when I saw a glimpse of a hand. There was another person just below the front side of the roundabout table.
The sound of my steps seemed to resonate from every corner of the room as I got closer to the body.
The pupils in my eyes shook when I saw the familiar clothes on the corpse. From his shoes, and jeans up to his upper garments, it was the same ones that Zeke was wearing last night.
I almost couldn't see his face. It was starting to be unrecognizable because of the huge claw wound on his face.
“I need you to take it slowly. We still need to become the strongest to make our pack powerful one day. I need you to stay put and be safe until then."
“Sorry, Did I hurt you?"
“I know I shouldn't overthink things, but you can't blame me. I just saw you collapsed like that."
“I always thought every night with you was special."
I didn't shed a tear nor speak a word. I was just there stiffed at my position.
My field of vision was fixed on the man I love lying in cold blood.
The cold air didn't affect me one bit even if I was drenched from the rain before. The longer I gazed at his lifeless body, the more I was certain of one thing.
I lost everything.
I lost him.
I don't know how long it passed but I hadn't moved from my spot. I just paced out for a long time.
Feeling an increasing tingling sensation, I noticed my condition improving and my sense heightening. My sight, touch, hearing, and smell were sceptically better than before.
I began to quiver at the upcoming footsteps by the doorway. His presence was still far but his scent still reached me. It was unbelievably intoxicated. It starts to stir and wreak havoc on my insides.
“Who are you?" His voice undoubtedly affects me.
Without noticing anything, my eyes started changing colour. It transitions close to the same pair of eyes that had just fallen on me.
Mate. "Mate."
