SHORT-LIVED EXCITEMENT
ADELINE
Wow! I'm finally eighteen. Oh goodness, I can't wait to meet my mate and immediately move in with him.
For a year now, I've been fantasizing about my mate and I can picture him to be a great and caring man. Ah, I can't wait to meet him and finally move out of this hell hole called the Pack house.
I'm sure you're all wondering who I am...
Well, I am Adeline Careen Maxwell, an Omega in the West Ring Pack whose parents died over a year ago in a fire accident at our house.
Before their death, mom and dad weren't well up though they used to work their asses out at the Pack house, helping out with chores such as delivery services and all that.
Mom worked as a maid and a cook while dad helped in the farm and other Pack House errands. After school, I'd join mom there and she'd teach me a lot of stuff including cooking, washing utensils, washing clothes, cleaning the house and all that.
They both did their best to provide for me since I was their only child. My parents really loved me from the bottom of their hearts!
The Luna and the Alpha were kind to my parents all through but their son Jaxon was a beast and a bully, always finding reasons to insult my parents and I. Well, his parents did their best to ensure he stopped that habit but he just couldn't.
On the other hand, Vanessa was a cool princess, and on many occasions, she would defend us whenever Jaxon proved ruthless. How I wish he was the one who died in that accident instead of his mother and sister!
Luna Daisy was a kind woman who used to buy my parents and I clothes and other foodstuffs. It is quite unfortunate that a careless trailer driver rammed into their car, killing her and Vanessa as well as their driver and two guards as they traveled to the city for Vanessa's admission to college.
They passed away a few weeks after my parents perished in that fire accident one Sunday night while I was in the Pack house with Vanessa and other Pack girls.
To be sincere, I mourned my parents the best way I could and since I had already cleared high school, I had no one to take me to college therefore I spoke to the Luna who in return spoke to her mate and they allowed me to move into the Pack House and help in house chores. Sadly, the Luna and her daughter passed away a few weeks after moving into their house!

I was barely seventeen when I graduated from high school and now that I am eighteen, I'm longing and yearning to meet my mate.
The Pack House is a beehive of activities since later in the afternoon, there will be a mate searching party for the girls and boys who are already eighteen.
I am eager, as well as happy, praying to the moon goddess for a great mate who will take good care of me and also take me away from the hands of Jaxon. He has been an asshole, always finding fault in my job and scolding me at any slight provocation. He sometimes pulls and pushes me, and whenever I'm on his way, he shoves me hard, making me to fall on the hard concrete and sometimes hurting me.
I sometimes cry so hard, calling upon my mom and dad to come and save me and Jaxon just laughs hysterically, and I'm beginning to think he derives pleasure in seeing me in pain.
His father, Alpha Waylon Hunter has warned him several times to stop mistreating me but he can't just stop. He always mistreats me whenever the Alpha is not around.
Alpha Waylon Hunter is a kind Alpha in his early forties. He was quite devastated when his mate and daughter passed away, such that he almost died of depression but with the help of some therapists, he eventually overcame everything and he's now in a better place, running this Pack as if his life depends on it... well, it sure does.
Together with other Pack leaders, he has refused to hand the Alpha's leadership to his son Jaxon because he couldn't get himself a mate at eighteen. He's already nineteen and without a mate and to be sincere, he seems less bothered. All he derives pleasure in his hurting and torturing me instead of spending his time in other Packs looking for his mate!
"You lazy bone, why haven't you ironed my suit?" Jaxon asks from behind me. I'm in the kitchen helping the cook to prepare some salad for the event.
"I'm not your damn maid!" I reply after looking around to ensure that no one is listening since the cook has left to the store to get more ingredients for the food.
"You work for this Pack House and ironing my clothes is one of your chores!" Jaxon roars as he walks closer to me.
"Don't get ahead of yourself Jaxon, I'm leaving this hell hole today in the evening after meeting my mate!" I reply, not bothering to look at him. I'm sure the cook is almost back and Jaxon can't harm me in her presence.
"You daughter of a b***h!" He says amid clenched teeth. "Don't raise your hopes too much, you might be stuck with me in this Pack House forever and without a damn mate!" He says with a lot of bile in his tongue. Gosh, why all this bitterness? Well, I wish I took his words to heart and meditated on them!
"May the goddess forbid!" I reply. "You're the only one who will remain single for life, bringing different whores to your father's house instead of concentrating on searching for a mate so as to extend your father's generation!" I scoff, bitterly.
"Shut your dirty m—"
"Jaxon, you're here!" The Pack House cook calls from the door. She's back from the store with a basket full of stuff.
"I was just leaving." Jaxon says, but I can tell that he's angry. Well, my words have gotten to him and I'm sure this is not the end. Well, I'm ready for him!
I heave a heavy sigh of relief and then concentrate back on my chores.
Cook Debra places the basket of shopping on the kitchen counter and then comes to see how far I am with the salad.
"Was he bothering you?" She asks, almost in a whisper.
"Yes." I nod. "But I put him in his place. I only answer to his father the Alpha, not him!" I respond boldly.
"It's okay my child." Debra who's old enough to be my mom says while patting my back. "Just be careful, okay? Jaxon can be a beast and I don't want anything to happen to you." She says lovingly.
Debra and my mother were inseparable that's why she cares so much about me. She has a daughter around my age but she's in college in a nearby town.
"It's okay Debra. But I'm just tired of his constant mistreatments." I say with a big sigh. "I just pray this stops tonight after meeting my mate." I add hopefully.
"It's okay dear, you'll meet a loving and caring man today and he will take you to his home and treat you like the princess that you are." Debra assures me and I smile, going back to my business. I can't stop praying for the best mate ever!

At around noon, guests from other Packs start arriving and also girls and boys from our Pack join them at the banquet hall for the most anticipated ceremony.
As for the Pack House maids who haven't met their mates and I, we'll be serving the food and also drinks and to everyone, at the same time watching out for our luck. No one is limited therefore all of us are mandated to search for their mates.
"Adeline, do you think we're going to be lucky today?" Pamela, another Pack House maid asks me as we serve the drinks.
"I'm positive, Pam. Just be patient and your mate will come your way, as well as mine." I say, donning a big smile. The positivity in my heart is out of this world.
"I pray so dear. I sincerely do!" Pam says, doubt laced in her speech. Ah, I hate it when someone sounds so negative instead of encouraging me!
"If you doubt that you'll meet your mate, then we're not on the same lane. I'm confident that I'm meeting mine today and I've already packed my bags ready to leave with him immediately he shows up!" I say confidently, smiling as usual.
"I'm poaching for you Adeline and I hope you meet the greatest man of all!" Alpha Waylon Hunter says from behind us, startling the both of us.
"Th-thank you Alpha." I say while trembling. He has always been kind to me but I'm now ashamed that he has found me speaking desperately about meeting my mate.
"I just came for a Martini and check up on all of you here. Once again, good luck to both of you, girls." He adds genuinely as he picks a glass of Martini from the tray and then walks away while smiling broadly. For the first time since I met him, I suddenly think he's handsome and I wish he was my age mate!
Smiling, I brush those thoughts off my head and then continue serving the drinks to everyone as I watch girls and boys getting lucky by meeting their mates.
