Chapter 3: Pressure

597 Words
I pack the food in containers, just like how Inaya showed me. I clear the kitchen and I throw myself on the bed to cry my eyes out. I stare at the roof for the reminder of the night, but grateful that Inaya didn’t check up on me, and I did not get to see Wyatt Henderson. After all, he told me to leave. I wince at the thought of my trembling hands on his chest, and my rapid blinking. The moment I saw him, I forgot all about the videos that I watched last night, and that eyelash that found it's way into my eye made things more worse. Then his words about ruining lives ring in my ear. My breath becomes rapid, as I realize that I didn’t even think things through. What did I think would happen after the kiss? How do I make him fall in love with me? Me? But the kiss was the best, and I have been missing out due to my fear. I close my eyes, and I relive the moment his hands were on my waist, his soft lips on mine, and the scent of his cologne! I quickly shake my head, then the knock on the door makes me stiffen. “Zara, may I come in?” “Of cause, Advocate Pearson.” “No, when we are not at work. I’m Mrs Henderson, and not for long, I hope. Tell me the good news.” She gives me a tight smile. I grimace, at the thought that I'm lying to her. I have try to find out if she is fishing for information, because she knows about our heated kiss, or she doesn’t know what happened between us. “There is no news yet.” I avoid eye contact. Why do I feel guilty? This is what she told me to do, but somehow the kiss felt like a private moment. “That's okay. It was your first attempt. I have to go." For the next few days, I wake up before anybody gets up, and I go to work early in order to avoid him. Every time I have to open any door, I listen for footsteps. I wonder if he knows I’m in the house and avoiding him, or he enjoys it when I’m afraid of him. Nalo laughs at me every time he picks me up and drops me off. I barely see Inaya at work because of her back-to-back meetings. On a weekend, Inaya comes to my room. She claims to be going to a function somewhere. “I have been looking at the security cameras, hoping to see some action, but there isn’t any.” “Did someone break your security cameras?” I ask with so much hope within me. She should never see that kiss. “How could you fail? Is seducing someone that difficult?” She says impatiently. “No.” “Then will you be able to do it, or should I find someone else?” She raises her eyebrows. Those eyebrows! I don’t think anyone would mind if I shaved them off in her sleep. She knows that she is intimidating when she does that. “I will be able to do it.” “I don’t have the whole year. Convince him that you are worth it. Show him with your actions.” I nod. “I’m glad we are on the same page. I expect excellent results. Make him notice you. Instead of spending hours cooked up in this room. See you later.”
