Chapter 4 - Getting ready

1039 Words
We were having so much fun when I looked at my watch and realized that it was almost 3 pm. "Aaahhh" I said, "my parents are going to kill me!" "So are ours" said Lucy. All 3 of us quickly started running back home as fast as we could. "See you guys later!" I shouted at them as they dashed up the path toward their house. As I was running I heard whispers again but didn't stop to hear what they were saying, I was going to be late and my mother was going to have a freak out session. "Lucy! Where have you been?" My father asked quite annoyed as I walked in by the door. "And what on earth have you been doing? You are covered in dirt!" Exclaimed my mother. "I was playing in the park" I told them. "Well hurry up and go get showered so we can get you more presentable" said my mother. "Yes mother dearest" was my cocky response... I undressed myself and climbed into the shower, making sure to take my time as I didn't really want to go to the meeting but thanks to my parents, I had no choice. I washed all the dirt out of my hair, it was full of flowers, twigs, grass and mud. Ahh the good old days I thought to myself. Next I washed my body until I was all squeaky clean as I knew my mother would do an inspection to make sure that I was clean. I got out of the shower, turned the tap off and wrapped my towel around me. "In our room" said my mother from outside the door. I shuffled my feet toward their bedroom and my mother told me to sit by her dressing table so she could prepare me. "Dad, help!" I yelled for my father in the lounge as my mother started brushing all the knots out of my long hair. "Sorry peanut, this time you on your own!" He yelled back with a chuckle. My mother dried my hair and put weaves into it, finally tying it off with a small ponytail. "It's too tight" I told my mother while reaching my hand back to undo the ponytail. "Leave it alone, you'll get used to it" said my mother while slapping my hand away. "Now put on that dress" she said pointing to her bed. I stood up and walked over to her bed, there lay a beautiful blue dress almost matching my eye color on the bed. It had long sleeves with lace on all the ends, pretty white small quarts stones lined the front of the dress and there was a pair of blue high heel shoes to match with it. "I love the dress" I told my mother. "But isn't it just a little too outgoing for tonight?" "Just put it on" my mother said with a stern voice this time. "Fine" I said as I rolled my eyes. "Rolling those eyes of yours are going to get you into a lot of trouble one day missy" said my mother. I ignored her comment and got dressed then sat back down so that my mother could do my make up for me. "Hold still" said my mother with a bit of a laugh. "I can't, it's ticklish" I said as my mother tried to put mascara on my eyes. She finished me off with a bit of blue eye shadow to make my eyes pop and she put red lipstick on me then stood back and looked at me while holding her hands on the sides of her mouth. "You look absolutely beautiful" she said smiling. I turned around and looked in the mirror. "Wow, I look different" I said while taking every part of my new reflection in. I walked out of their bedroom while holding my new dress off of the floor. "Wow!" Exclaimed my father. "Is that my little peanut?" "Not so little anymore" responded my mother still smiling. "The cart should be here any second" my father said as he escorted me toward the front door. "We are going by horse?" I asked. "Yes, the alpha has horse carts picking everybody up" said my father. "Oh wonderful" I said sarcastically. "Now we are all going to smell like horse farts by the time we arrive there". Both my parents laughed at my response as the cart pulled up next to us. We got into the cart and I gave the man a strange look that was driving the cart. He seemed all sweaty, like he was nervous, maybe even scared as we started pulling away. I saw Max and Lucy along with their parents infront of us and I wanted to shout to greet them but my mother stopped me. "Behave yourself like a proper young lady" she said very quietly. "Whatever" was my response as I turned to look at all the houses that we were going past. "Qqqqqqqiiiiiikkkk, ssssshhhhh, rrrrrnrnnnn" I heard whispers again just as we were pulling into the courtyard of central square. I turned to my mother and asked her, "did you say something?" "No dear, I didnt" she said. Very strange I thought to myself. Is it only me that's hearing the whispers? We started walking to central square and that was where all the singles, including newly graduated high school students were split up into different groups. "I'll see you afterwards" said my mother to me as they were called one side. I looked for Lucy and Max in the crowd but I couldn't see them, it was just too crowded and I started panicking. I didn't like big crowds, it made me feel dizzy and I wanted to collapse... "Gotcha" said Max just before I fell over. "Are you oky?" asked Lucy with concern in her voice. "I'm fine now" I told them. "I was looking for you guys but couldn't find you inbetween all the other people". "Good thing we found you" said Max with a wink. Suddenly everybody went silent and their eyes looked forward toward the stage. I turned around very slowly and saw that the alphas' beta was standing on the stage ready to speak...
