Chapter 1 - Meet the twins
Chapter 01 Meet the twins 3rd Person’s Point of View Veronica ran as fast as she could, blood dripping from her body. Gun shots firing nearby that made her heart skipped a beat. She rambled through the bushes, the sound of dried leaves crunching and cold breeze blowing to her face… each step she takes was heavy as a metal. “You can’t die… not today.” She whispered as she stopped… finally reaching her destination In the middle of the woods near a lake was an abandon house… she clearly remembers the place that she used to play with her sister… like it was yesterday… but today this place would be her safe place. The door creaked and the it was covered with thick dust, as she walks along, she left a trail of blood… she couldn’t care less about the dirt as she opens her bag. She was supposed to escape but instead she’s putting up a temporary place she could stay. The pain grew even more as she settled herself in the corner with only a blanket underneath… the lightning as her light and the sound of storm and rain her lifeline not to get caught… but her nightmare began to progress. Veronica screams in pain as she cover her mouth with cloth. She bit it with force and determination. Sweats drip from her forehead down to her neck despite the strong wind blowing. Holding tightly to the pole near her. Blood gushing down her thighs, her eyes bloodshot as she helped herself wipe the traces of blood away… but there was no hiding what was coming out in between her. “Ahh!” Vee’s scream sent birds flying away from a near distance. “I hate this.” She recalled how she was deceived by that cruel man though she was in pain right now, nothing can surpass that kind of pain. With no medication and no one on her side as she forces herself to push, her flesh tearing apart as she bites on a cloth to hide her screams, her sweats and tears mixed together, shivering with the cold of being alone and abandoned. She screamed together with the newborn covered by her blood and sweats… she stared at it; her mind lost in thoughts. When her heart jump as it cried, she immediately looks away, not wanting to bond with it… because it was nothing but a baby and she didn’t want to be part of its life. “Your life would be better if I wasn’t your mother.” She whispered weakly. She put it down slowly as she covered it with clean cloth. It was crying while looking at her… and she found herself being drawn to it but that doesn’t mean she forgot what that man did. Veronica remembers every choice she would have done differently. Veronica was supposed to escape today before something bad would happen… but it’s happening now… she called her sister so she could tell her about her plan… but faith had other plans for her. Speaking of her sister. Someone entered the abandon house with hesitation as she follows the trail of bloods. The cry from the new born baby was all Madeline could hear. The sight of blood made her sick and weak… but mastered the courage to stay strong especially when she saw who the trail of blood lead her… it was her sister. “M-madeline.” Madeline’s eyes widen while she stares at her sister. It was a stormy night when her sister Veronica told her to meet at their old abandon house near the lake. She didn’t think much of it since the two were suckers for adventures… but this was different… this was something serious and something that the twins could get in trouble with. The wild blew Veronica’s hair that Maddie was able to see her sister’s face… she was just like looking at the mirror. Drips from the rainfall made opening her eyes harder but she could see clearly what was happening. “Vee… w-what’s this?” Veronica lying on the ground while sitting on a bloody cloth. Her arms wrapped around a thick cloth with a new born baby crying. Her cries echo with the storm and the lightning as their only source of light to see what was happening. But it was clear… so clear that the twins exactly know what will happen if their father would find out what’s happening in that moment. “H-help me. You’re the only person I could trust right now.” Veronica cried for help for the first time… she never asks for help. Maddie on the other hand doesn’t know what to do. She couldn’t grasped the scene that unfold before her eyes and now her twin sister is asking for her help… but what could she do in this moment? The thought run through her head. “W-what can I do?” She couldn’t say no… this was her sister after all. She stepped closer, legs wobbly, hands shaking, and drenched with rain. When she reached her sister she kneel down to get a good look of the baby Veronica was holding. “Is this why you told me to meet here?” Tears stream down her face as she looked at her sister with pity. “I-if… dad finds out about this.. we’re dead, Vee.” Veronica shook her head, eyes filled with determination. “He can never find out.” Vee reached out for Maddie’s hands and she slowly handed the baby to Maddie. “I was leaving and I was going to tell you… but this happen.” She wiped her tears away as she clean up. Maddie stopped and looked at her sister, her brows creasing. “You were leaving? W-why?” Vee closed her eyes intently looking down, she didn’t think of her sister when deciding that and by looking at Maddie she can tell that she was disappointed in her. “We’re sisters… Vee, you cannot just hide things from me.” Maddie paused; her mouth open as tears swells from her eyes. “You don’t trust me.” “No!” Vee tried to hold Maddie’s hands but she stepped backward, her head shaking. “Vee, I didn’t mean to… I just didn’t want you to get tangled with my mistakes. You know how dad is.” “But you were leaving… I know you don’t want to be near dad, you’ve always told me how it be nice to escape his wrath…. but what I couldn’t believe is how… you were going to abandoned me too.” Vee’s lips were tied and she couldn’t look at her sister. Both sat with the silent for a while until Maddie stepped closer, “You’re bleeding… shouldn’t we go to the hospital?” No matter how in pain she was… it was still her sister, and she couldn’t just leave her. And despite with jelly legs and sweating hands she willingly helped her sister. Veronica stood up and shook her head and she clean up the mess like she just didn’t gave birth moments ago. “No. I’m going to be fine.” “Then, what are you planning?” Maddie could hide it anymore, she’s hysterical and shaking, Vee put her hands on her shoulders. “Just trust me. Bring the baby home, hide him from everyone and I’ll sneak to the back door like I never left. I’ll figure out the rest tomorrow.” “What if dad see me?” “He won’t. Dad’s out with his… men. He won’t be home until tomorrow. Maddie didn’t had a choice but to agree with her sister despite the uneasiness that’s growing inside of her. The twin sister did their secret handshake their made when they were just little girls. “Everything will be fine, right? Everything will just the way they are.” Veronica nodded at her sister. The two shared a face but not a faith. The two shared parents but not a childhood. Madeline sees the world as sunshine and rainbows. While Veronica grew up seeing the world as cruel and dangerous. Given by their family’s influence and business Veronica knew from a young age what the their family’s power holds, and that gave her the courage and strength to grew up as rebellious and hardheaded woman… her sister on the other hand knows nothing and Veronica would like to keep it that way. “Promise?” Veronica nodded. “Promise.” The two decided to go separate ways. Veronica was first to leave taking her things with her while Maddie was left in the abandon house with the baby. She looked at it with care and couldn’t help but to touch it softly. Her breathing soften and she slowly calmed down. “You’re beautiful.” She whispered with a small tear on her eyes. Despite the unexpected event that had happen and the possible consequence her sister might face in the future she couldn’t help but to admire the baby. Veronica didn’t like children growing up, and even vowed not to get married and have children so never in a million years would Maddie think that she would witness such scene. But such calming moment was disrupted. Madeline heard a rustling sound from outside which made her heart jump. Her immediate instincts was to protect the baby. She pressed it to her chest and hide in the corner. She covered her mouth as footsteps enter the house. She closed her eyes tightly… and when the footsteps stopped she opened her eyes only to find a pair of boots in front of her. She gasped for air as she raised her head. Her mouth open as she stare at the person in front of her. “What are you doing here? And what are you holding?” She couldn’t find words while she was forced to stood up… and the only word she could utter was, “D-dad… I’m sorry,” as tears stream down her eyes.
