*CHAPTER 1: The Rejection*
The rain hammered Coldwater, Texas like God himself was trying to wash it off the map.
I stood at the edge of my family's mansion - the house I grew up in - with a trash bag containing everything I owned. My birthday was yesterday. I turned 21. Today I was homeless.
"Sign it, Jake."
My mother, Diane, held out the papers. Her hand wasn't shaking. Her eyes were cold. The same woman who used to sing me to sleep.
"You're not my son anymore. Not after what you did to Ethan."
Ethan. My perfect older brother. The golden Alpha heir.
"What did I do?" My voice cracked. My wolf - the wolf I had hidden for 3 years because my family said a second Alpha in one family was a curse - was clawing at my chest, begging to come out.
"You know exactly what you did," my father snarled from the doorway. Richard Blackwood, Alpha of the Blackwood pack, richest man in three counties. "You attacked your brother during his Alpha ceremony. You're unstable. Dangerous. A defect."
I didn't attack him. Ethan attacked ME. When he smelled my wolf for the first time. When he realized his little unemployed brother was actually stronger than him.
Grandma Rose was crying in the corner, but she said nothing. No one said anything.
My little sister, Maya, just 16, whispered, "Please don't make him leave..."
"QUIET!" My father roared.
That was it. That was the moment my wolf snapped.
I didn't sign. I dropped the pen.
"I, Jake Blackwood, reject this family," I said, my voice suddenly low, powerful, vibrating with Alpha power none of them had ever heard from me. "And I reject this pack."
The windows shattered.
My mother's face went white. My father's knees buckled for a second - he felt it. The true Alpha power.
"You'll be back in a week begging," my mother hissed, but her voice trembled now. "You have no money, no job, no wolf pack. You're nothing."
I turned and walked into the storm. Trash bag over my shoulder. Barefoot.
I had $37 in my pocket.
Three years later, they would be on their knees at MY office, begging for a contract that would save their entire empire from bankruptcy.
But that night, I was just a boy who lost everything.
Until my phone buzzed. Unknown number.

Lila. The one woman in town more dangerous and richer than my father.
