A New Beginning

Months went by and I haven’t had a dream at all or was it because I didn’t remember them when I woke up. I stopped writing about them. I went back to my job as a realtor, met new friends and went to parties sometimes. “Wait up!” I called a guy who was passing by. “You dropped this.” I showed him his credit card. I was in a grocery store from work and was about to go home when I saw a piece of plastic on the floor. “Sorry for my carelessness. Thanks.” He took the card and I nodded and walked away. “Uh hey, do you mind if I ask you out, for uh…coffee?” I turned around “What?” “I mean, is it okay if... are you free for coffee?” He covered his face with his right hand while his left harm was clutching his grocery bag. I could see him blushing. I smiled. “Are you asking me out or are you thanking me for the card?” He smiled and nodded with hesitation. "I was going to thank you for the card but I am secretly hoping you would go out with me. There, you got me." I laughed. "Sure. I know a place." So that’s when I met Christian. There was one dream which bothered me. It was dark and I was in a garden. I was standing in the middle but I couldn’t see things far away. There were flowers around me. Were they yellow roses? Probably. Then a guy in a black suit came towards me but I couldn’t see his face. He doesn’t have a face. He has dark hair, is tall and slender. He was dancing with me. I recognized his face but I knew it was blurry. That weird feeling of seeing someone familiar and yet you can't come up with a name. No eyes, nose, or lips. I wrote about it in my notebook one day. MAN WITH NO FACE FAMILIAR MAN YELLOW ROSES? DANCING That dream kept me thinking. When it was 2 months away from my wedding day, I thought maybe he was Christian. Everything I’ve written in my notebook, were those signs? I got married to Christian. A month later, we bought a new home. There was this house I wanted but it was from a client, a few blocks from my mom’s. I was going to sell but, fortunately for me, no buyers came. It was a modern, two-story house. My client, the owner, wanted to move to another city. So I asked her if I could buy it in installments and she agreed. I immediately told my husband about it and he fell in love with it too. Six months passed and we started the renovation. “You want me to take this upstairs?” a man carrying a box full of books was waiting by the door. “Jerry! Yes, please.” Thank God for someone like Jerry in this neighborhood. I haven’t got a chance to get to know anyone. The place was so quiet, you barely saw people coming out of their homes. Jerry was kind enough to greet us when we arrived. He lived next door with his wife and son. They were a friendly bunch. “I missed this, starting over. We’ve been here for five years now. Unfortunately, we won’t be here long. Had to pay up loans and find a cheaper place.” he told us that day. His two-year-old was pulling her mom’s skirt trying to hide from us. Linda was a beautiful woman and was all smiles when we met. They were our go-to people in this place. Christian was painting the master’s bedroom walls upstairs. As an architect, he gets to do anything he likes around the house, and as his wife and his biggest fan, I would gladly let him do so. He designed some of the best condominiums in the city. Redwood Place was one of his “works of art”, as he calls it. The owner was a big fan of The Shining and he wanted the Overlook Hotel to come into life. It is exactly what he did and he even exceeded expectations. He transformed the building into a booming Hollywood classic stars party hub. "Stepping on Redwood is like time traveling to the 1920s." He would proudly say. He knows I like roses, so he painted a huge yellow rose on the wall and placed an elegant yet comfy brown leather chair on a white feathered carpet. He added the ottoman with Egyptian hieroglyph carvings for the final touch. “That will be your tiny little corner, babe.” I was staring at the wall and wondered where I had seen it. That yellow rose. I ran to my things and looked for my notebook and scanned through the pages. There it was, “Yellow roses”. Christian ran after me and asked, “Are you all right?” I looked at him in disbelief and I hugged him. I didn’t realize I was crying. Weeks passed and our house transformed into a home. It was a rustic and vintage-style home. My favorite spot will always be the yellow rose corner where I can read my books. “Babe, do you remember you said you wanted a baby girl?” I teased. We were in the living room drinking tea while the vinyl was playing. Jazz songs filled the air. “Yes?” Christian excitedly asked. “Well, I want a baby boy. Wanna bet?” He was staring at me, confused. “Yes, dummy, I’m pregnant.” That was one of the happiest days of our lives.
