Jasmine woke up to an unfamiliar ceiling, her mind foggy from the previous night's events. As she sat up, memories came flooding back – the party, Liam's proposal, and Marcus's sudden intervention. She remembers the look of shock on the faces of Liam and Jascinta, and a smile played across her face. She could do anything to see that look on their face again.
She wondered when she had fallen asleep, and Marcus had left the room. The door was slightly ajar, and she heard voices from the living room. Curiosity got the better of her, and she left the room. As she approached the living room, she recognized Liam's loud and harsh voice. Marcus's tone was calm and soothing, but Liam's words were laced with venom. She wondered when Liam came around and if Jascinta came with him.
"...I don't care what it takes, I'm not leaving without Jasmine!" Liam exclaimed.
Marcus's voice remained steady.
"Liam, please calm down. Let's talk about this rationally."
Liam's laughter was mocking.
"Rationally? You're the one who's being irrational, Marcus. You're hiding things from Jasmine that could put her in danger."
Marcus's tone remained even, but Jasmine detected a hint of tension.
"I'll tell her everything when the time is right, Liam."
Liam's voice followed, laced with malice. "Oh, I'm sure you will. Just like you told her about Priscilla?"
The room fell silent, and Jasmine felt a chill run down her spine. Who was Priscilla?
Marcus's voice was low and menacing. "Don't ever accuse me of that again, Liam."
Jasmine's heart was racing. What was going on?
Marcus's voice cut through the tension.
"I'll give you a chance to talk to Jasmine, Liam. But if she decides to stay with me, you'll respect her decision and leave us alone."
Liam's voice was hesitant, but he agreed. Marcus called for a guard to bring Jasmine, and she stepped out of her hiding spot.
As she entered the living room, Marcus explained the situation, his eyes locked on hers.
"I'll leave you two to discuss. Jasmine, you need to make a decision."
Liam's eyes pleaded with her, but Jasmine's mind was racing. As much as she wanted to know the truth, she was scared of hearing something that she could not bear.
What secrets was Marcus hiding?
As soon as Marcus left the room, Liam pounced.
"Jasmine, why did you leave with him? Do you know what he's involved in?"
Jasmine's eyes narrowed.
"What are you talking about, Liam?"
"Marcus is part of a mafia group, Jasmine. He's involved in illegal activities, and he's responsible for...for Priscilla's death."
Jasmine felt like she'd been punched in the gut. Priscilla? The name echoed in her mind.
"Who is Priscilla?" She asked, wondering why the name kept coming up.
There was silence as Liam contemplated if he had not spoken too much.
"I asked, who is Priscilla? " Jasmine asked again, wondering if she was an ex-girlfriend of Marcus.
"Priscilla was my younger sister, and she was killed because of Marcus." Liam finally replied with sadness in his voice.
Without hesitation, Jasmine turned and walked out of the room, determined to confront Marcus. She didn't want to believe all she had just heard. She remembered asking Liam about Marcus in her previous life, and he had told her he was handling some of his father's business overseas. But now she was hearing something different and dangerous. She reasoned that such tight security in his residence was a testament to all Liam had told her.
"Marcus!" she called out, her voice firm and loud .
Marcus appeared, his eyes questioning.
"Is it true?" Jasmine demanded. "Are you part of a mafia group? Did you kill Priscilla?"
Marcus's expression was unreadable, but his voice was firm. "Yes, I am indeed a leader of a mafia group, but I didn't kill my sister."
Jasmine felt like her world was crumbling. She thought she'd escaped Liam's deceit but now faced an even darker reality. She blamed herself for not looking outside the Lancaster family.
"What's going on, Marcus?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Marcus's eyes locked on hers. "I'm not going to explain anything, Jasmine. You're free to leave with Liam if you want." He replied, this time avoiding her gaze.
Jasmine's heart was torn. Should she stay with a mafia leader or return to a man who had cheated and killed her? Being with a mafia can get her killed in no time. Somehow, amidst the confusion in her head, Jasmine still felt she would be safe with Marcus. He had this dangerous aura, but she felt better around him simultaneously.
She looked across at Liam, who had a pleading look. She felt he was trying to be manipulative. Instead of discovering why she left him, he was already trying to discredit Marcus.
"Come with me, Jasmine; your sister Jacinta is waiting for you outside, " Liam pleaded, hoping that mentioning Jascinta would make Jasmine quickly follow him. But that's when he made a mistake, and Jasmine became angry when she heard her name.
She finally made her decision, her voice firm. "I'm not going back with Liam."
Marcus's expression didn't change, but Jasmine detected a hint of surprise. She would stick to the devil she doesn't know, which is against the popular quote that the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know.
"I'll give you another chance to explain yourself, Marcus," Jasmine said, her eyes locked on his. "But if I don't like what I hear, I'll leave you too."
Marcus nodded, a small smile playing on his lips.
"I'm willing to take that risk."
"You can leave Liam; she doesn't want to go back with you. This should be the last time you come to my place to raise your voice at me. You are lucky you are my brother," Marcus instructed Liam with a trace of excitement in his voice.
Liam bowed his head in shame as he walked out of the house While Jasmine turned to walk back to her room, she felt a sense of fear and anxiety. What had she just gotten herself into?
