“Because,” she answered with a condescending snicker as if I were an i***t. “No one can understand me.”
Instead of pointing out the obvious, I nodded as if I got her pain. But then I said, “But I’m different than most humans. I can typically understand all animals. It’s my magical power.”
“Except I’m cursed to be misunderstood for all my days,” the oblivious bird insisted.
“Man, that must suck,” I told her, sighing sympathetically. “I’m cursed too, so I feel your pain.”
Hollendria scoffed. “You mean that love mark on your face. That’s a pathetic curse. More people benefit from it than are doomed because of it.”
I touched my tattoo with a frown because no one had ever told me the love mark was a curse before. But I guess it could totally feel like one if you discovered your true love,
