Intro :When I opened my eyes
I woke to the sound of a whisper saying “ I remember that I am ...”
For a moment, I didn’t know My own name. The ceiling above me felt unfamiliar, the sheets too cold, the air too still. Then my eyes adjusted — and I saw him.
A man stood at the foot of my bed, silent, unmoving, watching me as if he’d been there for hours. His expression didn’t change when I gasped. He didn’t step back.
Then he said with a relief “ You awake darling?”
He smiled softly, his voice low and gentle as he whispered, “You’re safe now. Everything is fine.” His hand brushed over my hair with a tenderness that should have comforted me, yet something inside me recoiled. I flinched away, pushing his hand aside without understanding why his touch felt so wrong—so unfamiliar, almost repulsive.
My throat refused to form words. A storm of questions churned inside my mind, each one louder than the last. Who is he? Who am I? What happened to me? Where am I? I stared at him, desperate for answers, clinging to the hope that he would explain everything.
At last, he exhaled shakily. “I know you must be confused,” he said, forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “The doctor said you’ve lost your memory… and that it might take time to recover.” His voice cracked, and he looked away as if trying to swallow his grief. When he looked back, his eyes glistened. “I’m your husband… and you’re my wife. We’ve been married for two years. We don’t have children.”
His words felt like they belonged to someone else’s life, not mine. Nothing about him sparked recognition. Nothing felt real. But at least now I knew who he claimed to be. His smile—warm, hopeful—should have eased me, yet it only deepened the hollow ache inside my chest.
I tried to sit up, but pain shot through my body like fire. My limbs trembled, my chest tightened, and a crushing sense of ruin washed over me. Tears spilled down my cheeks without warning, born from a grief I couldn’t name. The room tilted, shadows closing in at the edges of my vision. The last thing I saw was his face—wide‑eyed, worried—before everything dissolved into darkness.
