Trapped Within Walls

Thinking about his next step Xie Feng follows the raincoat man on the gray pavement with the occasional pothole.
He had decided before taking any actions should understand the current situation here. It’s the first time he met survivors after moving out from the sunrise building.
‘Maybe they knew something about the current world state and he could get a chance to know some information.’
After passing from a big concrete pillar an opened area went into view.
Xie Feng saw vehicles parked at their lots but what attracted his attention particularly was the group of people in the middle.
The group consisted of was both males and females who were sitting or sleeping on blankets spread onto the gray concrete floor. Their faces filled with gloom, scars, pain. The common thing was they all looked exhausted. Looking at their attire most of them were wearing office clothing as others were in casual ones.
Some of them looked at them but soon turned their head. Xie Feng sensed few eyes on him as he met their vision he was shocked.
What surprised him was that he knew some of them. They were the ones who were present with old wang on the second floor. Due to the thunderstorm whether he couldn’t saw their appearance clearly but some of them he knew as he welcomed them before entering the sunrise building.
What happened? How come they were here?
Xie Feng had questions to asked but he decides not to talk about unnecessary things. He had thought those rich people had someone to save them and they should be somewhere else by now living or under the protection of police and government.
Now seeing some of there his heart went cold a little. It seems like the situation was worsening day by day and the government was struggling to even help important people.
Xie Feng followed the trio to the security guard room built at the corner near the blocked entrance.
From there he could finally saw the goal he went for, the canteen with the blue door stays closed at the side. There were three people sat in the front on chairs. Xie Feng noticed they were playing cards. He picked his ears to hear some useful information but found all the talk useless.
There one called brother Ji to took him to the security office and gave a knock on the door.
A heavy tired voice sounded from inside asking them to come in.
“it’s you!”
The second they entered an exclamation remark came.
Following the voice, he saw a muscular man sat on a chair. He looked around someone in his mid-30s with an unkempt beard on his jaw.
“Do you know me?” Xie Feng asked unsurely if he had seen this man before.
Not only him even brother Ji, Huo Jiang, Dong Lin all were surprised and confused about how big brother Guo knew him.
“Hehe, that day I was also present when you helped us from leaving the building area. I didn’t think I will saw you again.” That man chuckled a little and said slowly.
“Ohh at that time I had been trying to save my friend. I didn’t notice you. ” Xie Feng acknowledges as he clearly didn’t know him.
“it’s fine. We didn’t expect to leave that placed alive after the weather started worsening anyway, how’s your friend?”
“He was dead from a fell from the crane,” he replied without any emotion. In his heart, he blamed these selfish people who left old wang behind even if they could easily help him at that time.
“That’s unfortunate,” not sensing the tone of his voice brother Guo said.
“Oh, I had yet to know your name. ” Brother Guo said with a slapped on this thigh.
“You can call me Xie Feng, and how should I address you?”
“Haha Xie Feng, you don’t need to have been polite with me after all you had to save my Guo Tong life. You can call me by my name or brother Guo. ” Guo tong said with a heartily laugh.
“Okay, brother Guo did you knew what’s happening in this world? or if authorities were going to took any action?” Xie Feng asked. He didn’t reject his politeness and directly called him as brother as it was just a remark.
He really wanted to know if any official information had been released. He was alone before and didn’t have relations with authority. The people invited to the sunrise building ceremony were influential, so they might have someone to contact in this period of time.
“When we were trapped inside the building, we had already tried to contact authorities and relatives but there was no response. Till now there was none. ” Guo Tong sighed.
“And what happened after you were all escaped the area,” Xie Feng asked expectingly he knew there was a bigwig presented at the ceremony and at least someone must have successfully created contact with the helping the team. “Was there really no one come to help.”
“Sigh” Another fatigued sigh left Guo tong’s mouth.
Guo Tong told him about what happened after they left the building area.
It turned out that no place was safe even after running into crowded and opened areas. It was an even worse decision to went to crowded places as most of the people had turned into that blue-skinned undead.
The moment they entered the main road area, everywhere was chaos, accident, deaths, shrieks, and helping called went from every corner.
They were too attacked by all sides and the weather making it extremely difficult to ran and saw the surroundings. There was no time to thought and the situation was required to execute actions fast. Their group was separated in the chaos.
He was able to save some of them from the horde but others were too injured or scared to run successfully.
By escaping they found this spot by chance and since then they were hiding here.
Xie Feng listened to his story quietly.
He found it hard to believe the world was truly ending and so many people had already been dead but the facts were at his front.
“So that’s how you all was gathered here. ” Xie Feng nodded after the story ends. During the chaos, the most important must-have separated. And now there was no clue regarding them. It wasn’t even a way to confirm if they were dead or alive amidst thousands of corpses on the street.
After being silent for a while he asked.
“What was your plan now?”
“There was no plan. We were just struggling to survive,” Guo Tong shook his head filled with bitterness smile. “We can’t go outside to search for food and other necessity.”
“We had thought of fighting our way to the supermarket nearby but failed.” Brother Ji said in a low voice.
Xie Feng saw the fear on his face. By side, Huo Jiang and Dong Lin shivered when Brother Ji talked about going for searching for food.
“You don’t want to left this placed?” Xie Feng asked trying to read their thoughts.
“Leaving this placed, haha,” suddenly Guo tong burst into laughter, after few seconds he calms down and said “Of course we wanted to get out from here to found if there was a place where we could seek shelter. But for what, judging from the situation the scale of this infection or whatever the hell it was. We can’t escape. ”
At the end of his sentence, Xie Feng could sense the horror in it.
Xie Feng stayed silent on his comment.
If this was before he might also choose to stay in the same placed and waited for government forces to get helped but now he knew he was different and could survive with his power.
Thinking of all this he found himself a little exhausted.
He was hungry.
“Is there food to ate?” he asked looking straight at Guo Tong.
if he rejects, Xie Feng didn’t mind got some on his own.
Hopefully, that didn’t happen. Guo tong called for someone and a male entered the office. Xie Feng recognized him as one of the trio playing cards in front of the canteen.
Guo Tong told him to get something to eat. After a minute he returned back with some packets in his handed.
Thanking the man Xie Feng accepted the packet of fruit juice and a sweet cherry bun under the watchful eyes of bystanders.
“Honestly there was not much food left to ate,” Guo Tong said while watching Xie Feng tearing bun packaging. “We were 18 people here and food in the canteen didn’t fulfill the need, just enough for survival. ”
“I understand,” Xie Feng said taking a sip of fruit juice. “I had to eat from packed food from the ceremony catering table.”
“You were staying in that damn place the whole time. ” Guo Tong asked stupified. He didn’t understand why would someone keep living in that horror-filled place.
“Damn place. Hehe,” hearing his tone Xie Feng’s lips curled up into a smirk, “wasn’t every placed now damned. ”
He finished his meal in less than a minute before continuing.
“If it wasn’t causing the food and water had been finished I didn’t risk coming all the way here. ” Xie Feng told straight-up lie without blinking. He had beforehand decided to never tell about the strange black threads he could absorb in his body. To hide all this he told them he had never left that place and went alone to fight a horde but end up running for life.
“What-!? you traveled all the way. How come you were still in one piece. ” Huo Jiang exclaimed loudly.
Guo Tong and others survival had been living here for days with them and had told about from where they came. So, they knew what situation they were in before ending up here.
Everyone present was shocked thinking of themselves in his position. Living alone in a building where zombies could attack anytime.
“You was joking right?” Brother Ji asked with his wide eyes opened.
Xie Feng shook his head with a grinned lines on his face.
He had experienced the horror of death so close. Life had given him second chance. He would fight his way for survival.
But the question was for how long. He was only one and there were thousands of them there possible millions.
