"Oohhh~~ Look who we have here~~"
A boy with golden-brown hair that matched his eye color enthusiastically exclaimed as he watched his friends descend the stairs with tired, gloomy expressions.
"What's with the long faces? I know today's the day you've been dreading, but come on! It's not every day you turn eighteen and officially become an adult!" a girl with sleek black hair added, raising an eyebrow.
"C'mon, let's not be gloomy, okay? It's your big day-we should all be celebrating!" the sunny-haired boy beamed, radiating such a bright aura that it finally managed to stir the pale-haired boy from his thoughts.
"I honestly wish this day didn't exist..." the boy with short, wavy, milky blue-white hair muttered, taking a seat beside the energetic boy who immediately pouted at the gloomy comment.
"Oh, come on, it's not going to be that bad! It's not like the government will find your perfect match the moment you finish the test," the golden-haired boy said reassuringly.
"Aaron's right, Luci. It took forever for the government to find most people's matches. There are literally billions of people out there," the black-haired girl added while munching on her food.
"I know, Vivi... but do I really need a perfect match?" Lucian asked, letting out a deep sigh.
"Yes!!" both Aaron and Vivi replied in unison.
"Luci, I know you despise the whole perfect match system. But you'll understand one day. Even if Aaron and I haven't found ours yet, we will...soon. And if that day comes, we can't just leave you all alone. And we won't always be together like this forever. So yes... this is important. Whether we like it or not, we're not just teenagers anymore," Vivi said seriously, looking him in the eye.
A thick silence wrapped around them. Eventually, Lucian sighed again.
"Fine... I'll go later," he muttered while nibbling on his breakfast.
>
"I'm going out!" Lucian called as he slipped on his shoes and stepped outside.
Hi. I'm Lucian Ambrose Everhart. You can call me Luci, Luke, or even Rose though I prefer Luke. Rose sounds a little too... feminine for me.
I just turned eighteen today. I live with my non-blood-related family. We've been together for almost eight years now.
Let me introduce them to you:
First, there's Charles Aaron Cameron. Aaron's basically a golden retriever-both literally and figuratively. He has golden-brown hair and eyes, doe-like and bright. Button nose. Heart-shaped lips. A sun-kissed tan. Energetic and adorable. He just radiates joy.
Then there's Adaline Vivienne Hudson. Vivi's a black cat. Feisty, sharp-tongued, but incredibly caring when it counts. She has short, straight black hair, golden eyes, and natural blush on her pale skin. She's the unofficial boss of the house.
And me? I guess I'm just... average. Short, wavy pale white hair. Heterochromatic eyes one gold, one red. Pale skin. Rosy cheeks. Petite, curvy frame I try to hide under oversized clothes. I don't hate how I look, I just feel... exposed sometimes.
Anyway. Today's the big day-the day I take the government's compatibility test to find my fated mate.
The testing center loomed ahead, modern and sterile. My stomach twisted the closer I got. No turning back now.
The waiting room was packed with other teens. I sat stiffly until a robotic voice called my name.
"Lucian Ambrose Everhart."
I flinched and stood.
Inside, a woman greeted me. "Just sit here. This won't hurt, just a bit uncomfortable."
I nodded, sitting while she placed strange sticky pads on my temples. The machine hummed to life.
"Will this tell me who my mate is?" I asked, still staring at the ceiling.
"Not immediately," she replied. "It usually takes about a year to find someone's match. It's rare to get instant results. Why? Are you excited?"
"No."
She blinked. "Oh..."
The machine beeped. She removed the pads and turned to the screen. She froze.
"Is something wrong?" I asked, anxiety rising.
Her eyes widened. "Congratulations! The machine found your mate!"
I blinked. "Pardon?!"
She laughed. "Even more incredible-you have three mates!"
Three. Mates.
She handed me three folders, each one heavier than it looked. "Here's their information. You're all set. Again, congratulations!"
The door shut behind me before I could even process what just happened.
I stared at the folders in my hands.
Why me...?

"Ugh! I'm so pent up! When am I going to meet my mate?!" a tall, broad-shouldered man groaned, arms sprawled across the sofa.
"Patience, Antoine. I have a good feeling about today," said the man in the main chair with a knowing smirk.
Suddenly, the doors burst open.
"P-Pardon, Lord! A final test result just arrived-from Korea!" a butler panted.
Antoine leapt to his feet. "Let me see it!"
He grabbed the folder. Only one. He frowned, glancing at his older brother.
"Let's see who the lucky one is," the older man said calmly.
Antoine opened the folder.
Inside was the image of the most beautiful boy he had ever seen. Wavy short pale white hair. Heterochromatic eyes gold and red. Pale skin, pink cheeks, full lips. Ethereal.
Antoine stared, stunned.
"Looks like the person is stunning enough to silence you," brother teased.
"He's beautiful," Antoine whispered.
As he flipped through the file, learning Lucian's name, age, and location, he reached the final page and froze.
"What is it?" the older brother asked, standing up.
"It's... it's us. All three of us. We're his mates."
The man blinked. Then grinned. "Well. This just got interesting."
He took the file, skimming it. "He found us the moment he took the test? And all three of us? That's extremely rare."
He turned to Antoine. "Let's inform our dear younger brother, shall we?"
Antoine nodded eagerly and dialed.
The line connected. "Leo!! Go home! We found our mate!!"
There was silence.
Then the line went dead.
Antoine smirked. "He'll be here in an hour."
The older man laughed. "Good. It's time we claim what's ours."
